Opiate For the Masses Week: Day 1 "21st Century Time Bomb"
antiMusic reports: This week industrial metal heavyweights Opiate for the Masses' new album 'Manifesto' hits stores at long last via Century Media records. To celebrate the release we asked frontman Ron Underwood to pick his favorite tracks from the effort and tell us a little bit about each one. Here is Ron with today's song:

21st Century Time Bomb- The idea for this song was actually taken from a magazine review that said my band was a "21st Century Time Bomb". We just used that statement as a template for the song itself. Choosing the tempo was easy; a ticking time bomb runs (obviously) at sixty beats per minute. We doubled that (120 BPM), and got a great marching/dance tempo that made it easy to mix marching samples and ticking clocks together under a lot of the back beat. The intro sounds a lot like war banter just from the percussion and the chord choices.

Since we wanted to capture the impending sound of World War III, the lyrics are sort of set as the voice of the people lit to pop in the face of oppression; the sound of the truest democratic vote- a revolution. It's the perfect opener for an album called "Manifesto".

Buckcherry Leak Their Own Song?
Blabbermouth reports: Last week someone emailed us a torrent link to a new Buckcherry song, but we never post such links (or even legal links because of the asshats at ASCAP). Soon after, the band issued a statement hyping the "leak" and provided a link to it. Was it an intended leak? A publicity stunt? Take your guess. Here is their statement: We're out on the road again, and just played a killer first show on Cre Fest 2008 in West Palm Beach, Florida!

It's come to our attention that one of the tracks off our new album has leaked out on the net. Honestly, we hate it when this ---- happens, because we want our FANS to have any new songs first.

Here is the link to officially find the song 'Too Drunk...'. We're gonna go try and find time over the next few days to make a down and dirty video for it. Enjoy the new song and we're looking forward to putting out the new album in a couple of months! - Grab the link here and more

Pete Wentz Had A Gay Old Time
Hecklerspray reports: If you've ever been to a wedding, or seen one on the TV, or in a film, or read about them, or just, well, know anything about them at all, you'll know that before the happy couple can be officially married the priest will say: "If anyone knows reasons why these two can't be wed, speak now or forever hold your peace."

Whenever that's said, you know if would be amusing for someone to stand up and say something - be it someone screaming: "I'm pregnant with his child!" or: "he's a wife beater!" or even the ever-popular: "he gave me some kind of incurable VD on his stag night, and he's quite possibly a vampire!"

Top pop mimer Ashlee Simpson must have been wondering where those people were at her recent wedding, though she probably didn't expect the holding-of-the-peace to be broken by her new husband. Hubby Pete Wentz has only gone and said that he used to indulge in a bit of man love, or holding-of-the-piece, as it were. - more on this story

Zeppelin Refuse To Play Games
antiMusic reports: The Wall Street Journal has an interesting article about the rise of music video games. While the article centers around the new Aerosmith "Guitar Hero," it also hints at a Van Halen game and dashes hopes of a Led Zeppelin game. Here is that part of the article:

But some bands have resisted the call of the new medium. Led Zeppelin's thundering riffs are among the most sought after by music game makers, but the group's guitarist, Jimmy Page, and his bandmates have repeatedly turned down offers from both Activision and MTV, says Peter Mensch, a partner at Q Prime Management, which manages Mr. Page, along with Metallica and other acts.

The sticking point: The band isn't comfortable with the prospect of granting outsiders access to its master tapes, a necessary step in creating the games. "It ain't about the money," Mr. Mensch says. - more on this story

McGee, who was also the boss of Creation and Poptones Records spoke to XFM saying: "I'd recommend a band not to go to any record label, I think they're all f**king rubbish.

"You're better off doing it yourself. They're living in the past, it's like owning a tram company or something." - more on this story

Drunked Warrant
Sleazeroxx reports: In a recent email to Sleaze Roxx, longtime Warrant fan Brad Kereszturi reports that Jani Lane showed up drunk for the band's live show at the Sunset Station Hotel & Casino in Henderson, Nevada on July 5.

Warrant had recently reunited with a sober Lane and had scheduled a string of live dates.

Brad states that, "not only did Jani Lane fall off the wagon, he smashed the damn thing into a brick ----ing wall and summed up his career in a shaken, drunken, word forgetting debacle that was just embarrassing.".

Highway To Hell Popular At Funerals
Telegraph reports: A song by the heavy metal band AC/DC is becoming one of the most requested funeral tunes in their home country of Australia.

Highway to Hell, with lyrics including "Going down, party time", is among a number rock classics, including Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven, that are replacing traditional hymns in Adelaide.

Funeral managers at Centennial Park, the largest cemetery and crematorium in the city, said only two hymns still rank among its top 10 most popular funeral songs: Amazing Grace and Abide With Me. - more on this story

Radiohead's Thom Yorke Goes Classical
Filter reports: Thom Yorke is exercising his creativity in more ways than one by dabbling in Classical music.

He recently remixed an original John Matthias score for Cortical Songs, a Classical album that also features contributions from Simon Tong (The Verve, Blur, Gorillaz) and John Maclean (Beta Band). Classical kin Gabriel Prokofiev calls Yorke's track "adventurous and avant garde."

New Masters of Reality CD Coming
Sleazeroxx reports: Although Chris Goss is probably best known for his production/engineering talents (having worked with UNKLE, Stone Temple Pilots and, most extensively, Kyuss and Queens Of The Stone Age), since the late '80s, he has been issuing albums as the leader of Masters Of Reality.

On the group's sixth studio release, "Pine/Cross Dover," Goss wanted to approach his songwriting from a different angle. The set is tentatively due Aug. 28 via Brownhouse/Mascot Records.

"It's really rhythmic-oriented. I called [drummer] John Leamy, and said, 'Get ready to play, because the drums are going to lead the way on this one'," Goss tells Billboard.com. "And they did. It's almost a jazzier, funkier Masters Of Reality. There's no acoustic guitars, there's not much 'Beatles' on this one. Which I'm proud of -- because I'm kinda tired of it!"

Instead, the group nods toward 'Presence'-era Led Zeppelin on "Rosie's Presence" and the Mahavishnu Orchestra on the improvised album-closing instrumental "Alfalfa."

Drunked Intruders Arrested After Breaking Into Jimi Hendrix Home
Daily Mail reports: Two intruders broke into Jimi Hendrix' former London home and got drunk on bottles of wine. The men smashed into the top floor of the four-storey apartment in Brook Street, Mayfair, before scaling the roof as police arrived, shortly before 11pm on Saturday night.

But if they thought they were going to relive a piece 1970s music history - they were in for a surprise.

Because the rooms where the rock legend lived for nine months in 1968 have since become the kitchen and toilet area for volunteers at the Handel House Museum, situated next door. - more on this story
