Peta Arm Strong

08/03/05
.
(Peta) Between the tail-end of their celebrated European tour and the launch of their 22-city North American summer tour, Stretch Arm Strong lead singer Chris McClane and guitarist David Sease made time to pose for a brand-new pro-vegetarian public service announcement (PSA) for their pals at peta2—PETA’s youth division. In the ad, Chris and David, both of whom have gone vegetarian, appear in an exclusive photo next to The Smiths-inspired tagline “Meat Is Still Murder” and remind their legions of fans around the world that they don’t have to support cruel factory farms and the “deplorable meat industry” when great veggie options abound.

If fans are getting a little restless waiting for the band’s new album Free at Last (WPO Records) to drop on September 13, peta2 has great news: Visitors to peta2.com can register to win a free CD—before the album is available in stores—and other great prizes. The grand-prize winner will also receive a pair of pro BMXer Taj Mihelich’s signature Etnies—nonleather, of course. The Stretch Arm Strong PSA can be viewed at www.peta2.com. SAS played at my church, and played a huge part in my turning my life around! Yay for Peta2 and SAS!

Posted by Willy:
"Vegetarians save 95 lives a year"....That's great! But then you screw it all up by supporting PETA who kills over 2,000 lives a year. WHY?

Posted by Lovemachine:
Vegetarian is a start but till you go vegan you're still a hypocrite. Milk has puss and eggs are chicken periods. I've been vegan for 3 years now and never felt better. I'm 5'7" and before I went vegan I was a fat 110 pounds...now I'm a sexy 78 pounds (still need to drop a few more pounds but almost there)

Posted by Nancy:
I love Stretch Arm Strong and peta2.com. Remember you can't call youself an environmentalist and still eat meat. Meat production is that cause of many environmental problems in this world. Go to www.greenpeace.org to find out how you can join the Wings of Peace mission and help nuclear disarment.

Vegetarians save 95 lives a year...What do you do? Are you so immature that you must talk about people who are doing better than you are? Lol good try. I love Peta2.com and Stretch Arm Strong!!!

Posted by Megan:
I love Stretch Arm Strong and peta2.com. Vegetarians save lives!!!

Posted by lovexmetal:
whoa! a lot of anitpeta-isms over here.. i guess people are just upset by the facts that peta has "uncovered".. ok if you wanna go and be an indirect murder-er.. go ahead.. but don't diss the fact that peta is trying hard to spread the fact that meat is murder

Posted by Cass:
I love SAS and this article rocks man because Meat IS murder...

Posted by Cad:
i think its awesome that bands can use their fame to help out awesome causes like this i will support any band who uses its name for good! awesome job guys and now im sure gunna check u out!

Posted by Flatchested:
Ewww not PETA again. Is it true PETA members have sex with animals?

Posted by Cynthia:
i admire stretch arm strong because of their dedication to animal rights. peta is not as evil as people think they are. they've done lots of things for the cause, and changes many things in this world in order to make it a better place for animals. go peta! :)

Posted by Nataile:
I have so much more respect for the members of Stretch Arm Strong because of their time to such an important cause. It shows that they have respect and morals. This is really good for their image.. :)

Posted by Jesus:
I didn't know PETA killed puppies and kittens. Maybe you guy's should support another organization. "Puppy Killing PETA" doesn't sound all that nice of an organization to support.

BTW "GO VEGAN" anything else is still supporting the torture of animals.

Posted by Dirtypinko:
Just chimming in again to comment on all the terrible propaganda that has befallen what some of you may think about PETA. Euthanizing animals is okay if its relinquishing their suffering sorry unless you are a no kill shelter you cant speak anything about killing animals. Unless your Vegan you cant talk about what is and isn't ethical. Thats right I said it its easy to cast stones at a house made of windows. TAKE THAT BIG EVIL NON-PROFIT ADVOCACY GROUP!!! why dont some of you kids spend less time raging against the unestablished order and more doing something other than commenting on the internet. Oh and if you think you can make a non-profit as big as peta and more ethical go ahead. Hows that for walking the talk. Peta has saved millions of animals world-wide and thats the bottom line.

Posted by Dirtypinko:
Hell yeah PETA is an amazing cause, Stretch Armstrong is an amazing band this is good stuff all around for the record.

Posted by Tyra:
I think it's great that you guys turned veg.(Chris McClane and David Sease) And it's great that you guys are getting the message that "Meet is Still Murder" to your fans. Hopefully, they will turn veg because of your beliefs and they will realize what is going on in the world with animals in slaughterhouses and factory farms. You guys are now great influences on everyone that listen to your music. Great job guys!!! ^_^

Amazing.

Posted by Samantha:
This is a great way to inform people about vegetarianism. I love Stretch Arm Strong and Peta2. I hope they inspire people to think twice before eating animals.

Posted by Not Cool Enough To Have A Nickname:
Oh yeah, and go Stesha.Nice of you to inform some of these dudes.

Posted by Not Cool Enough To Have A Nickname:
PETA2 rock. The killing puppies thing is bull.
In eye irratation tests, sometimes restrained bunnies struggle so hard they break their own necks.
GO VEGETARIAN!

Posted by OnGoing:
To kill an animal for meat is "murder"...but to kill an animal because they're homeless...is Animal Rights?

I find nothing ethical about PETA killing thousands of healthy animals....I think saving animals is more important than spending money on a billboard of Pamela Anderson's plastic tits.

Posted by Panther:
Yeah I like PETA. They taught me that there is no harm in killing animals as long as you say it's for the better good. I killed 22 puppies this week alone. Next week I'm going to target kittens.

I really don't know much about Stretch Arm Strong, but they got my respect when I heard they are vegetarians and active in the fight for animal rights. Everyone should realize animals aren't ours, and these guys are the best at helping everyone realize it.

Posted by PP:
Peta2 is an awesome site, and a great way to keep the youth informed about what's going on in the world and vegetarianism. They don't go out forcing you to become vegan, they just show you there's another way of life, and the benefits of it in comparison with eating meat. Stretch Arm Strong is really cool supporting this cause, fighting for what they believe, so there's no need to fight about what everyone here thinks about PETA. I just think it's awesome, and no one can make me change my mind about it.

Posted by Casey:
I LOVE PETA2 and Stretch Arm Strong! They're AWESOME!

Posted by Stesha:
Stretch Arm Strong is an amazing band, but that's totally unrelated to my rant.

I think that vegetarianism is a great thing, and so is PETA2 for supporting it. I hate the way that people kill animals and don't even think about it as being murder. I can respect them for their decision to eat meat, but they should put things into perspective before they just go and kill an animal (and by that, I mean eat an animal). It's not as if there aren't delicious alternatives to eating animals. Besides, eating animals just makes you fat and slow and have to worry about heart disease when you're older.

A lot of people remain ignorant about the suffering of animals and I appreciate PETA2 for opening at least some eyes to it, whether that be through bands or facts. And even if someone becomes vegetarian for the wrong reasons, at least they've saved a few animals in the process, whether on purpose or by chance.

Some people eat meat because "animals are stupid...they can't even talk!" but would you eat a retarded mute person? I don't think so. I don't see how animals can be viewed as much different.

On another note, I think someone's been listening to "Say 10" by Reel Big Fish a few too many times. The pain of vegetables is not even comparable to animals... there's a slight difference between a plant's reaction and the connection between brain and muscle and tissue and nerves in animals... a connection that you should be able to identify with because you are built practically the same way as those creatures you're slaughtering and placing on your table as food. You're an animal, too. And I hope you think about gnawing on your thigh next time you reach for a steak. But hey, if you can think about all that without vomiting and still eat meat, then have at it.

Posted by elfmoogle:
Peta2 is cool, man. I think it's awesome how they are working to get music and activism together, especially for the animals. That's the best cause EVER.

Posted by lauren holste:
i think that this artical is radxcore.
stretch armstrong is an amazing band, and have a lot of fans, well. my friends are anyway. so, hopefully they'll cram a bit of knowledge into some kid's heads that hurting animals is w-r-o-n-g. thumbs up, dude.

p.s. you can't believe everything you hear about everyone.

Posted by Shea:
This is just my own opinion and Im not here to attack anyone but I am a street team member for peta2.I think its a terrific way to show kids there are other choices than killing animals for food. It reaches kids through certain bands they may like that are also vegetarian/vegan. Granted there are kids on peta2 completly ignorant about animal rights and vegetarianism and just there because of a certain popular band or they heard it was the new "cool" thing. You have that everywhere in many different 'scenes' because of the way kids change constantly becaus e of what others think. just because there are some kids eating meat and claiming to be vegetarian, it doesnt mean that peta2 is doing anything wrong, its just reaching to a group who is only there to claim something, but while they reach that group i think they are also reacing a group of youth that are interested in change and animal rights.I think that bands and peta2 working together is just helping both parties involved.just my opinon, feel free to agree or disagree

Posted by echo:
petas not killing puppys twisted...that was someone who claimed to be apart of peta...an peta has since pressed charges...im in peta i should know

Posted by rainbird:
I've seen that PETA2 site. The kids there think "Nuggets" are made from baby chicks and chocolate milk comes from brown cows. Most of them claim to be vegan and put down vegetarians (milk and eggs are crule)and then ask what flavor of "Slim Jim" do you like. Strang buch if you ask me.

Posted by Scotty Slapp:
Wait one second lola. There have been studies that show plants do feel pain and suffer. They be on a lower consciousness than a dog or a cow but that doesn't make their suffering any less valid. I'm with daedae, do what you can to save your little friends just don't beat me over the head with it. I'm now gonna go eat a steak and contemplate how I saved some plants from feeling pain.

Posted by lola:
Daedae-wake up. The diffence is that animals feel pain, suffer, and die whereas plants don't feel pain or suffer. There is a big difference.

Posted by daedae:
Y'know... I don't care if you're a vegetarian or a vegan, good for you, as long as a) you don't whine all the time when food establishments don't provide vegetarian/vegan options, and b) you leave me alone about it. I don't condemn you for eating things which have been brutally cut down and chopped up for your consumption--plants were one time alive too! *sigh*

Posted by Chris:
I love peta2!

Posted by twister:
With PETA killing puppies and kittens in the back of a van why would anyone support PETA? They talk the talk but don't walk the walk.
