Solo Vedder Surf
thetripwire reports: Jack Johnson's record label, Brushfire, is releasing the soundtrack for a film titled A Brokedown Melody. The soundtrack seems to actually contain a few interesting tracks. For starters, it includes an unreleased solo track by Eddie Vedder, titled "Goodbye." Other artists featured range from The Beta Band and Kings Of Convenience to Doug Martsch (Built To Spill)... and... Jack Johnson. You haven't lived until you've heard Eddie Vedder rock out to a ukulele. I guess he traded in his flannel for a Hawaiian shirt. Lollapalooza 2011
thetripwire reports: What does it take to get things done in Chicago? Simple. Money and success... mostly money. Prove that you can bring dollars into this beautiful city's bank account and kaboom! Mayor Daley gives you the keys to the city. Especially if you're bringing money to the city's Park System. Such is the case with Lollapalooza. This year's event was so large, so great, and so incredibly successful that the historic concert event has just inked a deal with the city to keep its hold on Chicago's Grant Park through 2011.[see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Vomitory Recording
Metal Blade reports: Vomitory will enter Leon Music Studios outside Karlstad/Sweden on December 3rd to start recording the new album. "This time we'll work with producer Rikard Löfgren, who is the founder/owner of Leon Music. Rikard Löfgren is still a pretty unfamiliar name within the death metal scene. He mostly works with more commercial music but he is a great producer and has his roots in metal. We know the guy since ages and we have great confidence in him. It's going to feel strange to do a new Vomitory album not working with our side-kick Henrik Larsson, but we feel it's time to try something new. Since Vomitory isn't exactly an experimental band, we feel that working in a new studio with a new producer is a good way of renewing the band. We have two weeks for the recording and one week of mix and mastering." The album is planned to be released by the end of April next year through Metal Blade Records.- Click Here for the Full Story

Starting on Halloween, we will take a break from song writing to tour Europe. We're looking forward to it!" Tim Lambesis

Fans Pick Otep Stops
PR reports: Putting the power back into the hands of devout fans, Eventful.com announces the first-ever user-generated tour - letting the fans determine where OTEP (Capitol Records) will perform by using the Eventful Demand feature! Launching today, fans from 18 cities will compete against each other for the opportunity to have OTEP perform in their hometown and the most rockin' bragging rights around.

Created and developed by Eventful.com, hopeful tour cities can compete, click by click, with the unique Eventful Demand feature available only at Eventful.com. Fans can cast their vote by visiting Eventful.com, or adding the OTEP demand sticker to their MySpace page, blog or website. Fans flock to Eventful.com to create a virtual sticker for their favorite performers which includes the "Demand it!" button by just copying and pasting the code into any modifiable website including their MySpace pages allowing true fans to spread the word about their favorite artists virally. So will it be Cleveland or Akron? St. Louis or Kansas City? Only the fans know for sure! Between October 24 and October 30, 2006 the revolutionary concept involves fans from across the country duking it out to see where OTEP - a heavy metal/rock band- will play. 18 cities will compete, but only 6 cities will win a chance to see their favorite artist give a live performance! This unprecedented idea opens the door to packed shows of loyal fans who can honestly scream over blaring guitar riffs, "I demanded Otep - and they came!"

Clapton & Cale
PR reports: After years of admiring each others musical masterworks and Clapton covers of Cale songs such as "After Midnight" and "Cocaine," guitar greats J.J. Cale and Eric Clapton have teamed up for the first time to create an original album together, The Road To Escondido. The 14 track CD was produced and recorded by the duo in August 2005 in California. The resulting music defies being labeled into any one category, but instead finds influence across the spectrum of blues, rock, country and folk. A hybrid sound that is unique musically, while still bearing the signature styles of Cale and Clapton recognized by fans around the world. The songs are warm and rich, with deep flowing rhythms, yet use an economy of words to express much.

In a true collaboration, Cale and Clapton jointly produced and recorded the album, each playing and singing on the tracks. Cale wrote 11 of the songs, Clapton wrote "Three Little Girls," John Mayer wrote "Hard To Thrill" and the duo cover the blues classic "Sporting Life Blues." J.J. Cale's touring band accompanies them on the album as well as guest musicians including, Taj Mahal, John Mayer, Derek Trucks, Doyle Bramhall II, Albert Lee, Nathan East, Willie Weeks and Steve Jordan. Particularly special is the involvement of Billy Preston, who donated his classic keyboard talents throughout the album. The album is dedicated to Preston and Clapton's late friend Brian Roylance. The Road to Escondido will be available November 7, 2006 . check out a listening party at the full story link- Click Here for the Full Story

Death Songs For The Living
PR reports: Gob Iron, a new collaboration between Jay Farrar and Anders Parker, have launched with the release of their first CD, Death Songs For The Living, in stores October 31st. "Some classic recordings are premeditated, but in certain rare instances, when an artist has something else entirely in mind, art barges through the studio door and takes over, bending the artist to its will." That's the word on the forthcoming album 'Death Songs For The Living' -- the debut from Gob Iron, featuring Son Volt's Jay Farrar and Varnaline's Anders Parker out October 31 on Transmit Sound/Legacy Recordings. This spontaneously created but strikingly coherent album stands as a real-time landmark from these two musical and spiritual kinsmen. Employing what Pete Seeger once dubbed "the folk process," Farrar and Parker have re-imagined songs by the likes of Stephen Foster, the Stanley Brothers, the Rev. JM Gates and others, interpolating elements of other traditional pieces as well as writing new, sometimes highly personal lyrics, so that the results sound both ancient and immediate, bringing a new layer of authenticity to the material. It was as if the very atmosphere of America was filling the lungs of the two artists as they sang. [see full story link for a preview]- Click Here for the Full Story

Hammer of the Honky-Tonk Gods
PR reports: From his twanging tribute to the Fender Telecaster guitar that he plays (and which he notes "was born at the junction of form and function") to the soulful closing of Arthur Alexander's "If It's Really Got To Be This Way," Bill Kirchen covers a wide swatch of musical terrain on his forthcoming album, Hammer of the Honky-Tonk Gods, slated for January 30 release in the U.S.

The album is his first for Proper American Recordings, which also gave the world recent recordings by Dan Penn & Spooner Oldham, the Hacienda Brothers, Bobby Purify and Andy Fairweather Low. On the new album, Kirchen reunites with friends who have accompanied him on recent albums. Nick Lowe, who refers to Kirchen as "a devastating culmination of elegant and funky," signs on as bassist and backing vocalist. Robert Trehern plays drums; Geraint Watkins and Austin DeLone man the keyboards. Paul Riley and Kirchen co-produced. For this album, Kirchen decided to put an accent on his songwriting, a talent that is sometimes overshadowed by his dazzling instrumental virtuosity.- Click Here for the Full Story
