RxGF - Any Other Way
One of the more fascinating songs on this album is titled "Things That Go Bang." This one doesn't feature Schaaf at all. Instead, it incorporates a succession of intriguing spoken word drop-ins, which are taken from various politicians. It's difficult to determine if this series of statements is intended to promote the left or the right side of the political spectrum. It, instead, seems to be meant to make the listener think twice about where our politicians are taking us. All of this is set against a spooky, low synth groove.
"How to Make It" appears to be aimed at the soul-sucking power of the entertainment industry. It brings the life of Judy Garland (who was said to be addicted to stimulants to keep her working nearly non-stop) to mind when Shaaf sings, "Enjoy your role as a slave."
Back in the 80s, bands really took advantage of spoken word clips to create intriguing musical collages. With Any Other Way, RxGF has picked up that ball, which was somehow dropped at some point, and runs with it extremely well. This is a quality album, by a high quality group.
