All American Rejects Hiatus
SMN reports: The ALL AMERICAN REJECTS have announced plans to take a break for at least a year after they wrap up their current touring schedule with plans to focus on their 'metal' side-project THESE ENZYMES. The band reported this to Billboard:

"I think its gonna be another year before anybody hears from us again. I think the world needs to take a breath away from the All-American Rejects, I think people make mistakes by coming back too quick.[see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Drinking Olympics
SMN reports: Eager to take a Gold Medal home for his native Denmark in a competition that will begin on January 4th, 2007 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and close on February 21st in Montreal, Québec, MNEMIC guitarist Mircea shares:

"We are super excited to be sharing the road with our good & crazy buddies in God Forbid! We toured the U.S. together last year with Meshuggah and instantly became friends after some heavy partyin'. We all know that [God Forbid drummer] Cory's liver is going to save the day for all of us! Furthermore, we are also looking forward to be hooking up with all the bands on this tour to crush the American soil and bring a very diverse and heavy package to all of you boys and girls that are fed up with the typical, pre-fabricated, mall-core bullshit that rules the planet these days. 2007 will be the year of the Passenger for MNEMIC, and YOUR destination will be HELL if you don't show up!" Cold War Kids on the Coasts
PR reports: It's commonly understood that January is the most depressing month of the year. TV newscasters and NPR reports seem to add to the pain by consistently beating us down with facts and figures about hours of darkness, credit card bills and the back-to-work blues. It's quite easy to pull the blankets up and refuse to leave the house. Lucky for us Cold War Kids have hatched a plan to make this January 2007 a brighter place. For those of us who live in New York City or Los Angeles, at least. The Orange County-based band plan to perform a unique series of NYC and LA shows, playing each Wednesday night in NYC and each Friday night in Los Angeles.

Just prior to this very special tour the band will make their network television debut on December 21st when they appear The Late Show With David Letterman to perform a song from their much lauded debut album robbers & cowards.[see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Scum Art
PR reports: Renowned U.K. concept artist Paul Garner has been selected to create the cover art for SCUM OF THE EARTH's upcoming second release, tentatively entitled "SLEAZE FREAK". Paul's probably best known for his work on everything from tattoo & t-shirt design to movie/music magazine illustration to giant murals & sideshow banners, and co-designing, producing and directing the Gawkagogo Bizarre Cabaret & Theatre shows throughout London and the UK. He's also worked with Richard O' Brien (Rocky Horror Picture Show) and Clive Barker. Paul's style peers behind the curtain of a sinister sideshow underworld where cartoon geeks, zombie kids, and unspeakable things from the slab mingle menacingly with the ones that the Scooby Doo gang let get away.

When Riggs was asked about his decision to work with Paul, he said "He's an amazing artist, I thought his artwork looked real sleazy, trashy and basically seemed like a visual embodyment of what this album's all about... sleaze, filth, depraivety, and the dark perversion of the world. The red light district in Amsterdam, has this vibe... in my opinion, it's like the Disneyland of the Universe, and Sleaze Freak will be our attempt to bring that vibe to the fans, through the music and the art. There might be some other artists as well..."- Click Here for the Full Story

Voivod Update
PR reports: VOIVOD drummer Michel "Away" Langevin has issued an update on the band's current activities: 'To All Voivodians: A video for "The Getaway" has just been completed and submitted to all national and regional cable outlets such as MTV2, FUSE, etc. The footage was pulled from the 2003 American tours and the 2006 recording sessions of Katorz (THE END RECORDS). Currently we are working on a video for "Polaroids" with Banger Productions (Metal: A Headbangers Journey) and then we will follow that up with a video for "The X-Stream." I am still hard at work on the re-issues (due out on THE END RECORDS next year). We will start with the Sanctuary ones (Rrroooaaarrr, Dimension Hatross and Killing Technology). Each album will be remastered and will come with a bonus Iron Gang DVD. The pre-production for the follow-up to Katorz will start this winter. Also, we are still trying to coordinate a tribute show for 2007.- Click Here for the Full Story

Mark Newman's Pony Songs
PR reports: Mark Newman plays a mean slide guitar, sings his heart out and writes the kind of songs that resonate with universal longing. His Must Be A Pony debut (Danal Music), released today, features 13 originals by Newman and some of his friends (including Sam The Sham) plus a vaguely disquieting yet profoundly effective cover version of Barry and Robin Gibb's 1967 hit "New York Mining Disaster 1941."

With a shifting cast of musicians-including Steve Holley (ex-Wings) on percussion and Anton Fig (David Letterman Band) on drums-Newman creates musical environments that surround his poetic lyrics in tasty soundscape vistas that accentuate but never intimidate his message, mainly that no matter how cynical the adult in one gets, the answer lies in attempting to rediscover the unbridled optimism of childhood. Blackmore's Night Top 10
PR reports: Winter Carols (Locomotive) by Blackmore's Night-the eclectic mostly-acoustic project led by legendary lead guitarist Ritchie Blackmore with vocalist Candice Night-entered Billboard's "Top New Age Albums" chart at #7 on November 25, 2006

The album, a holiday collection of Christmas cheer, features 12 joyous tracks by the seven-piece band led by the vocal stylings of Night, who has been compared to Stevie Nicks crossed with Karen Carpenter. A huge draw on the national renaissance fair circuit, Night's charisma and unerring transformation into a "Fairy Princess" transcends cultural as well as musical boundaries. - Click Here for the Full Story

Andy Winter Checks In
The End reports: Andy Winter (Winds, Age of Silence) has posted an extensive year-end summary on the official Winds forum: Winds are still working on the new album. Andy says they have now sifted through the "terra-quads of music" that was recorded, and the guitars, drums and vocals for the album are now finalized. He plans to re-record his piano parts before taking the album to mix some time in the spring. The possibility of an additional guest appearance on the forthcoming Winds album by Dan Swanö has been discussed. Dan's performance on two songs has already been confirmed, and the possibility for a third song is, according to Andy, "definitely a possibility" at this point.

Andy mentions that Age of Silence wants to record the new album soon, but will have to wait until Winds is finished before they can pursue that avenue. As previously announced, the songwriting for the new upcoming Age of Silence CD has been completed for quite some time, so it is just a matter of finding time for recording.
