Matt Hires Dates with Tyrone Wells and Marc Broussard
antiMusic reports: Matt Hires is currently on tour with Tyrone Wells and has a few shows with Marc Broussard this week. He's out supporting his debut album. Here is a little background info on Matt and the album followed by the tour dates:

Just 23 years old singer/songwriter Matt Hires is the first artist signed to F-Stop Music, a new imprint label under Atlantic Records. The Tampa native released his debut album "Take Us To The Start"- which was produced by Eric Rosse (Sara Bareilles, Tori Amos) - exclusively through iTunes earlier this summer. The digital-only release hit the top 10 on iTunes' overall "Top Albums" chart, while also reaching the upper half of the Billboard 200. The album was officially released in stores on August 25th to advance critical praises.

Hires' is a prime example of TV placements being instrumental in promoting artists and their music. His song "Turn the Page" was featured on an episode of Grey's Anatomy last year, which prompted his EP "Live from The Hotel Caf" to jump into the Top 10 on the iTunes Singer-Songwriter chart. His music has also received placement on ABC's Private Practice and the trailer for the movie "The Boys Are Back." Most recently, Hires' song "Out Of The Dark" was featured on an episode of Grey's Anatomy on 10/22. Following the broadcast Hires' debut album "Take Us To The Start" jumped over 100 spots on the itunes album chart to #86- further proof that Hires' is creating music that people are reacting to. - more on this story

Meaghan Smith Announces U.S. Tour With Joe Purdy
PR reports: Acclaimed Canadian musician Meaghan Smith has just announced US tour dates with Joe Purdy in addition to her current Canadian tour with Chantal Kreviazuk. The songstress will also do a one-off show at New York's Rockwood Music Hall on Wednesday, December 2.

Smith's full-length debut, The Cricket's Orchestra (Sire Records), was released on October 6 exclusively at Barnes & Noble as well as digital retailers. The 11-track album was written in Smith's home of Halifax, Nova Scotia and was recorded in Toronto with help from producer Les Cooper. The Washington Post has already declared The Cricket's Orchestra as "one of the best finds of late '08."

The child of a piano-teacher mother and a bass-playing father, Smith devoured old musicals and animated films as a child and later fell in love with the jazz and big-band music of the '20s, '30s and '40s. Those early inspirations influenced the material featured on the album, as Smith says, "My music is modern vintage. The record incorporates a lot of instrumentation from older eras in the form of horns, strings and arrangements, but I also love DJs and their turntables." These modern influences are reflected on the record through the use of turntables, omnichords, melotrons and optigons. - more including dates
