Beastie Boy's MCA Battling Cancer, Tour and Album Delayed
EMI reports: Beastie Boys have today (20 July) issued the following statement: 'Adam "MCA" Yauch of Beastie Boys was diagnosed last week as having a cancerous tumor in his left parotid (salivary) gland. Luckily it was caught early and is localized in one area, and as such is considered very treatable. It will however require surgery and several weeks of additional treatment. Fortunately the cancer is not in a location that will affect Yauch's vocal chords. Beastie Boys have canceled all upcoming concert appearances to allow time for Yauch's surgery and recovery. The release of the band's forthcoming album Hot Sauce Committee Part 1 will also be pushed back.

'Paraphrasing from a video statement on www.Beastieboys.com, Yauch said, "I just need to take a little time to get this in check, and then we'll release the record and play some shows. It's a pain in the neck (sorry had to say it) because I was really looking forward to playing these shows, but the doctors have made it clear that this is not the kind of thing that can be put aside to deal with later."'

A statement from EMI reads: 'Our thoughts, love and prayers are with Adam Yauch, his family and the Beastie Boys. The most important thing is to allow Adam to focus on staying healthy. We wish him all the best and a speedy recovery.' - http://www.Beastieboys.com

Shadows Fall With Lamb of God's Randy Blythe Preview King of Nothing
Adrenaline reports: Shadows Fall is giving fans the first taste of Retribution today exclusively on their official MySpace page. The first song to be made available from the album, "King of Nothing," is available NOW at Myspace. The song features a brutal guest appearance by Lamb of God vocalist Randy Blythe.

Singer Brian Fair comments: "This song opens with my favorite riff on the record. It came out of Matt's late night drunken riff bag, and the song built itself around the heavy vibe that it created. It is a four minute beat down!! The lyrics of this song are about the overwhelming self-medication of our world. There is a prescription for every mood these days, and people are turning into zombies. It's time to toughen up and face your reality, no matter how brutal it may be, otherwise you will just be reigning over a world of nothingness. The bridge features guest vocals from the one and only D. Randall Blythe aka Uncle Goddamn aka The Redneck Assassin of the mighty Lamb of God. Randy came down to the studio in VA to cook us dinner, and we put him right to work behind the mic. We layered his voice with Matt's and myself to create the three part harmony from hell!!"

Retribution streets September 15 on the band's own label, Everblack Industries, which was created in conjunction with Warner Music Group's ILG, Ferret Music, and ChannelZERO Entertainment. For more information on Everblack Industries, please visit www.everblackindustries.com. The blistering new album was produced by Zeuss (Hatebreed, Municipal Waste), with vocal production by Elvis Baskette (Incubus, Alter Bridge). - http://www.myspace.com/shadowsfall

Old School and Metal Rule 2009 Tours
Billboard reports: Despite the uncertain state of the economy, Billboard's midyear touring charts indicate a pattern of success that could well carry through the end of the year.

And, even more so than usual, the top 25 list is dominated by acts that first achieved success a quarter century ago or more, including Madonna, Tina Turner, AC/DC, Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, Elton John, Fleetwood Mac, Metallica, the Dead, Neil Young, Iron Maiden and Leonard Cohen. That said, there's still a freshness to the chart, with some names not typically associated with the box-office elite.

The time period for the midyear numbers is Dec. 6, 2008, through June 20, 2009. When tardy reporting is factored in, overall numbers stack up favorably to the same time period last year. In the period covered, global concerts grossed $1.8 billion and drew 30.6 million attendees from 8,744 shows reported. - more on this story

Bright Eyes, My Morning Jacket Side Project Offers Free Song
PR reports: Monsters of Folk (comprised of Bright Eyes' Conor Oberst and Mike Mogis, My Morning Jacket's Jim James and singer/songwriter M.Ward) have made a track from their forthcoming self-titled debut album available for FREE on their website.

http://www.monstersoffolk.com is giving away the song, titled "Say Please", to anyone who visits the site and types "please" into the request form. The highly anticipated full length album will be released in the US on Shangri-La Records on September 22nd.

Monsters of Folk began as folklore of sorts, when James, Oberst, Ward and Mogis did their first run of shows together in 2004. Like the musical revue shows that went town to town when rock 'n' roll was newly born, the tour was called "An Evening With: Bright Eyes, Jim James and M. Ward," although amongst friends and crew, it became affectionately known as the "Monsters of Folk Tour." While entertaining audiences coast to coast with gorgeous acoustic melodies and world-weary tales, the foursome vowed to make their way to a studio at some point after the tour's completion. Instead, the songsmiths went on to individually release some of rock music's most exciting and essential albums of the last five years Bright Eyes' I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning & Cassadaga; My Morning Jacket's Z & Evil Urges; M. Ward's Post War and Hold Time. Never ones to forget their promise, when downtime presented itself they convened in the studio multiple times over two years, with Mogis at the helm of their first recorded effort. The result is as stunning and storied as you would expect it to be. - http://www.monstersoffolk.com

Singled Out: Lee Memorial
antiMusic reports: Welcome to Singled Out! where we ask artists to tell us the inside story of their latest single. Today Lee Memorial main man, Karl Smith tells us about 'Long Days In Bed': We now turn it over to Karl for the story:

"Long Days in Bed" was one of those songs that kind of wrote itself. It's always an exciting thing when a song arrives in your mind fully formed and this was one of those lucky moments. Not to say all the lyrics were clear in my mind or anything like that, but the tone, the structure and the idea behind the song all fell into place very quickly. The rest of the process was more akin to dressing the song and getting it ready for a night out on the town, rather than just finishing off the words.

When I wrote it I was back studying again after a ten year break and found myself thinking about my early days in Perth, Western Australia during my early twenties. I was seeing a girl at the time and we spent our days and nights in bed, cafes, at the beach and getting drunk at local gigs. My friends, band-mates and I were all on the dole or at uni and no one had much pressure to do anything productive. The song is about those times, the connections with people and most importantly the time spent with a partner lazing about the house and just living in the moment with them.

Over the years I have spent a lot of time travelling and this gives you a great perspective from which to look back on those times and rediscover the magic in them. Because, regardless of where you go and what amazing things you might see, it is how we interact with people that carries the most weight and stays in our memories the longest.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the band - right here!
