Safetysuit Preview
PR reports: Meet Safetysuit, four talented musicians from Tulsa who are as comfortable with their music as they are with each other. When asked what makes a good song, singer/guitarist Doug Brown replies with a simple answer, "quintessential good melody and good lyrics." This recipe clearly works for SAFETYSUIT whose songs capture the grandeur and depth of U2, with an imaginative pop sensibility at its core and a dizzying wall of guitars as its backdrop.

After stirring up a huge buzz on Tulsa's local circuit under the name Crew, the band headed off to Nashville to record their first EP, playing gigs whenever and wherever possible. The quartet quickly felt at home with a growing fan base and budding interest from major labels.

A deal with Universal soon followed, and SAFETYSUIT kept producer Greg Archilla (Matchbox 20, Collective Soul, Buckcherry) on board for their debut full-length album, Life Left to Go, due out on May 13th. - Listen to "Someone Like You"

Protest The Hero Drop Off Silverstein Tour
BW*BK reports: Canadian metallers PROTEST THE HERO have updated their MySpace page with the following message from frontman Rody Walker: It is my unfortunate duty to inform you all that we will not be continuing on the SILVERSTEIN tour. From the often hatefilled and frequently dissapointed messages our MySpace has been receiving in relation to the cancelation of the Texas dates (specifically Dallas) I've decided that dropping those dates has impacted those who enjoy our music like feces in a clogged up colon... or is that compacted? I don't know.

Now what I'm sure you're all eagerly awaiting is a reason, some sort of crude justification to help your rage subside... if you're listening to 'After The Eulogy' this may be a serious problem. Without exposing specifics I will attempt to explain. While on tour recently, we realized our internal structure was built on a whimsicle foundation. We have become a disorganized touring band, and it's left the five of us exhausted and miserable.

Ergo, we are revamping, whipping our team (and cream) into shape, polishing our rims, straightening our brims, and making a stab at semi-professionalism. Though dropping a tour may seem like a very unprofessional thing to do, we need this time to get our ---- back on track. - more on this story

Sky Eats Airplane Join Emo Vision
PR reports: Albany, NY based EQUAL VISION RECORDS is proud to welcome Fort Worth, TX electronic-hardcore act, SKY EATS AIRPLANE to its roster! The band have already received an incredible amount of recognition in the press as an unsigned act, including an appearance in Alternative Press' AP&R section in November 2007.

Countless blogs and webzines listed SKY EATS AIRPLANE as one of the top unsigned acts of last year. It's no wonder why there's such a buzz. To date, the band's Myspace has received over 4.5 million plays.

The five-piece recently recorded a 10-track set with producer Brian McTernan (Circa Survive, Senses Fail, Hot Water Music) at his studio in Baltimore, MD. "We've matured a lot and for the best since the last record," says guitarist Lee Duck, comparing the current sound to that of their self-produced E.P., Everything Perfect On The Wrong Day. "It's more technical. You'll hear a lot of polyrhythm's and odd time signatures with many dynamic changes but overall, we are modest with our 'heaviness'," describes guitarist Zack Ordway. On working with McTernan, Ordway says "it was really easy working with Brian. I felt like he and I were on the same page most of the time." Duck continues, "it was amazing to work with someone who could help us find our sound without trying to make us someone weren't. Three demos from the forthcoming release are currently posted on the band's Myspace. An album title and release date are TBA. - tour dates

Free The Robots
PR reports: rephlektor inkorporated is pleased to introduce you to a future star in the making Santa Ana, California's Free The Robots (AKA Chris Alfaro). The genre-defying artist pulls together heavy doses of traditional jazz, Hip-Hop, psychedelic sounds, indian spice, progressive melodies, obscure samples and devastating drums into a rich pot of sound. The vibe is constantly changing from catchy up-tempo b-boy classics, to melodic down-tempo depressants, to heavy beat driven epic masterpieces.

Those of you already at SXSW or planning an imminent arrival will not want to miss Thursday evening's OBEY Records showcase at Barcelona featuring sets from Free The Robots, Diplo, Flying Lotus and much more. Free The Robots will offer a live set filled with tracks from both previous releases and his forthcoming split EP (with The Gaslamp Killer) entitled Killer Robots. Made available to you as a free download, lead track "Clocks And Daggers" sounds like a cross between DJ Shadow and the music to a George Romero zombie movie while "The Bearded Lady Theme" conjures images of our sideshow freaks of yesteryear. The title says it all but the music must be heard!

Be Your Own Pet Awkward Video
PR reports: Get Awkward is the sophomore full-length from Nashville foursome Be Your Own Pet, in stores March 18th Making it presented new challenges for Jonas, Jemina, Nathan, and John, and yielded some surprises. The songs remain fast and loud, totally wired and tantalizingly brief. Applying the dubious word "mature" is open for heated debate string arrangements and soppy ballads are blessedly absent but the music definitely reflects a sharp increase in experience.

"I was nervous, because it was our first second record," confides guitarist Jonas Stein. Stop squirming that syntax does make sense. "Before we recorded our first album, we'd had those songs for God knows how long, before we'd gotten attention from anyone but ourselves." (Since 2003, to be precise.) And following that gestation period, the ditties featured on their self-titled debut and assorted EPs and singles enjoyed months of refinement on the road. "After all that, it was like, 'Okay, time to write a new record starting from scratch.' It was the first time we'd ever done anything like that."

"The first time we were recording was scary," singer Jemina Pearl recalls of making Be Your Own Pet. The band was reluctant to tamper with proven formulae. Dead set against it, actually. "Try a slow song? No way. That's not what we do!" This is where the aforementioned experience creeps in. "You realize, doing other things doesn't make you less true to yourself," she concedes. "So this time, we were trying to mix it up, have more variety, rather than just attack-attack-attack, the whole way through." - The Kelly Affair video
