Sony Drop DRM?
music.tinfoil reports: Sony and Yahoo have teamed up to take a rather bold and unexpected step (especially from Sony!) - they plan to release mainstream music in MP3 format with no DRM at all.

Kean!

Of course, there is a hitch or three. First, in a bizarre twist, it costs twice as much. Second, the first song they have released was from Jessica Simpson, which is a form of DRM all to itself. [see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Smooth Up Reunion
PR reports: As part of his month-long Bananiversary Celebration, rock & roll comic C.C. Banana spoke with singer Marq Torien about the current state of the BulletBoys as well as Marq's recently-completed new album. A few excerpts from the interview follow:

C.C. Banana: What is the present status of the BulletBoys? Does the band even exist at this point? Who is in the current lineup and are there any plans to tour or release a new album?

Marq Torien: There is going to be a BulletBoys semi-reunion and we'll be doing some shows during the summer and into the fall. I say "semi" because there is one member who is still resistant to the idea. I love this guy very much and I just wish he'd come back so that the four of us can do what we do best. I care about this person immensely and I think he's one of the greatest musicians I've ever played with. We shared a lot of things together and we've gone to battle alongside one another in the music world. So far I've spoken with both Lonnie Vencent and Mick Sweda and they're both on board. Lonnie's definitely ready to go and Mick has said that the only thing he'd ever turn down is a warm Budweiser. So we'll just have to see what happens with Jimmy D'Anda.

Rap Flamer
PR reports: Daniel Rouse, aka Flame, is a young emcee that has been proving that New York City isn't the only place in the state that has talent; Flame is from Buffalo, New York and has been giving the NYC hip-hop scene a run for its money.

At only 20 years of age, Flame already boasts an impressive resume; features in The Source, URB, Yellow Rat Bastard, and Fader Magazine; inclusion of two of his tracks used in the HBO series Unscripted; a resounding victory in NYC's infamous live MC battle Fight Klub. Most recently, Flame teamed up with Stat Quo and Slim Thug on the street anthem "Putcha Hands Up." While Flame can mix it up with anyone in the street hip-hop game, he has an emotional maturity and understanding of the game that is rare for someone his age. So far, 2006 has been a busy year for Flame. He's been courted by labels, recording songs in Buffalo and NYC, and trying to keep everything in perspective. "I'm just trying to make good music that will stand the test of time. I'm only 20 and a lotta my people didn't make it to 18. I gotta make the right moves for me, my fam, the memory of them and put my town on the map." Expect to hear a lot more from Flame very soon... Claypool's Quest for Pumphouse
antiMusic reports: Les Claypool is a regular renaissance man. He just released a new solo CD, 'Of Whales and Woe', and Morley jumped at the chance to speak with him about it but they also delved into other projects Les is working on, here is an excerpt from the new MorleyView where Les discusses his new film and book.

antiMUSIC: What can you tell us about your film "Quest For Festeroo"?

Les Claypool: It's a mockumentary about a group of aging musicians that have been playing around Northern California in the jam band, hippie world. It's about a student filmmaker that documents these guys catching a couple of breakscatching a couple of big breaks. It's very dry, sorta Ricky Gervais, BBC Office=kinda dry. I appear in it, yes. It's been in a few film festivals. And we've won some awards. Premiered it at Bonnaroo last week. And we're just trying to get distribution for it right now. We've had some offers for straight to DVD distribution but we really want to get some sort of art house theatrical release. Holding off.

antiMUSIC: What can you tell us about your novel, "South of the Pumphouse"?

Les Claypool: It's not out yet, it'll be out in a couple of weeks. It's available at my shows right now, but that's about it. It started as a screen play, a 60 page screen play that I wrote about 10 years ago, and it eventually evolved into a 129 page screen play. We tried to make the film. I had started a production company and had raised money and lost money and had producers come on and come off. And finally I just said, I'm going to write it in novel form, so at least exists somewhere before it's convoluted by a bunch of producers and film makers. So. There it is.
