Snoop
Vs Parents |
MTV reports: It's the biggest scandal to hit
Southern California Pee Wee football since, well, ever. Some parents in
Los Angeles are accusing Snoop Dogg of using his fame and a tricked-out
team bus to lure players to his new football league, which is threatening
to wipe out decades of youth football history in the area.
The peeved parents claim that because of
Snoop's star power, the once mighty Rowland High School football program
in Rowland Heights, California has dwindled, shrinking from nine squads
of 5-14 year olds to just three, while its formerly sturdy cheerleading
squad has atrophied from 80 girls to just nine, according to a Los Angeles
Times report. [see full story for more]- Click

Santana
Sued Over Guru |
AP reports: A former personal assistant to
Carlos Santana has filed a wrongful termination lawsuit against the veteran
rocker, claiming he was fired after his consciousness was calibrated and
determined to be too low.
Bruce Kuhlman, 59, charges that Santana's
wife, Deborah, brought in a man known as "Dr. Dan" so employees could grow
closer to God and become better workers.
"In Deborah's view, the higher a person
calibrated with Dr. Dan, the better employee they were because they were
more `spiritually evolved,'" the lawsuit said. [see full story for more]-

Ozzy
Drops Zakk? |
Day in Rock reports: (A Reader Submitted the
following story as a followup to a story from yesterday) In the August
issue of Penthouse, Ozzy Osbourne confessed to needing a new guitar player.
"I need someone cool who can play good guitar. I've had a couple guitar
players and they all play great, but the chemistry wasn't right. The chemistry
has to be right. It's like marrying a perso. It's great the first day you're
married, but you wake up two days later and go, "Why the fuck did I marry
you? You're ugly and I hate you!"
Though not included in the printed interview,
Ozzy went on to explain in the transcript how he loved playing with Zakk,
but now that Zakk has become so successful on his own, Ozzy is looking
to find "the next Zakk or Randy Rhodes."

Queen
of CBGB |
antiMusic reports: We're been hearing a lot
about the possible demise of the seminal New York music club CBGB these
days. Even our very own Trent McMartin wrote about the possible closing
of the legendary club in his "Lowdown" column last week. This week Trent
takes an even closer look at the historic venue with someone that has been
there since the very beginning, Deborah Olin, a New Yorker who was a regular
patron of CBGB when it was still called Hilly's on the Bowery. She attended
the club's very first shows becoming so well known and liked by CBGB employees
and musical guests that she has never paid to get in.
In the article Deborah reminisces about
the club's heyday and also discusses the state of CBGB now. Here is an
excerpt: Today Olin regards the current state of CBGB's as a shell of it's
former self. The club now relies more on its famous name and legendary
status rather than being an actual hub of cutting edge music.
"I also think it's like a cemetery and
over," Olin wrote when describing CBGB. "It's depressing to be there. It's
different."
Like Memphis in '54, Liverpool in '63 and
Seattle in '91, the New York punk scene was made up of people who shared
a common love of music and camaraderie. And as with many scenes, the New
York punk scene hit its peak and was soon followed after by a period of
decline and eventual burn out.
"It was very tribal, very close scene,
anyway the world ignored us we were a joke," Olin notes when describing
those days. "Now its Ramones on Pepsi commercials and Blondie for Doritos.
Now they noticed when its gone.. it's weird."
