Brad Paisley And Carrie Underwood Win Copyright Lawsuit

(Radio.com) The long court battle over Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood's 2011 single "Remind Me" finally reached a conclusion this past Thursday (August 25), reports Radio.com.

U.S. District Judge Aleta Trauger ruled that there were "broader dissimilarities in context, structure, mood, melody, and harmony" between the two songs in question (via The Hollywood Reporter), and sided with Paisley, Underwood and the songwriters responsible for their hit.

Amy Bowen (who performs under the name Lizza Connor) initially filed a copyright infringement claim in 2013 concerning her song "Remind Me." Bowen stated how she'd written that song during a 14-week songwriting workshop in 2008.

She performed it before a panel of industry professionals, which included songwriters Kelley Lovelace and Chris DuBois. They would go on to co-write the 2011 single "Remind Me" with Paisley. Read more here.

Robin Thicke, Pharrell, T.I. Appeal Copyright Infringement Verdict

(Radio.com) Pharrell Williams, Robin Thicke and T.I. (real name Clifford Harris Jr.) are appealing the multi-million dollar court verdict that their hit track "Blurred Lines" plagiarized Marvin Gaye's "Got to Give it Up," reports The Hollywood Reporter.

The three performers are seeking to overturn the ruling that awarded $5.3 million in damages to Marvin Gaye's family as well as 50-percent of royalties from "Blurred Lines," according to a brief filed in the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.

A Los Angeles jury had ruled that "Blurred Lines" ripped off Marvin Gaye's 1977 hit,"Got To Give It Up," a verdict that attorneys for Williams, Thicke and T.I. claim is erroneous and dangerous for the music industry.

"This outcome created international press coverage and widespread expressions of concern by members of the music community that, if left to stand, the 'Blurred Lines' verdict would chill musical creativity and inhibit the process by which later artists draw inspiration from earlier artists to create new popular music," the legal brief states. Glass Animals Score Instant Top 10 Hit With 'How To Be A Human'

(BT) Glass Animals' sophomore album 'How To Be A Human Being' is already top ten in 10 countries on the iTunes album chart including the U.S., U.K., and Australia following its release on Friday (August 26th).

Lead singer and producer Dave Bayley's lyrical ideas came from live recordings of people saved on his phone, as though he'd been operating as some sort of roaming journalist all this time. "I try to sneakily record people, and I have hours and hours of these amazing rants from taxi drivers, strange people we met outside of shows, people at parties. People say the strangest shit when they don't think they're ever gonna see you again." The voice notes sparked ideas for characters that Dave developed, writing an album like a TV screenwriter might approach a script. "I'd obsess over what they ate, where they lived, what their furniture looked like, what they wore," he laughs.

The band will be celebrating the release of How To Be A Human Being next week in the U.S. with an outdoor concert on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on August 30th and a very special performance at a Tumblr IRL event on August 31st which will bring the album and the characters to life via an immersive collaboration between Glass Animals, multimedia designer Ashten "Whoopi" Winger and Ukrainian Pixel artist Mykola "Myk" Dosenko.

Glass Animals' debut 'Zaba', released on Harvest Records, has sold nearly half a million copies and amassed nearly 200 million Spotify streams.

The band will kick off their North American tour this September in Raleigh, NC, and end at The Greek in Los Angeles on October 16th. See the dates here.

Milemarker Streaming New Album 'Overseas' In Full Online

(UTG) Reunited synth punk band Milemarker are streaming their new album "Overseas" online. The album is their first in 11 years, and the band is currently in the midst of their first U.S. tour since 2008.

Coming a decade after their last full-length release, Overseas is notable for being such a focused and cohesive effort. Fans of early 2000s releases like Frigid Forms Sell and Anaesthetic will find a clear sonic continuity in the angular, aggressive guitars, tense melodic vocals and soaring keyboard hooks. New members Lena Kilkka (synth, vocals) and Ezra Cale (drums) deepen the krautrock and electronic tendencies, pushing the sound in unexpected directions.

Recorded in Berlin and Hamburg, Germany (where the band is now located), with Electrical Audio studios' Greg Norman (Russian Circles, Godspeed You Black Emperor!) behind the board, Overseas combines the confidence and swagger of a band that has grown up playing music together with the fresh ears and attitude of a brand new band. Aaliyah's 'One in a Million' Album Turns 20

(Radio.com) Aaliyah's second album, 1996's One in a Million, turns 20 on Saturday (August 27). It was a game changing album in her too-short career, as well as in the careers of producers Timbaland and Missy Elliott. Here, Radio.com discusses the album with some of the DJs from Atlanta hip-hop powerhouse V103: Greg Street, Ryan Cameron, Ramona DeBreaux and Big Tigger.

It was a pivotal moment for Aaliyah. 1994's Age Ain't Nothing But a Number put her on the map, but it was well-known that the album was written and produced by her mentor, and lover, R. Kelly. But by 1996, she'd cut ties with Kelly and her label Jive Records. She now had to prove that she was a viable star, on a new record label, without her former mentor.

V103's Ryan Cameron says that the music world was watching Aaliyah closely: "When she walked away from that [R. Kelly and Jive], the music had to stand for itself. You know like, 'Now let's see if it's real.'"

Big Tigger agrees: "She was already a rising star and had a lot of buzz; people wanted to see what her future would hold, minus his input."

Ramona DeBreaux notes that, even without the R. Kelly drama, her debut was a tough one to follow. "She was really talented and after the first album was so good, people were wondering how she would top it." Read more here.

Nathan Sykes On His Duet With Ex-Girlfriend Ariana Grande

(Radio.com) "Let bygones be bygones" seems to be Nathan Sykes's credo when it comes to his exes. The Wanted singer's long-anticipated solo debut Unfinished Business will feature the song "Over and Over Again," a duet with his ex, Ariana Grande.

He tells Radio.com that the he didn't call on Grande because it made for a good narrative. "I never write songs with the intention of getting a story out there. I wouldn't necessarily get an artist on the song that I didn't think would bring anything to the record, just to get a bit more press or get a bit more radio play. I think that's quite shallow, as an artist. We've obviously sung together before, on 'Almost is Never Enough' off her debut album."

The fact that she's a great singer and someone who he is comfortable around made her the perfect choice for the song. "For me, it was like, 'Who would sound incredible on this?' The one name that stuck out to me was Ariana. She's an incredible vocalist, she's extremely talented, and I could trust her with doing the song. When you're doing a duet with someone, with a song so personal, it would have been weird inviting someone on the song who I'd never met before. 'Hi, nice to meet you! And here's a really personal song for you to sing!' So I think having known her as well, makes it a bit easier. Also, I've got great trust in her as an artist and a vocalist to do a great vocal, and that's exactly what she did."

But was it awkward in the studio? "I think whatever's in the past is in the past, I think it shows real maturity for both of us to put music first, and do what's best for the music."

"I'm one of those people who is always friends with someone before I date them, because I'm terrible at flirting. And if it doesn't work out, you can go back to being friends. And you've still got a great friend. I'm not the type of person who would do anything to someone I'm in a relationship with, that's going to make them hate me. And I wouldn't date someone who is capable of doing something like that. That's why, I think, it's always worked out very well in terms of friendship." Read more here.

DJ Shadow Releases 'Nobody Speak' Video

(Radio.com) It's no secret that Run The Jewels' Killer Mike is highly interested in politics. But to hear and see his razor-sharp lyrics from DJ Shadow's latest single "Nobody Speak" come to life on video--well--it's a whole 'nother level.

The new video directed by Sam Pilling features stereotypically docile politicians acting out the lyrics to the song in a way that appears all too real. A verbal altercation quickly escalates into an all-out brawl. Papers fly, pigs squeal The actors were clearly invested in this production.

The single is from DJ Shadow's latest effort, The Mountain Will Fall, which debuted in June at No. 1 on Billboard's U.S. Dance/Electronic chart. Watch the explicit video here.
