Inside Gillan's Inn
antiMusic reports: Our very own Morley Seaver had the pleasure of speaking to living legend Ian Gillan about a variety of topics including the success of the latest Deep Purple album as well as how Ian's new solo project came about. If you've ever played air guitar to "Smoke on Water" this is one Morley View you do not want to miss! Below is just a sampling of this extensive new MorleyView but here is Ian discussing the genesis of Gillan's Inn.

"…I made a few phone calls and with a beginning of an idea, and sent a few email messages and I think within a day I got a reply from Joe Elliott and Tony Iommi and Joe Satriani and Jon Lord and all the guys in Purple. And they said, "Yeah count me in. I'd love to do it. Brilliant." So we then changed the entire concept around. And I had this imaginary pub called Gillan's Inn, and you walk in and it's a free bar and there's a stage bar with all the equipment set up and all our mates are there and we just get up and have a jam and each one gets up and plays for 3or 4 songs and we all mix up amongst each other. And so of course it all turns into this most amazing thing because I'm suddenly trying to select the material and I'm going well if Tony Iommi's coming We've got to do "Trashed" which is the opening track on the Born Again album. And I said, "This is perfect because I have Tony Iommi, Ian Paice and Roger Glover all together, which is what we did. Sounds awesome. Similar thing. "When a Blind Man Cries". I really wanted Jon Lord play the Hammond solo on that one because it's very much him. Now who could we get who is not on the list already, that's got a nice blues touch. And my producer says "What about that Jeff Healey." Bloody brilliant…." [there is a lot more to this story, so click on over to read it all plus a lot more] - Click Here for the Full Story

Trew Thieves
Red Music reports: It's not very often that the title track of an album doesn't make the final cut. However, that was the case with the song Den Of Thieves. The tune has been a fan favourite at live shows for the past year but the studio version has never seen the light of day...until now.

As a thank you to all of the Canadian fans who have supported the The Trews, and as an introduction to the band's new fans south of the border, the unreleased studio version of 'Den Of Thieves' will be available as a free download from www.thetrewsmusic.com & the band's MySpace page- Click Here for the Full Story

A Different Vine
Day in Rock reports: I have a theory that the people that dismissed The Vines in the same breath as The Strokes have only heard the singles and missed about 90% of what this group has to offer with a style that ranges from the raucous rockers they are best known for but also for Beatlesq mastery when they take things in a totally different direction. (Seek out "In The Jungle," "Country Yards" and "Factory" from their debut to hear just how diverse they really are). Back to the point of this post, you can hear yet another side of the band at the full story link where they perform the song "Going Gone" live and unplugged. No screaming here folks and this band is definitely not a one stroke pony!- Click Here for the Full Story

Cretin Debut
Relapse reports: CRETIN have unveiled their first full-length album! CRETIN’s Freakery hit stores today, April 18, 2006.

Exalting all that's perverted and aggressively imbecilic, CRETIN (featuring current and former members of REPULSION and EXHUMED) combine blasting proto-grindcore and congenitally deformed death metal in an inbred sonic ambush that turns back the clock and grinds like it's 1989. Freakery sodomizes the senses with a lo-fi grind aesthetic, and begs you to enter the strange, freakish world of CRETIN. An e-card previewing Freakery can be viewed at the full story link.- Click Here for the Full Story

Highway 10 Blues
Press Release reports: Lunaticworks Jazz will release Highway 10 Blues, the new album from Cordovan. Cordovan is Los Angeles producer/composer/bassist Greg Reeves, who, as Cordovan, focuses on jazz-influenced groove material, with elements of modern downtempo, broken beat, and ambient styles and a respectful nod to Miles Davis, Gil Evans, Charles Mingus, and others.

With Highway 10 Blues, the first disc from the newly-launched Lunaticworks Jazz imprint, Reeves set out to make an album capturing the vibe of long drives through the desert, the big open spaces, the earth tones, and also some of the neon and glitter. Instead of going for heavy upfront beats or a dance sensibility, the set floats and cruises, with melody and mood in the foreground. The album evolves out of Reeves’ journey through rock, reggae, jazz, and dance as he travels the road between jazz (“Jackpot”) and nu-jazz (“Pretend Gems”): a place where thematic melodies merge with challenging harmonics and a chilled vibe.[see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Who the Hell are The Ks?
Press Release reports: Local rock band The Ks has officially announced their presence on this planet, in a bid for some larger recognition. They justify the blatantly promotional nature of this news release with the high quality of their work.

The band announced their existence at a packed and raucous press conference held at Woody McHale's Bar & Grill. The event was called Charm Offensive I. Clearly intrigued members of the entertainment press grilled members of the band regarding their style and creative intentions; the band replied with cryptic and cagey answers but promised more information in an ongoing promotion, Charm Offensive I being the first salvo, to be known as Hype Offensive I. The band will coin a new music genre name to fit their unique sound and write an entertainment manifesto, in addition to making more mysterious announcements. The press will have to wait and see.
