John was in London, accepting a song-writer award from Q magazine when he went on the warpath against Madonna who was nominated for "Best Live Act" award (she lost out to Muse).
Sir Elton's temper was on display when he launched into his tirade, "Anyone who lip-synchs in public on stage when you pay 75 pounds to see them should be shot."
Then Elton turned up the heat with and outburst that makes Bono's accidental "f-bomb" blurt at an awards show seem like child's play. "Madonna, best f***ing live act? F*** off! Since when has lip-synching been live?"
"That's me off her f***ing Christmas card list but do I give a toss? No," Elton concluded.
Madonna's spokeswoman Liz Rosenberg was
quick to fire back, denying the lip-synching accusation and blasting Elton
in an offhand way for his outburst.
"Madonna does not lip-synch nor does she
spend her time trashing other artists," says the statement.
"She sang every note on her Reinvention tour live and is not ashamed that she was well paid for her hard work."
The statement concluded with a little humor, "Elton John remains on her [Madonna] Christmas card list whether he is nice ... or naughty."
