Van Halen fans have ridden a roller coaster for the past year. They got their hopes up after hearing rumors of the return of original frontman David Lee Roth to the group. While Roth did return to the Van Halen fold briefly and worked with the band on some new material the reunion ultimately failed. We now know the reason; it was the lawyers.
Speculation that it was personality difference between Roth and his former bandmates that caused the reunion to fail has run rampant in the press and among fans. The Van Halen camp keeping silent on the matter didnt help quell the rumor mill. Now Eddie Van Halen is setting the record straight with a candid interview in next months Maximum Golf magazine.
According to Launch.com the golf magazine features an interview with the legendary guitarist and avid golfer, Eddie Van Halen, where he discussed the failed reunion attempt and the fact that he and Roth were getting along fine, it was the lawyers who killed the reunion.
"The last time I spoke to or saw Dave was back in September of last year. I played him a few new tunes, we bullsh-tted a bit, had some laughs," says Van Halen in Maximum Golf magazine. "Everything looked pretty positive about gettin' together. But before you know it, attorneys are involved. These cats had me so beat down and confused, it made the cancer seem like a tiny zit on my ass. Everything seemed to fall apart once these guys got involved. I mean...we used to do it on a handshake. At this point, I don't have a clue what is going on."
So there still maybe hope for a reunion if the lawyers can get their act together.
