The Dollyrots Skating on Cover Tune
PR reports: Sandwiched between The Dollyrots snarky power-punk ditties about being awesome and having hot best friends is a fiery cover of the 1972 number one song "Brand New Key" by hippie folkstress Melanie. A controversial song when released because of its alleged innuendoes, this revamped tune fits perfectly on The Dollyrots' sophomore album 'Because I'm Awesome.'

Clocking in at 02:53, this blistering version gives the original a big, snotty facelift with feedback guitars, driving bass and sneering vocals from Kelly Ogden (deemed one of Blender's hottest women in rock). Though it might seem like an unlikely cover for an LA punk band, The Dollyrots turn the folk-infused original into a rollicking good time.

Why cover "Brand New Key?" Says Kelly, "I discovered the song when I was about 16. My best friends' Dad had the coolest folk rock record collection and I was a growing girl looking for something, anything, to relate to and kind of latch on to. The stories, Woodstock, Greenwich Village, the clothes... so I became a 16 year-old hippie living in Land O' Lakes, Florida. "Brand New Key" was my theme song in those days. All I know is that's the year I worked all summer and at the end, I bought an acoustic guitar. The song really makes me remember who I was and where I was at the time." - dates and a link to the song

Pete Wentz Beats It with John Mayer
PR reports: Pete Wentz just posted a journal on his blog on Friends or Enemies along with the Fall Out Boy cover of Michael Jackson's "Beat It" featuring John Mayer. He writes: We were worried that m.j. Might roll in his non-existent grave when he heard our rendition but we were sure van halen would high five us for calling our friend john mayer to play the solo on this.

This is how all things are should work. You call someone up you think is rad and a friend of yours and say "hey would you do this thing" and he says "ok". We imagine this is how it went back in the day (except with a private jet ride, mound of coke and swimming pool of money- ahh I wonder what the good old days were like haha).

Anyway, this will be available on our "****" live dvd and we just wanted to express our musical man-crush for john. - As you ponder which past star Pete reminds you of with his writing style (it's Fred Durst), you can check the video and blog here

All You Need Is Love Boxset
PR reports: Tony Palmer's ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE available on 5-DVD Box Set May 13, 2008 through MVD Visual. In the early part of the 21st century the music industry earns literally billions of dollars; its influences stretch beyond merely musical art forms and are now an integral part of many different media including Film, Television and now the new Digital and Internet industry.

In the mid-70s, at the suggestion of John Lennon, the celebrated journalist and film director Tony Palmer decided to document the "Story of Popular Music" and set about interviewing and filming all the major players in the industry at that time, past and present. Even in the mid-70s this was seen as a monumental task, but despite the scale of the undertaking, Tony Palmer made a series of films that set the standard to which all subsequent biographers and documentary makers aspired to.

The critically acclaimed All You Need Is Love was broadcast across the world between 1976 and 1981. But since that time, it has neither been repeated nor commercially released on either video or DVD. Now available for the first time, All you Need Is Love makes its DVD debut as a lavish boxed set which contains all 17 episodes of the series on 5 discs.
