Singled Out: Taylor Carano's Put Down Your Gun (Ft. Johnny G)
.
Taylor Carano tells us the story behind the song "Put Down Your Gun(Ft. Johnny G)" which is a track from his third album "Friends of Friends". Here is the story: "Put Down Your Gun(Ft. Johnny G)" was recorded on August 2, 2014 on the outskirts of Akron,OH at Camp Carano. The song features myself on acoustic guitar and vocals, as well as backing vocals and scatting performed by my friend Johnny G. Two microphones is all it took to bring this song to life, one for my acoustic guitar and the other for my vocals. I can't imagine a better acoustic guitar sound! After running through the song a few times with Johnny, I recorded my part of the song (guitar&vocals) in two takes. Now it was time for Johnny G aka John Gouskos to record his backing vocals, which he did wonderfully. Ever since I had written the song I imagined Johnny's deeper voice as a nice compliment to mine and was very, very happy I could get him in the studio. Two microphones, two voices and one acoustic guitar later we had our song. I have heard some people refer to "Put Down Your Gun" as a political song and I'd have to disagree. To me, this song is more of a commentary on the world surrounding us. It is meant to be a reflection of the violence, murder, harassment, discrimination and political arms race that not only surrounds America, but the world. Guns are a hot subject, some people think that their guns are going to be taken away and some people believe they don't have enough guns. I don't want to take your gun away, I just want you to make smarter decisions with it. A gun is only an object, which can be used to kill, but only if the user decides to pull that trigger. Looking in the mirror you often find a different perspective on yourself and thats what I tried to do with this song, give you new perspective on something you thought was so clear. If I can make someone think twice about pulling a trigger, then I accomplished my goal. "Put down your gun and fight me like a man" Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album here.
