Unreleased Nick Drake Songs Coming in June |
PR reports: Family Tree, to be released on
June 19th, 2007 on Tsunami LG/Fontana, will feature previously unreleased
tracks from the vaults of the Estate of Nick Drake. The album, produced
by Drake Estate manager Cally, tells the story of Nick Drake’s musical
development in the years prior to recording his official debut, Five Leaves
Left.
Family Tree explores the upbringing of
an artist who-- in his tragically short career-- produced three albums
which continue to be treasured by fans. Recorded in the late 1960’s, the
28 tracks feature lo-fi recordings made on a reel-to-reel tape recorder
at his home, Far Leys in Tanworth In Arden, as well as eight songs recorded
on cassette during his sojourn in Aix En Provence. The inclusion of two
songs, “Poor Mum” and “Try to Remember”, written and performed by Molly
Drake bears testament to her musical influence on her son, conscious or
otherwise.

DuBrow
Not Staying Quiet About Alleged Snub |
PR reports: Quiet Riot frontman Kevin DuBrow
has released a statement about an article in Guitar World about his involvement
in a Randy Rhoads Film Project. Here is his full statement: "The Truth,
The Whole Truth And Nothing But The Truth." As anyone who really knows
me will tell you, I adored Randy Rhoads. In my life Randy Rhoads and Frankie
Banali have been my 2 dearest friends. Friendship means everything to me
and I take it very, very seriously. If not for the start that Randy gave
me I would not enjoy the career that still supports me well to this day.
I miss his hilarious personality and not a day goes by that I don't think
of him. I would have loved to have been involved in an accurate film about
Randy who is still my favorite guitar player and best friend.
When Dakota films director Peter Margolis
called me to be involved in the proposed Randy Rhoads documentary I was
hesitant to say the least. With a recent book full on inaccuracies based
on the authors opinions rather than facts about Randy was released, I was
apprehensive at best. I relayed to him that my biggest concern was for
the film to be totally about Randy and not about others trying promote
a book or new album and their own personal agendas at the expense of associations
with Randy be it real, fabricated or imagined. Unlike others involved and
contrary to what some may believe, I have no ulterior motives. [see full

Drifters
Hits DVD / CD |
PR reports: This feature-length DVD package
presents the very first Drifters DVD release and captures this remarkable
band performing their greatest hits live at Classic T Stage, Shepperton
Film Studios, in front of a specially invited audience filmed during their
2006 tour. The longevity of the Drifters speaks for itself. The group continually
performs live and has enjoyed over 50 hits worldwide. The current line
up of The Drifters is Peter Lamarr, Patrick Alan, Rohan Delano Turney and
Victor Bynoe, all of whom contribute interviews for the bonus featurettes
on this DVD. It is these outstanding singers who will continue the legacy

During rehearsals at Shepperton Studios
famous Classic T-Stage for the Drifters Greatest Hits Live DVD, Peter Lamarr,
Rohan Delano Turney, Patrick Alan and Victor Bynoe decided to record some
Drifters classics in the way sessions used to be done- quickly and in one
or two takes. The guys did include some personal favorites originally sung
by legendary Drifters vocalists such as Clyde McPhatter, Ben E King, Rudy
Lewis and Bill Fredericks. Also included are songs and rarities from The
Drifters which are not readily available on CD but have been requested
by the fans over the years. Recorded at Classic T Stage during February
2006. Both the CD and DVD will be released on 06/26/2007. [see full story

Kweli Sets Release |
PR reports: Talib Kweli will release his new
album - Ear Drum - on July 24th. Ear Drum is Kweli's first album released
on his own label, Blacksmith Music and Warner Bros. Records.
Kweli says the album's title comes from
"the image of the ear and of the drum, which are powerful enough by themselves,
but put them together and it's an instrument in your body that helps you
hear. They're also two very simple, yet powerful words. I wanted to focus
on finding a sound that makes you move, and that's where the word 'eardrum'
popped in my head." [Punish your ear drums at the full story link] -

Love
Letters From Ella |
PR reports: To celebrate what would have been
Ella Fitzgerald’s 90th birthday, Starbucks Entertainment and Concord Records
are co-releasing “Love Letters From Ella,” a collection of never-before-released
love songs. Recorded with some of her favorite collaborators, including
Count Basie and his Orchestra, Joe Pass, and André Previn, “Love
Letters From Ella” also pairs the singer with The London Symphony Orchestra
for the first time. The CD will be available at Starbucks Company-operated
locations in the U.S. and Canada and traditional music retail beginning
on July 31, 2007.
The magical 10-track CD, mixed in high-definition
audio, includes Ella and Basie swinging “Please Don’t Talk About Me When
I’m Gone,” an intimate duet between Joe Pass and Fitzgerald on “The One
I Love” and a playful performance of “Our Love is Here to Stay” with pianist
André Previn. “Love Letters From Ella” also features the celebrated
singer accompanied by The London Symphony Orchestra on a stirring rendition
of “Cry Me a River.” The London Symphony Orchestra recorded the accompaniment,
arranged by 24-time GRAMMY® Award-nominee Jorge Calandrelli, at Abbey
Road studios in London.[see full story for more]- Click

Back
to the Starting Line |
PR reports: After nearly two years of writing
and woodshedding, modern rockers the Starting Line are set to deliver ‘Direction’,
their debut for Virgin Records, and quite possibly the strongest album
of their career. Now three records in, the Churchville, PA-based quartet—
vocalist/bassist Kenny Vasoli, guitarists Matt Watts and Mike Golla and
drummer Tom Gryskewicz —will release ‘Direction’ to both stores and digitally
on July 31st, at which point, the band's touring schedule will kick into
high gear.
The group will once again return to the
Vans Warped tour, joining the summer schedule on July 3 in Vancouver, BC
and playing through August 25 at L.A.’s Home Depot Center. The Starting
Line is also slated to perform at the Bamboozle Festival May 5 at Giants
Stadium in Meadowlands, NJ.

Unauthorized
Dimebag |
PR reports: Earlier in 2007 the Abbott estate
made a global announcement stating "The family of the late "Dimebag" Darrell
Abbott has not authorized anyone in the past or present to author a book
on his life." Since the announcement, many websites, blogs, forums, radio
stations and print magazines have interpreted this announcement to reference
the book published by MJS Music Publications, A Vulgar Display of Power:
Courage and Carnage at the Alrosa Villa ("AVDOP"). AVDOP is the authorized
biography of Jeffrey "Mayhem" Thompson, Nathan Bray, and Erin Halk. AVDOP
in no way attempts to tell the life story of "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott.
Although the Abbott estate has not commented on AVDOP since its release,
it is undisputed that the Abbott estate could not prevent the telling of
the life stories of Thompson, Bray and Halk. These stories have been authorized
and recounted by the families of each men. These men are heroes and their
legacy lives on in AVDOP .
Because AVDOP is not a book about, or a
biography on "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott, MJS Publications can only assume
that the Abbott estate's announcement is meant to refer to a book currently
being written by Zac Crain. Mr. Crain's book is about "Dimebag" Darrell
Abbott's life and has not been authorized by the Abbott estate according
to an email from J. Hoffman, the Abbott family estate's publicist, to MJS
Music Publications on April 26, 2007[see full story for more]-
