Artists Opposed RIAA Lawsuits
The UW Daily reports: Though the Recording
Industry Association of America (RIAA) has been tackling copyright infringement
by slapping lawsuits on online peer-to-peer file sharers, recent research
shows musicians are not convinced it is in their best interest.
New research from the Pew Internet Project claims that most musicians do not believe the RIAA's lawsuits will benefit artists.
During a one-month period between March and April, 2,775 musicians and songwriters responded to a Web-based survey with questions relating to copyright and music file sharing on the Internet.
According to the study, 60 percent of those surveyed do not believe the RIAA's efforts to halt file sharing through lawsuits will benefit musicians and songwriters.
Additionally, 35 percent believe free downloading has helped their careers, 37 percent believe it has not had any effect and only 5 percent believe it has exclusively hurt their careers. Of those interviewed, 83 percent have provided free samples of their music online. [see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

GNR Riot Trial
Blabbermouth reports: Canadian Press is
reporting that a police officer accused of using excessive force by hitting
a man in the teeth with his baton during a riot following a cancelled GUNS
N' ROSES concert was aiming for the man's shoulder, an inquiry was told
Tuesday.
Lawyer Bill Smart, representing two officers targeted by the probe, said the officer saw the man running toward the backs of fellow officers and considered him a threat. Const. Reg Forster didn't mean to hit Robert Parent in the face, Smart said. "He went higher than he intended to do," Smart told the inquiry into police actions outside the cancelled concert.
However, television footage of the riot, including Forster's hit on Parent, shows Forster delivering a two-handed baton hit to Parent's mouth. [see full story for more including video clip and photos]- Click Here for the Full Story

Everything that I am, all of my personality quarks and eccentricity have been shaped by my experience in Phantom Planet. They are apart of me forever. However, I feel as though its time for me to graduate from the school of life Pp provided. While I await my future with open arms, I embrace my past whole-heartedly. Aniston's character Rachel was about to board a plane to Paris in last

In fact, the snippet of Pearl Jam's "Yellow Ledbetter" used in the scene marked the first time the veteran Seattle rock act had ever licensed its songs for a television show.

Paris, Texas: Luck of the
French or Is It The Alamo?
Day in Rock reports: We receive bios for
bands in all the time and usually they are just a by the numbers promo/history
of the group. However, the Paris, Texas bio came in today and caught my
attention. It seems that there are forces out there working against the
band, great forces that want to see them fail, but they always seem to
cheat those forces. So I figured we'd give em a little plug here, and maybe
help em a little.
Here is the first paragraph so you'll get a feel for the full story. If you want to read the rest of their tale, then click the full story link and read on. Plus you can check out the first single from their album, which hits stores on June 8th.
"God was just a few hours off in trying to smite Paris Texas with a 15-ton backhoe. The band had left Madison's famed Smart Studios just hours before the vehicle smashed through a wall and into the very room where they'd been set up. Just think: Had the Almighty's sources been better, He could've finished the job, and Like You Like An Arsonist might never have been. Mudvayne Produced
press release reports: Mudvayne will begin
pre-production for the quartet's third, as-yet-untitled, Epic Records release
with producer Dave Fortman (Superjoint Ritual, Evanescence). Singer, Chad
Gray; guitarist, Greg Tribbett; bassist, Ryan Martinie and drummer Matt
McDonough chose Fortman because they felt Dave could combine the band's
extreme elements.
We've been extremely fortunate to work with some amazing producers, says Gray. Garth Richardson captured the band's raw energy on the first record and David Bottrill gave our music a three-dimensional quality on the second record. For this record, we asked Dave Fortman to produce because we wanted someone who can bring both of those elements together into a sound that's brutal and beautiful.
Scheduled for release this fall, the upcoming album follows the success of L.D. 50 and The End of All Things to Come both of which were certified gold. - Click Here for the Full Story
