Freedy Johnston Returns!
conqueroo reports: Rain on the City is Freedy Johnston's first album of new originals in eight years. Recorded in Nashville with producer Richard McLaurin, it's one of the best song collections of Freedy's career, featuring a diverse array of rockers, heartbreaking twang, even hints of blue-eyed soul and bossa nova. The album will be released on Bar None on January 12, 2009.

Producer McLaurin (Justin Townes Earle, Allison Moorer, Slaid Cleaves, Matthew Ryan) has framed Freedy's voice with sympathetic arrangements, like the title track "Rain on the City," whose slashing strings and keyboard washes sound like so much precipitation in an Edward Hopper cityscape. There is radio-friendly fare, such as the epic "Don't Fall in Love With a Lonely Girl." and the Buddy Holly-style rave-up "It's Gonna Come Back to You." There are also fine vocal performances accompanying the acoustic majesty of "Venus" and the country-rocker "Rio Grande," where a full-throated Freedy confidently roars over some overdriven guitar pickin'.

Where has Freedy Johnston been wandering in the years prior to making this album? Some folks lost track of him after his 1994 hit "Bad Reputation" and his last Elektra album, 2001's Right Between the Promises. He has moved around, living in NYC, Austin, Kansas, Madison and Nashville. "It takes a while to re-adjust one's priorities and get back on track after working with the big budget that the majors give you," muses our hero. "I went through issues with the IRS, had a relationship go south and a touring vehicle grind to a halt but through it all I never gave up writing and gigging whenever possible."

John Q Public May Contain Nuts
PR reports: John Q Public are an established punk rock band based in the Welsh capitol of Cardiff. Having played together for seven years under the guise of 'May Contain Nuts', the band decided that 'May Contain Nuts' had gone as far as it was ever going to, and in January of 2009 they announced their name change to 'John Q Public'.

Since that cold January morn, the band have gone from strength to strength, performing at various festivals around the UK, and sharing the stage with such great names as The King Blues, Sonic Boom 6, Sham 69, Mike Park and many others. John Q Public have received a fantastic response from audiences and promoters around the UK and have received rave reviews wherever they go.

Of course, regardless of the great response the band are receiving as John Q Public, they have not forgotten their roots as May Contain Nuts, and neither have their fans. It is for this reason that John Q Public have decided to re-release May Contain Nuts' last release, "Land Ho!" along with two bonus tracks taken from their new album to be released in the Summer of 2010. Land Ho! (Deluxe Edition) is a final goodbye to May Contain Nuts and a taste of things to come from John Q Public! - more on this story

"Things have been progressing quickly for us and it's all thanks to the crazy fans across Canada. The more we try to crush them with our music the more they eat it up, so we're going to keep up the pace and hope even more people jump on the bandwagon," says Derelict frontman Eric Burnet.

"Playing with The Last Felony and Revocation in Montreal at the end of November, and then Starring Janet Leigh and numerous others in Woodstock in December will be an amazing way to end 2009!" - more on this story
