80s Charlotte
punkbands reports: Good Charlotte are used to churning out radio-friendly punk-pop, but for their upcoming fourth album, the guys are looking to the past for inspiration. "Right now, I'm really into '80s music like Cyndi Lauper and Tiffany, and I think that's kind of the vibe that came across a little bit with [Hilary Duff's] new stuff," Benji Madden told MTV News at a Blender magazine-sponsored party for X Games 11 at the Key Club, where he played DJ for a portion of the evening.

Good Charlotte fans can expect a bit of that retro beat on their next LP, which they plan to begin recording in December. "We touched on it a bit on our last album [The Chronicles of Life and Death], and there will definitely be a few songs on the new record that will go in that direction," Benji said. Newsted Speaks
End Records reports: In a recent interview with Billboard.com, Jason Newsted talked about the upcoming Voivod records via The End Records:

"It's the most complete demos I've ever been involved in," he says. "[Voivod singer] Snake has already chosen his effects -- exact timing of milliseconds for delay. We've had a long time to develop the demos, so there's about 23 or 25 songs that are absolutely listenable right now."

Like Metallica, Newsted was a huge fan of Voivod before he was invited to join and he remains a great admirer to this day. "They created something a long, long time ago that may have been emulated many, many times since -- but nobody can do it like the original," he offers.

Samhain DVD
press release reports: Music Video Distributors and Glenn Danzig are pleased to announce the home viewing release of Samhain : Live 1984 - Stardust Ballroom for US distribution on DVD (Sept 13).

SAMHAIN was a transition for Glenn Danzig between the fierce cult punk phenom of the Misfits and the dark metal blues swagger of his self-titled current band Danzig. In the Fall of '83, Glenn Danzig grabbed Eerie Von (Rosemary's Babys), Steve Zing and Damien (Mourning Noise) for his new project SAMHAIN, dubbed by some as Goth/Metal/Punk. This DVD captures the intense beginning of SAMHAIN, "Live" on the heels of their debut album, Initium, at the now infamous Stardust Ballroom to a sell out crowd.
