Not all indie rock went nu-metal in the post grunge days. Some held on to their punk new-wave roots and Liars Academy has tapped into that motherload to deliver an EP with music that should appeal to fans of classic alt-rock, Pete Yorn and the Lemonheads as well as kids into the whole punk-punk scam. Scam? Not these guys, they don't pretend to be punk, just a good melodic indie rock band.
The big problem is the songs pretty run
into each other with out distinguishing themselves from each other. It's
good stuff with fuzz guitars, powerful vocals and a fun rhythm section
but if this were a full length CD it would wear thin about the time track
five rolls along. I haven't heard their full length CD, "No News Is Good
News," so I can't draw any comparisons. The ingredients are here for a
killer band; they just need to focus on the song writing a bit stronger
for the next full length. Nevertheless, this is a decent album from a band
that shows a lot of potential. Plus it is far better than most of
the most pop-punk and emo CD's that are flooding the market.
