posting our writers' picks for the best of 2005.
Each day we posted a new Top 5 list from
one of our writers. Now at the conclusion we are please to present the
master list comprised of the top picks from all of our writer submissions.
Jacob McDaniel's Top 5 of 05.
5a. Andrew Bird - The Mysterious
Production of Eggs (tie): Check out the track "A Nervous Tic Motion
of the Head to the Left".

5b. Antony and the Johnsons
- I Am a Bird Now (tie): The emotion in Antony's voice is overwhelming.
"Man is the Baby" is a sure tear-jerker.

4. Chase Jedick - Break of Day:
Chase blends rock, pop, and folk into a triumphant indie sound, complimented
by vocals often compared to Paul Simon and Elliott Smith. It's a shame
that this album will go largely unheard.

3. Caribou - The Milk of Human
Kindness: Dan Snaith shows
that he hasn't dropped off from his days under the moniker of Manitoba.
"Yeti" was the first single off this album, but "Pelican Narrows" and "Lord
Leopard" have the most staying power.

2. The New Pornographers
- Twin Cinema: The New Pornographers crafted an impressive album,
reaching its climax with the building vocals at the end of "The Bleeding
Heart Show".

1. Sufjan Stevens - Come On: Feel
the Illinoise!: Sufjan was a runaway with album of the year. The disc
is great on the whole, but the highest points of this album are just amazing.
In my opinion, "John Wayne Gacy, Jr." is the single best track of 2005.

"Takk" -- Sigur Ros
"Cripple Crow" -- Devendra
Banhart
"School of the Flower"
