Merle Haggard Cancels More Shows Due to Health
. The news comes following Haggard's two recent hospitalizations for pneumonia. He was first hospitalized in December and then again at the beginning of this month (March 2016). Following being admitted for his first hospitalization, Haggard told Sirius XM, "A couple weeks ago I came in the hospital here, and I guess I was nearly dead." He then explained, "They couldn't tell whether the [lung] cancer had returned or whether I just had pneumonia. They had to wait until they got the pneumonia under control before we could tell. So it's been kind of a tough couple of weeks, but I've got so many people to thank." Haggard camp released this statement from the country music legend about the canceled shows next month: "I want to thank my fans for their prayers and well wishes. I hope to be back on the road in May, but I'm taking it one day at a time."
