His addiction issues were cited in his departure from VR in 2008, which has left the band in limbo ever since, and his dismissal from STP last year, which saw them hiring Linkin Park's Chester Bennington as his replacement.
Just two weeks ago Weiland discussed the chance of a, "easy money" reunion with Slash, Duff McKagan and co in VR, while the interviewer described the singer as "slurring all the time" and saying it wasn't clear whether he was "joking or just in a daze."
But now the frontman tells News1130: "Past demons are past demons. That's stuff with I dealt with, like, 14 years ago. I guess Keith Richards gets asked about it, so why shouldn't I? But it's not something I think about ever - those days of my dope abuse and use are long since by me."
He also discussed his
new album.
Jones says of progress on the new album and the direction the music is going, "We're always on an experimental path. We never think about what worked on the last record or what's good on the radio right now. It's a selfish process, we just go in there with some riffs. We experiment and the riffs start to take a different path and over time, this riff from last week might go really well with this riff from two years ago. We piece stuff together, almost like a film soundtrack, you know? But I'll tell you this - there's a lot of stuff in 7/4. Breaking up 7 can sound like an even number to the listener even though it's an odd number, that's really exciting. Rosetta Stoned had some elements of that where we had a middle break and the end rhythm of 7 against 5. It kinda opens up a whole can of worms! There's some really light stuff going on but there's also a lot of heavy stuff in there too."
TeamRock then asked "If there's one thing that can be said about Tool records, it's that they're always worth the wait any idea on when it will be ready?" Jones responded, "Ah man, I really appreciate that. It's refreshing to be interviewed by someone that loves music and actually knows about our band. Some of the journalists we've dealt with it's been insulting to be interviewed by people that don't bother following music or even seem to like it at all - it's just a gig for them to get a paycheck. This lawsuit has really gotten in the way, all we want to do is get it behind us so we can focus on what we do best. I don't want to just get it out and worry about the next record, then look back and go, 'Why did I do that? It's a piece of crap.' I want to sleep well at night, it's my legacy you know? Some day, I'm gonna croak and I wanna look back on what I did and go, 'I worked really hard, took the time and had integrity.' I know our fans are frustrated and obviously want to hear new music. You gotta look at that in a good way and think, 'Wow - they really like us and they want more!' To be honest, you can't beat that feeling at all."
He also talked about the lawsuit.
The creative direction is being left completely open, so entrants are advised to listen to the song, be inspired, and create something that reflects their vision for the tune.
The official selection and finalist group will be chosen by Plant and Genero. The selected video will receive $3,000 and have their video used as the official music clip for "Rainbow."

The veteran performer - who spent a year-long stint with Anthrax last decade - suffered a frozen shoulder while snorkelling a year ago, although doctors first told him he'd sprained tendons in his rotator cuff.
And although he's not looking for sympathy, he's hoping fellow victims will offer him some words of hope. Vera says: "I went through four weeks of physical therapy and then did two tours with Fates Warning. This past January, the pain came back in a big way. It led to two MRIs and, thankfully, they ruled out a tear.
"But after a gig in January, playing on a record in February then another tour in April, it was ruled I'd acquired a frozen shoulder. By May I'd lost most of my range of motion and Iwas in severe pain. I got two cortisone shots right in the joint - fun - but all it did was dissolve the muscles in the area."

Lee's feelings have been inspired by attending the wakes of friends and family. He tells the Reno Gazette Journal: "I find it so odd that after somebody's funeral, everybody gets together and has drinks and celebrates and parties.
"You're like, 'This is f***ing weird.' But there's something real cool about it because everybody's celebrating a life and death simultaneously - the beginning of something new and the end of something old. So I think we've figured out that's how we want this to play out: much like a happy funeral, a celebration."

He will be racing in a mini at the fifth Croft nostalgia event. "I was 17-and-a-half when I got my first car - a Ford Popular, sit-up-and-beg style and with only three gears," says the rocker. "That August, I was in my home village of Dunston near Gateshead with not much to do, when somebody said there was racing on at Croft - so on a rainy day and with just one windscreen wiper on this Popular, myself and two friends headed down there. We drove straight past the lady on the gate because we couldn't afford to buy tickets."
"Having got my initial taste of live motor racing at Croft, I jumped at the chance to race at the Nostalgia Weekend," Johnson continued. "I was recently one of the drivers in a Porsche 911 that finished first-in-class and 20th overall at the Le Mans Classic, but it'll be quite a departure from that car's big fat tires and rear wing to the little Mini I'll be driving this weekend!"

Hoffmann says: "This album was different from the last as we had the cover artwork very early on. When we saw it, everybody knew right away this was it. It felt like Accept and it felt right for us.
"None of the song titles we had worked with the cover so we figured we'd come up with something that symbolises what Accept and our music stand for and Blind Rage just seemed to be fitting. It says it all - it's about aggression. Metal has never been about love and peace, it's always been in your face and Blind Rage seemed to be totally fitting. If you look around the world, there's a lot of blind rage going on, so it seems to be very relevant.
Speaking on Accept's official website, Goldsworthy says it was an "honour" to work on the cover and reveals he's looking forward to hearing the album. Read about that and watch the trailer

The video was made with audio-visual artist Chris Corner, bets known for his IAMX project. Numan says: "was a very exciting promo to film. The wealth of creative ideas pouring from Chris was very impressive - he knew exactly what he wanted and how to get it. Plus he was able to translate those ideas into clear instructions for me to follow. It was hard work, to be honest, but very enjoyable."
I Am Dust is taken from an EP of the same name, available now via Mortal Records, as is Numan's latest album Splinter (Songs From A Broken Mind). Watch the video

Kasey Anderson from Portland, USA, also said he would host a concert in aid of the West Memphis Three - three men convicted of murdering three young boys in Arkansas that many believe were wrongly accused because of their love of heavy metal and their case was the subject of the "Paradise Lost" documentaries.
Anderson, 34, was caught defrauding 30 investors for the non-existent album and later also conned more money by claiming he was to host a live show featuring some of the album's apparent stars.
However, he was actually using the money to bankroll his own musical career. He says mental illness and drug abuse led him to lie to friends.

But the frontman, whose production company will release Brown biopic Get On Up on Friday, suggests it wasn't always so - while admitted he learned many lessons from the Godfather of Soul.
"James was always very nice, very generous; but he talked about business a lot and I wasn't that interested," Jagger tells USA Today. "I'd listened to Live At The Apollo intently - you can hear he's a great performer, and I was picturing how he would dance. Then I went to see him at the Apollo and I was blown away. I was impressed by how hard he worked, and how he had the audience in the palm of his hand. That was a learning experience for me."

Label boss and producer David Earl says the project came about after the launch of Morganfield's album Son Of The 7th Son and the Fabulous Thunderbirds' On The Verge. "The phone was ringing off the hook," Earl recalls. "The subject was always the same - 'You have to get Mud and Kim to do an album together.'"
The pair are joined on For Pops by Chicago blues guitarists Billy Flynn and Rusty Zinn, pianist Barrelhouse Chuck, bassist Steve Gomes and drummer Robb Stupka.

He believes they've "mixed it up a little more" than they did on 2012's The Whippoorwill, their first record to be released in the UK.
But he insists they haven't moved too far away from the hard blues rock that's been gaining them attention.
The record, which hasn't been named yet, was produced by Brendan O'Brien. Starr tells Rolling Stone: "It's not a huge departure - there's really big rock'n'roll songs and some laid-back moments as well.
"We recorded live a lot again and we tried a few different things; some of it's top-secret but nothing that's so radically different. Have no fear. We didn't make a hip-hop record."

Speaking with Music Radar, the South African continues: "The problem is that a lot of these guys have ego problems, plain and simple. We've seen guys become rock stars overnight, which becomes a problem because that's not how we operate."
Earlier this year, Morgan, drummer John Humphrey and bassist Dale Stewart brought lead guitarist Bryan Wickermann into the fold to join them on tour, and things seem to be going well.
"Everybody seems happy and feels it's a good fit," Morgan says. "No signs of rock stardom with Bryan - we'll see how it goes."

It's set for launch on October 6 via Mystic Records, and sees award-winning guitarist Virgil McMahon and co reunited with producer Chris Tsangarides. Their 2011 debut secured them a Best Of The Year listing in Classic Rock.
Production on Army Of Three was held up while Tsangarides fought off a near-fatal attack of Legionnaire's disease, which sent him to hospital for three months. VATA bassist Jack Alexander Timmis says: "He was lucky to come out of it alive."

The band tells fans, "Putting down some new tunes - a week in the studio," accompanied by a picture showing long-time associate Shirley behind the mixing desk.
Producer Shirley returns to the fold despite enduring a difficult ride on Chisel's last album, 2012's No Plans. South African-born Shirley joined the band Down Under to begin recording, but revealed he had to have "strong words" with them as the Aussie rockers weren't in the right frame of mind.
"The first time I went over, they weren't ready to record at all," he says. "They didn't even know the chords to the songs - I had to have strong words with them."

Rock The Night Life is a song that 100 per cent fits for us , it is an excellent live song Every time we play it, it is a fantastic to view when the people bring up their arms, singing loud the chorus and play imaginary guitars.
This atmosphere and influence are reflected in the lyrics, that we have written with Herman Rarebell the master man for many Scorpions lyrics. We think like well, what can happen to you out on the road. If you Rock your Nightlife.
We only need to play the song 3 times during the recording session for our album KNOCKOUT. We have a special drum part in the middle of this song where Herman speaks with his Rock & Roll voice and seduce a hot Lady. This part was the highlight for us at the recording session for our album KNOCKOUT. We had a lot of fun with it as Herman recorded this part. At first the part should be filled just with music. But then our lead guitarist had the idea to bring in some dirty cab driver's voice and Herman just nailed it on tape within the first take.
The song is about the real life of a Rock & Roll band.
Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself as you watch the video here and learn more about the album which was released in the U.S. today

"Watch people play records? That's stupid. You couldn't pay me to go. I'm not oversimplifying it," he seethed. "That's what's going on. I don't think it would be any fun without the drugs. It's a drug party."
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee went on to single out Las Vegas' annual Electric Daisy Carnival, which this year saw two attendees lose their lives from drug-related causes.
"You take that many kids to Vegas in the summer, what could go wrong?" Petty quipped. "I knew it as soon as I saw the ad. I went, 'Ooh, dead people.' Do you need the money so bad that you'll put some kid's life at risk?"

Crafted by Brooklyn artist Danielle Mastrion, the mural is on the site of the former Lee's Sportswear, the storefront that made the album art for the group's landmark work, Paul's Boutique.
The unveiling on Sunday coincided with the anniversary of the album turning 25 on July 25, 1989. See the mural on Bowery Boogie or view it in person at 99 Rivington Street on the side of Wolfnights, a local sandwich shop. Mastrion previously painted a Beasties' mural at Centre-Fuge, a public arts project.
But the fate of the studio and the building does not stop with this sale. Tim Reynolds, who is the owner of Bravo Development, told the Tennessean he is already in negotiations with interested out-of-state developers.
On the surface a nondescript office structure located along Nashville's Music Row, the building gained national attention after musician and producer Ben Folds posted an open letter about the impending sale and making a case to preserve the studio, which among the tenants housed inside. RCA Studio A was founded in 1964 by Chet Atkins, an early architect of the Nashville Sound, and onetime Nashville A-team guitarist Harold Bradley.
"I've recorded all over the world and I can say emphatically that there's no recording space like it anywhere on the planet," wrote Folds. He rents the studio and has produced numerous acts in the space, which is large enough to contain a full orchestra. The long list of artists who have recorded in the space over the past half-century includes Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, the Monkees, Waylon Jennings and Tony Bennett.
Bradley, in a subsequent statement of his own, discounted the historic value of the building and the studio. "What makes a place historic?" he wrote. "The architecture of the Nashville sound was never brick and mortar. Certainly, there are old studio spaces that, in our imaginations, ring with sonic magic; but in truth, it's not the room; it's the music."
Written by original guitarist Ace Frehley, the song appeared on the band's 1974 self-titled debut album. According to legend, Frehley lacked confidence in his singing ability at the time, so bassist Gene Simmons handled lead vocals, despite his dislike of alcohol.
"Cold Gin" is featured as one of 9 tunes from the band's classic 1970s era in their standard 15-song set as part of their summer tour with Def Leppard. The KISS/Def Leppard run wraps up August 31 in Houston, Texas.
