Previously Unreleased Nick Drake Songs Coming in June
PR reports: Family Tree, to be released on June 19th, 2007 on Tsunami LG/Fontana, will feature previously unreleased tracks from the vaults of the Estate of Nick Drake. The album, produced by Drake Estate manager Cally, tells the story of Nick Drake's musical development in the years prior to recording his official debut, Five Leaves Left.

Family Tree explores the upbringing of an artist who-- in his tragically short career-- produced three albums which continue to be treasured by fans. Recorded in the late 1960's, the 28 tracks feature lo-fi recordings made on a reel-to-reel tape recorder at his home, Far Leys in Tanworth In Arden, as well as eight songs recorded on cassette during his sojourn in Aix En Provence. The inclusion of two songs, "Poor Mum" and "Try to Remember", written and performed by Molly Drake bears testament to her musical influence on her son, conscious or otherwise.

DuBrow Not Staying Quiet About Alleged Snub
PR reports: Quiet Riot frontman Kevin DuBrow has released a statement about an article in Guitar World about his involvement in a Randy Rhoads Film Project. Here is his full statement: "The Truth, The Whole Truth And Nothing But The Truth." As anyone who really knows me will tell you, I adored Randy Rhoads. In my life Randy Rhoads and Frankie Banali have been my 2 dearest friends. Friendship means everything to me and I take it very, very seriously. If not for the start that Randy gave me I would not enjoy the career that still supports me well to this day. I miss his hilarious personality and not a day goes by that I don't think of him. I would have loved to have been involved in an accurate film about Randy who is still my favorite guitar player and best friend.

When Dakota films director Peter Margolis called me to be involved in the proposed Randy Rhoads documentary I was hesitant to say the least. With a recent book full on inaccuracies based on the authors opinions rather than facts about Randy was released, I was apprehensive at best. I relayed to him that my biggest concern was for the film to be totally about Randy and not about others trying promote a book or new album and their own personal agendas at the expense of associations with Randy be it real, fabricated or imagined. Unlike others involved and contrary to what some may believe, I have no ulterior motives. [see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

PR reports: Talib Kweli will release his new album - Ear Drum - on July 24th. Ear Drum is Kweli's first album released on his own label, Blacksmith Music and Warner Bros. Records.

Kweli says the album's title comes from "the image of the ear and of the drum, which are powerful enough by themselves, but put them together and it's an instrument in your body that helps you hear. They're also two very simple, yet powerful words. I wanted to focus on finding a sound that makes you move, and that's where the word 'eardrum' popped in my head." Unauthorized Dimebag
PR reports: Earlier in 2007 the Abbott estate made a global announcement stating "The family of the late "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott has not authorized anyone in the past or present to author a book on his life." Since the announcement, many websites, blogs, forums, radio stations and print magazines have interpreted this announcement to reference the book published by MJS Music Publications, A Vulgar Display of Power: Courage and Carnage at the Alrosa Villa ("AVDOP"). AVDOP is the authorized biography of Jeffrey "Mayhem" Thompson, Nathan Bray, and Erin Halk. AVDOP in no way attempts to tell the life story of "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott. Although the Abbott estate has not commented on AVDOP since its release, it is undisputed that the Abbott estate could not prevent the telling of the life stories of Thompson, Bray and Halk. These stories have been authorized and recounted by the families of each men. These men are heroes and their legacy lives on in AVDOP .

Because AVDOP is not a book about, or a biography on "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott, MJS Publications can only assume that the Abbott estate's announcement is meant to refer to a book currently being written by Zac Crain. Mr. Crain's book is about "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott's life and has not been authorized by the Abbott estate according to an email from J. Hoffman, the Abbott family estate's publicist, to MJS Music Publications on April 26, 2007[see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story
