Drowning Pool Week: Reason I'm Alive
antiMusic reports: Drowning Pool's new CD 'Full Circle' hits stores this week and to celebrate we have asked frontman Ryan McCombs to tell us a little bit about his favorite five songs from the CD. Here is Ryan with his take on the track "Reason I'm Alive".

Definitely the highlight of making this record. The band and I had some time between submitting the album-tracks and the mixer becoming available. When the opportunity arose to head out to L.A. and collaborate with Nikki Sixx and DJ Ashba at Funny Farm Studios we knew this was a no-brainer if there ever has been one. We ended up recording this track and a second one that Gunner Sixx appeared on but "Reason I'm Alive" was the only one that made the record. To be honest the 2nd track was also one of my favorites but I just blew on the vocals. I'm looking forward to re-do the vocals for the next album. It was awesome sitting with Nikki and DJ working out the different parts of the tracks. It felt so effortless that I sometimes lost track of who I was working with. Then all of a sudden I'd realize that we're tossing ideas around with Nikki friggen Sixx and think " I hope someone has a camera on them!".

These two tracks also exemplify the talent and dedication of DP band members. They jump on a plain to work with guys they have never worked with before having only three days to knock their parts out of the park, and they do. This was yet another moment since joining DP that I realized there is no room for anything but my A-Game with these boys.- Learn more about this new release, as well as their worthy USO efforts for wounded troops, grab tour dates and more here

Pearl Jam Vs AT&T
antiMusic reports: Pearl Jam are a bit miffed at AT&T Blue Room for censoring part of the live webcast of their performance Sunday night at Lollapalooza. Curiously absent from the webcast were portions of the performance of the band's anti Bush rant "Daughter".

AT&T claim it was a mistake, CMJ contacted them for comment and were told that a webcast editor mistakenly took the portions out due to their policy of censoring excessive language due to their all-ages audience.

"This, of course, troubles us as artists but also as citizens concerned with the issue of censorship and the increasingly consolidated control of the media," Pearl Jam wrote in a statement on their website. Then again they shouldn't be surprised by the corporate action since they were performing at a festival that has become more and more corporate as the years go by.- Read more about the band's anger and AT&Ts response at CMJ

MP3 Virus
antiMusic reports: Not to start conspiracy theories, but has the music business finally found a way to battle music piracy? A new virus has been unleashed that destroys MP3 collections on infected PCs.

The cleverly named virus W32. Deletemusic lives up to it's name by devouring any MP3s it finds on an infected computer. Files on your harddrive are not the only ones at risk as this virus will also destroy MP3s on attached devices as well. In fact, Info World reports that flashdrives are the primary medium used to spread the virus. Mac and Linux users need not be alarmed as this virus targets the virus friendly Windows varients (which some call a virus as well).

The source of the virus is not known but it was discovered on July 30th. Info World reports that the likely suspect for the source is not the RIAA but a teenager.- more on this story

Chris Cornell Imposters
antiMusic reports: Seems Chris Cornell has been the victim of online identity theft. Or at least people are pretending to be Cornell while chatting or corresponding online. Cornell probably broke a few fans hearts when he announced they were talking to imposters.

Cornell took to his Myspace page on Monday to inform fans that they were not talking to him. He writes: "Hello this is Chris Cornell. Over the past several months, several incidents have taken place where others felt the need to engage in activities pretending to be me. I have been wanting to make a clear statement to fans, friends and anyone this may concern; under no circumstances, under any name or address do I or have I ever communicated or corresponded with anyone online or otherwise."- more on this story

antiMusic reports: Amy Winehouse was hospitalized for "severe exhaustion" Wednesday morning causing her to miss a festival appearance in Norway. There were reports that she missed a festival appearance last month due to hospitalization as well, but she was spotted drinking in her local pub.

Winehouse was admitted to University College London Hospital Wednesday morning and released a few hours later. According to the BBC, a label spokesperson said "Amy was discharged from the hospital this afternoon and has been advised to take complete rest. Scheduled performances in Norway and Denmark this week have been cancelled."

The singer also missed a festival appearance on July 4th at Liverpool Summer Pops. Gigwise reported at the time that she missed the gig because she was believed to be hospitalized for an unknown reason.- drinking will do that to you. more on that here

Kids Back on Ozzfest
antiMusic reports: They were deemed too young for the Jagermeister stage at Ozzfest but it looks like Black Tide have been promoted to the main stage at the music festival. So much for putting in years of paying dues.

TuneLab is reporting that Black Tide has indeed joined Ozzfest after they announced last week that they had the opportunity taken away from them by the liquor giant Jagermeister because they were not old enough to drink. Sharon and co seemed to have gotten around this by bumping the band up to a coveted "main stage" slot. Not bad for a band who hasn't even released their debut album.

Woodstock For Sale
antiMusic reports: Good news for aging hippies that turned into yuppies and made a killing since the Summer of Love. You have the opportunity to buy a huge part of hippy history. That's right, Woodstock is for sale!

Roy Howard, the owner of the farm that hosted the famed Woodstock festival in 1969 has put the property up for sale. Hippy heaven can be yours for the low asking price of $8 million. Seems Howard's dreams of hosting another Woodstock have been crushed by "the man" who have denied him permits for music festivals on the land.

According to AP, "Up for sale is the 186-square-metre house that belonged to dairy farmer Max Yasgur, along with a larger farmhouse, a barn and 42 bucolic hectares about 130 kilometres north of New York City" and other goodies but there is a HUGE catch. - more on this story

Common Rapper Beats Korn
antiMusic reports: At appears that there are 32,000 more Common rap fans out there than children of the Korn as the generic named rapper beat the nu-metal pioneers to the top of the charts during the first week of sales for their respective new albums.

Common enjoyed his first chart topping debut when his new album Finding Forever moved 155,000 copies last week. Korn's untitled album proved that there is still a healthy nu-metal audience in the U.S. with sales of 123,000 according to reported Nielsen SoundScan numbers. - more on this story

Frank Zappa Day Declared
PR reports: Thursday, August 9th is Frank Zappa Day in Baltimore, MD, as proclaimed by Mayor Sheila Dixon. Frank Zappa was born in Baltimore in 1940 and, coincidentally, wrote and recorded a song entitled "What's New In Baltimore?" Dweezil Zappa, his son, is bringing the ongoing Zappa Plays Zappa/"Tour de Frank" to the Ram's Head Tavern there on the day designated to honor his late father.

Far from a "tribute band," Zappa Plays Zappa underscores the compositional genius of Frank Zappa much as a symphony orchestra would perform pieces by a master composer.

The Mayor's proclamation, to be presented at the concert reads, in part, "The City of Baltimore is proud of its rich musical heritage, and is honored to claim the prolific composer, musician, author, and film director Frank Zappa as a native of our fair city- read the rest of the proclamation here

Aerosmith Can't Sell Out After Selling Out
antiMusic reports: Anthony Kuzminski continues this week with his critical look at the music business. So far his editorials for antiMusic have sparked some fierce debate across the web. His latest focusing on Aerosmith should make some waves as well. Here is the intro followed by a link to the full article: On December 13th, 2005 Steven Tyler peeked out into the Bradley Center in Milwaukee right before the band hit the stage to see 15,000 empty seats. Steven was stunned into reality and immediately asked "Why are there so many empty seats?" There was silence all around him for a few gaping moments before a shy voice spoke up and said "Tickets are far too expensive" to which Tyler gave this person a look as if a cat and dog had just copulated in front of him.

He heard what this person said but he had a deer in headlight look on his face; he didn't get it. Tyler asked what this person meant by their comment and they went on the explain that top tickets for the show cost upwards of $160, it was a Tuesday night, two-weeks before Christmas and that the band had been in Milwaukee or near it on the touring circuit eight of the last nine years. One thing I would have added was the fact that Aerosmith, on this portion of their never ending tour, were performing a measly 95-minute set.

I remember people telling me the $160 was worth it because the set was nothing but songs from their golden era in the 1970's (approximately $10 a song). In response I said "Well, if you cut thirty-five minutes from your show it's very easy to narrow your set down to one decade". As some of you read this you must immediately be thinking how I am making this up, but I am not because someone I trust implicitly saw it go down first hand.
