There is no doubt that Sarah Jane Morris is an extraordinary woman. And it's not only the mournful songs of the blues with which the diva from the southern English port of Southampton gives her audience goose bumps. As an artist she has never been short of new ideas, and her versatility is almost dizzying. What's more, the only daughter among six brothers is just as happy on the theatrical stage as she is on the musical one. As a singer she easily straddles soul and jazz, pop and singer-songwriter ballads, musicals and avant-garde. She feels equally at home in the intimate atmosphere of a smoky London jazz club and a Sicilian open-air arena. And when she's not touring her own material or recording a new album, she's happy to lend her three-octave voice to a respected colleague or to delight the audience at a benefit concert.
