Open Letter To Metallica
05/08/2008
.
(antiMusic) You have to imagine that it's fun to be Dave Grohl. He wakes up in the morning and he can flip a coin to decide which music project to work on, or he might even fire up his computer and decide, "today I'm going to write an open letter to Metallica!". That's just what he did. The letter will amuse some fans, anger others and confuse a lot more. We won't read into what he had to say and let you decide the message he was trying to convey with the following: Dear Metallica, Hey, it's Dave! Remember me? Yeah, I'm the guy that's been listening to your band faithfully since 1983. I bought your first album 'Kill 'Em All' from a mailorder catalogue called Under The Rainbow, I think. Actually I can't remember. It was 1983 for Christsakes! But that album changed my life and I've been listening to your albums ever since (even 'St Anger'!). I can't wait to hear the new sh*t, and no matter what you guys do I'll always be first one at the shop waiting to hear it. I'm sure you'll come out and blow everybody's f**kin' minds, because you're f**kin' METALLICA! Good luck. And don't release it until it's kick-ass. Yours, Dave Grohl. P.S. Are you finished recording the drums yet?

Posted by Jesus Schwartz on 2008/05/09 19:55:24 I'm glad Dave thinks like me, I was feeling kinda alone and almost ashamed there for a minute...yes, St. Anger is a good album, but it could have been a much better album if: 1) Bob Rock stayed in his little booth to monitor the drums instead of accepting the band's invitation to play bass, and 2) they didn't try so hard to be "hard" and just had fun, something they seemed to have forgotten how to do, according to "Some Kind Of Monster"...they could record an acapella gospel record in Latin, and it still won't erase the fact that they made the best albums any band released in the 80's...
