Tales' Bites Competition, Sets New Box Office Record

(antiTainment) 'Shark Tales' took a big bite
out of the box office this weekend with a record $49.1 million domestic
gross, the highest October earnings in history. The new film by DreamWorks
Animation beat the previous record which was set last year by 'Scary Movie
3' with a $48 million opening weekend.
The John Travolta and Joaquin Phoenix firefighter
action/drama "Ladder 49" grossed an estimated $22.8 million, landing at
No. 2 this week. Last week's No. 1, "Forgotten," pulled in $12 million
to round out the top 3.
"Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow"
followed far behind at No. 4 with a $3.4 million gross. Meanwhile
Bernie Mac's baseball comedy brought in an additional $2.6 million this
weekend for the No. 5 spot.
