. The story centers around three African-American women who helped make John Glenn the first person to orbit the Earth in 1962. The film is based on Margot Lee Shetterley's upcoming HarperCollins book Hidden Figures: The Story of the African-American Women Who Helped Win the Space Race, which hits shelves in September. Monae will star as Mary Jackson, who was the youngest African-American woman on the team. Oscar winner Octavia Spencer will co-star as Dorothy Vaughan. Read more here.
