From The Basement Featuring The White Stripes, Radiohead, Sonic Youth and More
Kayos reports: On March 3, Eagle Rock Entertainment will release From The Basement, a stunning DVD which features unique, full-length session performances from a fantastic line up of contemporary artists: Radiohead, White Stripes, Beck, Jamie Liddel, The Shins, Jarvis Cocker, Neil Hannon, Laura Marling, Sonic Youth, Eels, Albert Hammond Jr, PJ Harvey, Super Furry Animals, Damien Rice, Autolux, Jose Gonzalez and Thom Yorke.

From The Basement was broadcast on IFC in the US at the end of 2008. This release provides a lasting record of the stunning first shows. Clocking in at well over two hours of great entertainment, and being issued in special eco-friendly packaging, this is a truly special release.

From The Basement has a simple premise: "put the music first". There is no presenter and no big production. The acts go into the studio, set up and play their hearts out in front of the cameras. The mix of artists is eclectic but with an overriding common factor they really know how to deliver a performance. The DVD opens with two exclusive performances by Radiohead from the In Rainbows album and closes with two tracks from the album performed solo by Thom Yorke. From The Basement brings together some of the best performances from the series so far and reflects the breadth of talent and styles that have graced the basement studio.

Wishbone Ash Vs Wishbone Ash
Nightwatcher reports: Looks like there's a feud a brewing in Wishbone Ash land. And apparently, one shouldn't hold ones breath waiting for a reunion of the original band any time soon. Speaking to Classic Rock Magazine, bassist Martin Turner, whose own version of Wishbone Ash (Martin Turner's Wishbone Ash) will be touring throughout 2009, was asked if there was any chance of marking the band's 40th anniversary this year with a special show with his former bandmates.

"Oh God, this is messy," said Turner. "We had a brilliant offer to put the band back together, so long as there were three original members. Ted Turner [guitar], Steve Upton [drums] and myself approached Andy [Powell]. A year later he was still stalling. Now he's announced a 40th anniversary gig at Shepherd's Bush [on May 16] and wants the three of us to join him on stage to perform guess what? The whole of Argus."

"Wow, what a great idea," said Turner, whose own version of Wishbone Ash has already re-recorded and released the seminal album. "Andy Powell can ---- off. We won't be his support band." - more on this story

Want A Pete Wentz Valentine?
PR reports: This Valentine's day, Pete Wentz from Fall Out Boy and singer-songwriter Tyrone Wells are playing cupid for a cause. Invisible Children, a media-based organization that provides relief for the war-affected people of northern Uganda, is holding a raffle to win a personalized Valentine's videogram for your sweetheart. Tickets can be purchased as two for $2, four for $5, or 20 for $20 on Invisible Children's online store until February 11th.

Winners will receive a personal note from Pete or Tyrone to their Valentine via video on February 14th, with all proceeds going to Invisible Children. The raffle's inception came about with Wells in 2008, who has largely been involved with Invisible Children throughout the years. Wells has participated in their national event called the Global Night Commute, and by selling the original 'Rough Cut' documentary on the road. Wentz has also been an active advocate for the organization, taking Invisible Children out on three Fall Out Boy tours, including their upcoming tour in April, along with his involvement in other fundraising initiatives, including his recent art show in Los Angeles with Travis from Gym Class Heroes.

Invisible Children's ability to creatively integrate a community of musicians and artists around its mission has generated a global awareness about the longest-running war in Africa in an entirely unique way. With the success of 12 band tours, benefit shows, and music festivals like Bamboozle and Warped tour, Invisible Children has empowered artists to use their voice in a powerful and inspiring way.

The Datsuns Return With New Album
PR reports: The Datsuns are set to release their fourth album, Headstunts, on April 14th. Featuring 12 new tracks, "Headstunts" was recorded in Sweden, and is self-produced.

From the full-throttle opener Human Error, to the dirtbike guitars and frenzied pummelling of Yeah, Yeah, Just Another Mistake and the 70's stomp rock of Highschool Hoodlums, the album finds the band unleashing their finest work to date.

"Lyrically it's about mind games really; 'Headstunts' is an anagram of The Datsuns. We were aware of it all along, but we didn't want to make it too obvious," explains singer Dolf. "We got a new member of the band on drums, Ben Cole, so it was like making our first record again, with new influences and new abilities. With a new person, we were able to feed off each other in different ways, and also revive some old ideas that did not click before. Taking those ideas, and then flipping them around, just like you do with an anagram. So I suppose there is some kind of clumsy poetry there." - more on this story

The Photo Atlas To Silently Provoke The Ghost In April
PR reports: The Photo Atlas are gearing up for their sophomore release To Silently Provoke The Ghost (available April 21st everywhere), produced by J. Robbins (Against Me!, Bayside, Jets To Brazil, Murder By Death, Mewithout You). The 5 track E.P. is filled with an array of aggressive indie dance punk beats, sonic styles and tempos, colored by personal and passionate lyrics. They create music naturally and instinctually, and as lead singer Alan Andrews says about the crafting of the E.P., "there was very little discussion when recording, we went into the studio and it was a silent progression. We were all on the same page and we are really looking forward to playing them live to get people moving."

The beauty behind The Photo Atlas (Alan Andrews - Vocals/Guitar - Mark Hawkins Bass - Bill Threlkeld III Guitar - Nick Miles -Drums) is the brotherhood that encompasses the band. The Denver based quintet has been playing together for 5 years now. It was this relationship that was the adhesive behind the massive sound on To Silently Provoke The Ghost.

Wynton Marsalis Sets March Release
PR reports: On March 24, Pulitzer Prize winning composer, trumpeter and bandleader Wynton Marsalis will release his fifth Blue Note recording, He and She. It's an ambitious effort, combining spoken word and music, and Marsalis has given his quintet some formidable charts. The album is tempered with flashes of humor and plenty of swing. There's ease and elegance and more than a little wisdom in these grooves.

He and She is about that eternally compelling and most elemental of subjects, the relationship between a man and a woman. Marsalis hasn't merely crafted a love story, but a life story - a bittersweet rumination about the evanescence of life as well as the elusiveness of romance. Time is very much at the heart of He and She: the swift passage of time over the course of one's life, the mood-altering shifts of time in the duration of a song. - more on this story

Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks Tour
PR reports: Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks announce the first leg of his U.S. tour to support his new studio album. Dan's latest CD, Tangled Tales (March 24, 2009 / Surfdog Records), is a brand-new collection of compelling and witty tunes that show why Tom Waits called him "fly, sly, wily, and dry!"

In vintage Dan Hicks form, Tangled Tales mashes the outlaw swing music, insightful charm, and brilliant melodies that have endeared him to audiences and fellow artists for four decades with his signature understated melancholy that could only be born from a creative genius.

Featuring a world-class collection of musical talent including instrumental virtuosos David Grisman, Charlie Musselwhite, and slide-guitarist Roy Rogers, and produced by Grammy-winning roots music producer Chris Goldsmith, Tangled Tales delivers 8 great new original tunes that feel like instant Dan Hicks classics (and some choice cover tunes too). - more on this story

Overblown Keel Announcement
BS reports: On Monday, January 26th, Ron Keel announced on "Eddie Trunk Live" on Sirius/XM radio that the Keel Reunion has been confirmed for a prime slot on the Rocklahoma 2009 Main Stage.

Keel the band that gave you "The Right To Rock" is back in action for their 25th Anniversary Reunion, performing and recording together for the first time in 20 years. Ron Keel, along with guitarists Marc Ferrari & Bryan Jay, drummer Dwain Miller, and bassist Geno Arce, will be delivering all the hits: "Because The Night," "Somebody's Waiting," "Rock N Roll Outlaw," "Tears Of Fire," and of course one of the defining anthems of 80's metal "The Right To Rock." [Were any of these song actually hits? And defining anthem of 80s metal? It was a minor blip on MTV at the time. The album peaked at 99 on the charts. Are we gonna hear next week how Aldo Nova changed the face of music forever?]

Keel also announced signing with one of hard rock's heaviest hitters Maryland-based CHAVIS RECORDS with plans to release a new KEEL CD by summertime. [gotta love a label that praises itself in a press release!] Label CEO - Bill Chavis - "Everyone at CR is beyond excitement about having KEEL join the family not to mention that Keel is undoubtedly one of the paramount pioneers of this genre of music. Being part of KEEL's 25th anniversary is electrifying!" [Paramount pioneers? He's talking about Keel right?] - more on this story
