Americans favorite television family is set for another seasons of bleeps and sibling battles. Thats right, it looks like The Osbournes will return to the MTV airwaves for another season, possible two.
The series, which chronicles the day-to-day life of heavy metal pioneer Ozzy Osbourne and his family has been a runaway smash hit, becoming the most watched series on cable television and has given MTV their highest ratings in the networks two decade history. The final episode of the first season is set to air this Tuesday (May 7) and fans are anxious for more. The good news is, it looks like they will get it.
When asked by Jay Leno last week if the show would return for another season, Sharon Osbourne threw up her arms and said, Yes. The family matriarch also told entertainment journal Variety, "A lot of thought went into this and we're happy that we're going to do another one, and that it's going to be with MTV. They've become a part of our family as we've become a part of theirs."
But The Osbournes willingness to put their life in a fishbowl for all to see wont come cheap. They have reportedly upped their asking price per episode from the $20,000 they received for the first season to a cool million per thirty-minute (about 21 minutes if you take all the commercials out) invasion. And the Osbournes are game for two more seasons that would bring their total pay to $20 million for the two 10 episode seasons.
The success of the Osbournes was not expected, while MTV thought the show would do well, they never expected it to take off the way it did. As for the Osbournes, they are the new media darlings, basking in the limelight, adorning magazine covers and making several television appearances, including unlikely spots on stations like CNBC, the financial cable network. It appears with their new pay raise, their business shrewdness is legitimate and you may see them on stations like CNBC again.
On the downside, fans have flooded to the Osbournes Bel Air home to catch a peek at cable televisions first family, which may be a deciding factor for the shows second season being filmed at the Osbournes home in England.
Well it looks as if American cant get enough of the Osbournes and the family seems willing to give them more.
