Undercover Spy

(Skye Media) The four-piece, Atlanta-based SPY have opted to go both covert and widespread. Witness their release plans for their self-titled album, which is currently available for sale at select cool record stores (on white vinyl no less) -- pretty covert in the not-many-turntables-around-anymore world of today), pressed and released by their own label, Deathray Records. And then they went the widespread route by turning around and releasing the album on their website, for anyone to download. For free. This makes SPY part of a growing trend of bands (others doing this recently include Arctic Monkeys, Harvey Danger, The Chemical Brothers, Bravecaptain, and the GoKart Records label) who are putting their music out there online for folks to snap up at no cost, with the thought that people who love their music will spread the word about them in an organic, grass-roots manner.
