Why
Music Sucks |
New York Daily NEws reports: It's no secret
that traditional touring rockers hate the way media conglomerates, MTV
and pop music have changed the face of music. But [Rosanna] Arquette's
film [ "All We Are Saying."], which airs on Showtime on March 8, gathers
together an overwhelming collection of testimonials on the subject by artists
like Sting, Elton John, David Crosby, Steven Tyler, Peter Gabriel and Tom
Petty.
"There was a time when our catalogue was
worth $24 million, now it's worth like 12 cents," moans Tyler, Aerosmith's
lead singer. "Why? Because anybody can download anything on the Internet.
The only thing an artist today is worth is his happiness, integrity and
hard tickets."
"When I look at it now, it looks like professional
wrestling to me," whines Petty. Fans "know it's fake, but they don't really
care." [see full story for the full article, it's a fun read]-

Theft Doherty |
hecklerspray reports: That Pete Doherty. He
never learns, does he? Less than three weeks ago he managed to avoid prison
for all kinds of drug offences, but he's reportedly just been arrested
again - this time for car theft.
Apparently, Birmingham police detained
Pete Doherty and two other men last night on suspicion of stealing a car
from London and allegedly possessing a quantity of class A drugs. Really,
it's as if he hates doing Babyshambles concerts so much that he keeps getting
into trouble to deliberately skip them. [see full story for more]-

Razzie 07? |
hecklerspray reports: Remember Glitter? We
don't either. Of course we heard about it, it was the big screen debut
of Mariah Carey after all, but it got such horrific reviews that we'd eat
our own legs off before watching it.
It's been announced that slow-blinking,
award-grabbing, garment-intolerant warbling fruitloop Mariah Carey (CDs)
wants to get her foot back in the acting door. She's reportedly to star
in Tennessee, a film we already don't like the sound of.[see full story

Beatles
Secrets |
antiMusic reports: One of the Beatles most
beloved songs contains the words "F**king hell!" The hidden lyric to "Hey
Jude" is just one of the revelations in Geoff Emerick's new book "Here,
There and Everywhere: My Life Recording the music of the Beatles". Although
"Hey Jude" was one of the rare Beatles tracks that Emerick didn't engineer,
he reveals in his book that the mix to the song contains curse by Paul
McCartney.
"Just after the start of the third verse,
right between the lines 'The minute you let her under your skin / oh, then
you begin,' you can clearly hear Paul curse off-mic, saying 'F**king hell!'"
John Lennon caught the curse during the playback and said "Paul hit a clunker
on the piano and said a naughty word, but I insisted we leave it in, buried
just low enough so that it can barely be heard. Most people won't ever
spot it
but we'll know it's there."
There have been plenty of "inside story"
type books about the Beatles but Emerick gives us the inside story not
about the tabloid like going-ons with the band members but instead the
inside story of recording of the songs and how the Beatles broke new ground
as recording artists. Of course, the book is filled with other interesting
tidbits, for example how the album Abbey Road got its name. Many
believe it was named in tribute to the EMI recording studios but Emerick
gives the real story about the naming of the album. [see full story for

Walkmen
in May |
Punk Music reports: The Walkmen will release
their third CD entitled A Hundred Miles Off, through Record Collection
on May 23rd. The CD will be the band's follow up to their 2004 effort Bows
& Arrows. In the newsletter that they sent out, the band apparently
took two years to record the CD. Granted, they probably did it intermitently,
but give me a break! Two years? And to top it off they hve their own studio
in New York called Marcata Studios. [see full story for more]-

Hammerfall
Rocktober |
Blabbermouth reports: HAMMERFALL guitarist
Oscar Dronjak has posted the following message on the group's official
web site: Actually, we have more or less completed half the songs for the
album, scheduled to be released in the end of October this year. I have
a very good feeling about this, the music so far is very varied and, I
think, of high quality. My gut tells me we will be building on the foundation
of 'Chapter V: Unbent, Unbowed, Unbroken' and expanding the horizons of
what is HAMMERFALL even further. You all will find out eventually. I will
post more news on this as we go, with some song titles and such in the
coming months.[see full story for more]- Click
