Ed Sheeran Sued For Allegedly Ripping Off Marvin Gaye

(Radio.com) The family of Ed Townsend has filed a lawsuit against pop star Ed Sheeran claiming his hit "Thinking Out Loud" borrows from the Marvin Gaye's classic "Let's Get It On."

Townsend, Gaye's co-writer, passed away in 2003 but his estate reportedly claims Sheeran ripped off the melody, harmony, and rhythm of Gaye's signature song.

This isn't the first major claim brought by an estate close to Marvin Gaye's catalogue. Last year, Gaye's own family won a $7 million settlement when they sued "Blurred Lines" writers (Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams) over the song's similarities to "Got to Give it Up," reported Billboard. Read more and listen to the two songs here.

Eric Church Announces Holdin' My Own Tour

(Radio.com) Just before his recent show at Colorado's Red Rocks Amphitheater, Eric Church announced that his 2017 Holdin' My Own tour will begin on Jan. 13, 2017 in Lincoln, Nebraska and that members of his fan club, the "Church Choir" will have first dibs on tickets.

And to make decrease the likelihood of scalping the physical tickets will not be sent out until pretty close to the show. "In this era where growing inequality seems to be the norm, we wanted to do everything within our power to put the advantage back in the hands of true fans rather than those that take advantage of the system, and by extension our people," said Church's manager John Peets in a statement. "It was important to us to invest time into evaluating and redesigning the ticket buying process and build the technology to level the playing field."

Added Church: "The way this album came together mandated we release it as a surprise, straight to our fans, as it was important for me to deliver the music the same way the creativity hit me--directly and swiftly. What I didn't anticipate is that it left me scratching my head a little, as this year was supposed to be spent writing," Church says in a press release.

"What this year's open schedule did afford us was time to think through the way the fans experience our music live, and it was important to us that we find a way to stick to these same principles when it came to approaching our shows, down to the way they go on sale." Read more here.

Kendrick Lamar And Schoolboy Q Visit the LA Rams Training Camp

(Radio.com) Kendrick Lamar and Schoolboy Q got the chance to go behind the scenes at the Los Angeles Rams' training camp, and after watching how the pros play they learned they're probably better off sticking with rap.

The rappers appeared on HBO's Hard Knocks Tuesday night (August 9). The part-reality TV show/part-documentary series will be following the Rams exclusively this season as the franchise returns to Los Angeles after a ten year absence. The Rams relocated to St. Louis in 1995, but they will be playing as the Los Angeles Rams once again for the 2016 NFL season.

"Damn, it's like every chance I ever thought I had at making it at football is really shattered coming out here," Schoolboy says. But that doesn't stop his enthusiasm for the team. "Let's see if we can bring a championship to LAC," he adds (via HotNewHipHop). The cameras cut to Lamar and Schoolboy each throwing each other massive passes. Even if the rappers don't feel they could compete on the national stage, they've still got quick skills and strong arms. Watch their appearance here.

Against Me! Stream New Song 'Haunting, Haunted, Haunts'

(Radio.com) Against Me! contributed a new track "Haunting, Haunted, Haunts" to the Adult Swim Singles program. The song has faint Irish feel as if Against Me! were channeling The Pogues to some extent.

A rocking guitar riff kicks off the song and builds into rollicking drums and bass line that keep the dance-punk song moving. "Tonight I can't sleep because I'm haunted/ So I'm breaking spells of intention/ All I can see is a space in between/ The space where you're missing," Laura Jane Grace sings on the first verse, hitting an angrier tone on "missing" that segues into the chorus.

Against Me! will be donating their fee from the single to the Flint, Michigan Water Crisis Response. Besides embarking on the band's fall tour this September, Laura Jane Grace will be gearing up to release her memoir TRANNY: Confessions of Punk Rock's Most Infamous Anarchist Sellout on November 15th. Check out the track here.

Twenty One Pilots Tyler Joseph Posts Letter To Fans

(Radio.com) While in New York for a two-night stint at the famed Madison Square Garden, Twenty One Pilots' Tyler Joseph paused to post a note aimed squarely at fans.

The frontman explained that although he's been quiet on social media as of late, it's because he's been working so furiously on the band's live shows. But Joseph did not mince words. He's doing it all for the fans.

Over the course of this year's extensive arena tour, Tyler and his bandmate Josh Dunn have been thrust into stardom. "Because we are "famous" now we have to do all kinds of interviews with random people," says Tyler in the letter. "But the thing that those people always ask us about is you guys. It's my favorite type of question because I love to brag about you." Tyler continues about his fans, known as the Skeleton Clique; "If you guys continue to look out for each other, support each other's art, and stay together you'll be unstoppable. "And the distance is just a season. More shows to come, more songs to write. Only for you guys. |-/" Read his full letter here.

Chance the Rapper's New Track Features In Olympics Ad

(Radio.com) The Olympics are the perfect time for new sportswear commercials, and those, in turn, are the perfect time to debut new rap tracks. Chance the Rapper lends some uplifting verses to a new song that appears in Nike's latest ad celebrating the U.S. Olympic Men's and Women's Basketball.

The black and white ad begins by beaming video of men's and women's basketball highlights onto houses and buildings. "We want some heroes in our story/ We need highlights for a nightlight/ We want glory for a while/ We want results, we want results/ Hit our families, hit our folks/ Bombs bursting in air/ Oh say, can you see America's face?" Chance raps as the camera cuts to him in profile, standing in front of an American flag.

The ad switches from video to shots of the U.S. Olympic Men's and Women's Basketball Teams, gathering in circles and pepping each other up to compete for their country. Chance leaves them with a message. "People, people, we the people would like you to know/ That wherever you go we're right by your side," he sings at the end. Check it out here.

Anderson .Paak Releases Triple Video

(Radio.com) In 2016, it's hard to confine a song to a single music video. As Beyonce taught us with Lemonade, an artist's body of work speaks in multiple parts to create an overall message.

In keeping with that theme, Anderson .Paak just released a single video for three tracks: "The Season," "Carry Me," and "The Waters," demonstrating that songs as movements in a single journey often tell the best story.

.Paak directed the video with Chris Le and it takes viewers through retro movie-making kitsch, hipster galactic exploration, and even some Drake-style dancing. Donald Trump's face also makes an appearance in the scrapbook-style video. Watch .Paak's ambitious premiere here.

Britney Spears Pranks Jimmy Kimmel

(Radio.com) Some people have an alarm clock, some use their phones to wake up. If you are a big television star like Jimmy Kimmel, on the other hand, you might have real life pop stars do the job.

Britney Spears recently snuck into Kimmel's bedroom and woke him up, (with his wife's permission) with a full on performance of her new single, 'Make Me."

After stealthily creeping through the house, and up the stairs, Spears crawled on Kimmel's bed. As the music started, she began dancing and was joined by her male dancers, who were dressed in tribal body paint and booty shorts. Laser lights shooting everywhere completed the atmosphere. Kimmel said, "Thanks for coming by." Check it out here.
