Recap of top stories for 2006: April - June
Instead of just taking our usual Christmas break off and leaving you hanging until the 27th, we figured we'd use these "off" days to recap the most popular stories of the year. These were the most read individual stories from each month.  Enjoy and have a rockn' Christmas.  We'll see you back with the regular Day in Rock report when we return on Wed 12/27!

Here is the second installment, come back Monday for part III.

April
Snoop Brawl
antiMusic reports: Snoop is in the dog house in England after he and his entourage where at the center of a brawl with police at Heathrow airport that left seven officers injured and Snoop in the big house.

Snoop Dogg was released on bail Thursday afternoon after being held overnight at a London police station. Snoop and his posse stopped off in Heathrow on their way to South Africa where Snoop was scheduled to perform at The People's Celebration Concert.

The brawl reportedly started when members of Snoop's posse were denied entry to the first-class lounge of British Airways, according to the Times Online. Members of the posse allegedly started throwing whiskey bottles at a duty free shop and began arguing with staff members. Police arrived and reportedly told the posse they would not be allowed to board their flight. That's when all hell broke loose and the mob became "abusive and pushed the officer," according to a British Airways spokesperson. [see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

McCartney Stole Song?
Day in Rock reports: Does Paul McCartney owe Curtis Mayfield's estate some royalties? The intro and 1st verse of the song "Anyway" from McCartney's latest album Chaos And Creation In The Back Yard sounds strikingly familiar to the Jeff Beck / Rod Stewart arrangement of Mayfield's "People Get Ready". While many astute reviewers picked up on this "borrowing" when reviewing the album when it was released last year, we have learned that McCartney is definitely familiar with the song. In March 99 when McCartney was inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist (along with Mayfield), McCartney participated in an all-star jam with Bono, Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel and yes one of the four songs they performed was "People Get Ready," according to SpringsteenLyrics.com [see the full story link to read their account of that performance]- Click Here for the Full Story

But the advice a RIAA representative gave the sophomore physics major at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology didn't really sound reasonable: Drop out and get a job or switch to a cheaper community college.[you really need to click over for the full story on this one. ]- Click Here for the Full Story

Axl Vs Hilfiger
antiMusic reports: Axl Rose got into a bit of a tiff with Tommy Hilfiger on Thursday night at The Plumm in Manhattan. Tommy threw a fit when Axl moved his girlfriend's drink. "I moved his girlfriend's drink so it wouldn't spill," Rose told the Kevin & Bean on KROQ during a short interview Friday morning. "It was the most surreal thing, I think, that's ever happened to me in my life."

Tommy was in such a snit over the moved drink he "smacked" Axl in the arm. "He just kept smacking me," Rose said. Club owner Noel Ashman to the New York Post, "Axl was a gentleman and had the good sense not to retaliate, as he would have done some serious damage to Hilfiger." [Maybe Axl was in shock that Tommy had a girlfriend?]

Axl was on KROQ to announce that Guns N' Roses are to headline the station's Inland Invasion on 9/23 at the Hyundai Pavilion in Devore, Ca. This will be the Gunners first LA area gig in over a decade. [we know that a couple of ubber cool folks at KROQ read the Day in Rock, so come on kick down some tickets!]

Sum 41 Split
MTV reports: Sum 41 lead guitarist Dave 'Brownsound' Baksh has decided to leave the band. In a press release, Dave revealed, "I couldn't continue on creatively in Sum 41 without being a thorn in the side of the band. As people grow, they change." Brownsound added, however, that there is absolutely no animosity between him and the other members of the band, saying "we are brothers." According to Mike Renaud, the president of Upper Management, the split was simply a matter of Baksh wanting to focus his creative energies elsewhere. Brown Brigade will have more of a "classic metal" feel to it, Renaud said, adding that Baksh is currently working on songs and auditioning singers for the band. Kill Emo Bands
Gigwise reports: The Killers' Brandon Flowers has launched yet another scathing attack on emo bands like Fallout Boy.

He ranted to the NME: "Culturally, if it gets as big as it is in America, it could change an entire generation of people growing up here. Emo, pop-punk, whatever you want to call it, is dangerous.

"We don't wanna dislike anyone, and we've still never met Fall Out Boy, but there's a creature inside me that wants to beat all those bands to death. [see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Journey Lip Sync?
antiMusic reports: A Journey fan going by the name of Rockndeano has accused Journey frontman Steve Augeri of lip synching during the band's shows. A discussion of the issue began on Melodicrock.com but he quickly saw the need for a dedicated site to discuss the controversy, so he launched a blog on June 1st. To back-up the claims he has posted several songs via YouSendIt but accused the band of having them removed (we were too lazy to trackdown and listen to any).

Here is a bit of what Rockndeano has to say: "Lead singer Steve Augeri, has had some serious vocal problems the last year or so, and after many hundreds of man hours breaking down concert bootlegs and analyzing 'live' songs from different venues, I have levied the charge against my once favorite band....They use tapes for lead vocals. Yes, you heard that right. Journey has resorted to using tape for lead vocals live." [see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Korn Hospitalized
antiMusic reports: Korn frontman Jonathan Davis was hospitalized in the U.K. for an unspecified illness. The band was in the UK to take part in the Download Festival. Instead of calling off Saturday's performance, the band called on a plethora of special guest singers to fill in for Davis including members of Slipknot, Devildriver, Trivium, Avenged Sevenfold, Skindred and 10 Years.

Because of Davis' illness, the band was forced to cancel Sunday's Download performance in Dublin and also cancelled Tuesday's concert in Amsterdam, their support group Hatebreed will play a headline set instead, according to MetalRage.com. 666: Mark of the Aiken
antiMusic reports: Some Claybots were incensed that we dare link Clay Aiken with the Biblical Mark of the Beast yesterday. We have bad news for them; we didn't make this up as his birth name Clayton Holmes Grissom really does translate to 666 using Gematria (the Greek method of assigning numerical values to words). If you take Clay's first and middle initial and last name of birth it totals 666. Good thing that those researches we reported on yesterday contend that the mark of the beast is really 616. An interested aside; strange as it may sound Ryan Seacrest's name equals the divine number 888. So that should tell you how much stock to put in this!
