The Charlatans Recruit The Verve Star To Fill In

(Gibson) A small bit of fortune has shown on The Charlatans in the midst of a calamitous week. As previously reported, the British indie band announced that drummer Jon Brookes was diagnosed with a brain tumor after having collapsed on stage in Philadelphia last week.

The group cancelled the remainder of their U.S. shows and returned to the U.K., so that Brookes could receive treatment. The group did, however, declare that the tour would continue with a "short-term replacement." That replacement has now been named.
Pete Salisbury, from Britpop legends The Verve, has volunteered to sit in for Brookes during The Charlatans' upcoming U.K. dates. The "Bitter Sweet Symphony" hitmakers split up last year, after having reunited for a tour and new album two years before. This past July, singer Richard Ashcroft confirmed to ShortList magazine, "I can't see any reason why The Verve would get back together." - more on this story
