Recap of top stories for 2006: Oct - Dec

Instead of just taking our usual Christmas break off and leaving you hanging until the 27th, we figured we'd use these "off" days to recap the most popular stories of the year. These were the most read individual stories from each month.  We'll see you back with the regular Day in Rock report when we return tomorrow (Wed 12/27)

Original Van Halen Reunion

KNAC reports: MelodicRock.com has issued the following report: "No more teasing. Never tease where Van Halen is concerned... I have information from a highly placed source that Van Halen will likely tour in 2007 with David Lee Roth as frontman. 

Negotiations are currently underway to re-unite Van Halen with their original frontman for a tour in 2007 that will take in America and possibly other territories. While nothing in the world of Van Halen is set until the band walk out on stage, I can confirm that negotiations between all parties have been underway for some time, trying to put together a big 2007 reunion tour.[see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story 

Snoop Arrested

The rapper, whose real name is Calvin Broadus, has been arrested at 3:45pm on Thursday at Bob Hope Airport, police said. Snoop Dogg posted $35 000 (about R260 000) bail and was scheduled to appear in court December 12.

Airport police officers stopped Snoop Dogg at a loading zone for a vehicle code violation. When officers searched the vehicle they found a gun and marijuana, police said.[see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story 

Dio Sabbath Reunion

The threesome have joined forces with vocalist Ronnie James Dio, who sang in the band during two stints in the 1980s and 1990s after Osbourne was ousted for his prodigious drug abuse, but will bill themselves as "Heaven and Hell." 

Lest anyone think that Osbourne has been ostracized again, representatives for the so-called "Prince of Darkness" issued a separate statement, announcing "there is only one Black Sabbath," and that he would join forces with his old Birmingham buddies for a tour and new album late next year.[see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Green Day Thieves?

punkbands reports: Paul McPike, a 32 year old grocery store clerk has filed a copyright infringement complaint in a U.S. district court where he claims, according to Oregon's Mail Tribune, "he composed both the lyrics and melodies" of Green Day's hit album, American Idiot in early 1992. A magistrate judge moved to dismiss the complaint after McPike, who's representing himself, could only produce as evidence a copy of Green Day's album and his claim that "the words lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong sings don't exactly match those printed on the album's cover."

According to the article, McPike "theorizes that a friend must have recorded a cassette of him singing at home and somehow that recording reached Green Day." He says he sung the song for classmates at an alternative school back in 1992.[see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story 

Cobain Tops Elvis

The list, published on Tuesday, said grunge rocker Cobain earned $50 million between October 2005 and October 2006. Presley wound up in the No. 2 slot with $42 million, down from last year's $45 million.[see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

During a taped episode of "Monday Night RAW" last week in Los Angeles, Federline made a surprise appearance in the ring and received a chorus of boos from the sold-out crowd at the Staples Center. RockStars Fired

With a tour scheduled to begin on New Year's Eve in Vegas, the bill's opening act was to include The Panic Channel, host Dave Navarro's latest band, as well as, fellow contestants Toby Rand, Dilana, Magni, Storm Large and the program's House Band. 

But now TMZ has learned that due to financial reasons Magni, Storm Large and the House Band have been kicked off the tour. Toby and Dilana are still on board (thank God!), but will now be backed by Toby Rand's Australian group Juke Kartel. Evs! "i'd been playing with a broken arm for 3 weeks and or possible tumor in my arm. Britney Sex Tape Blackmail

Nobody really knows if a Britney Spears sex tape even exists; a court case was meant to settle it once and for all, but it sort of backfired because the judge thought Britney Spears was a slapper, or something. But now reports are suggesting that Britney Spears' soon-to-be divorced husband Kevin Federline has a copy of a four-hour Britney Spears sex tape, and he's apparently going to sell it for millions of pounds unless Britney gives him custody of their kids. Although why anyone would want to watch Britney Spears have sex with Kevin Federline for four hours when they could watch her 2002 masterpiece Crossroads twice in a row is beyond us, right? Right? As for money, sources tell TMZ the couple, who married in Sept. 2004, has an iron-clad prenup. Not surprisingly, Spears is waiving her right to spousal support. She's also asking the judge to make each party pay their own attorney's fees. 

Spears gives the date of separation as yesterday, the same day she flaunted her incredible revamped physique during a surprise appearance on David Letterman's show. Axl Sets GNR Release Date, It's official

"In the end, it's just an album, but it's one that I, the band, our record company and all involved believe and feel is a true Guns N' Roses album," said Axl in his statement. "Ultimately the public will decide, and regardless of the outcome, our hearts, lives and our passion has been put into this project every step of the way. If for no other reason, we feel those elements alone merit your consideration. We do hope you can hold on just a bit longer, and if not, please take a break and we'll be more than glad -- if you so choose -- to see you again later."

Phish Drug Bust

Anastasio was driving with a suspended driver's license and police found several prescription medications in his possession including Hydrocodone, Percocet and Xanax. Police told the local media that the prescriptions were in another person's name. 

Anastasio was charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, and driving under the influence of drugs. He was ticketed and released. - Click Here for the Full Story

Author Everett True is an old frind of Cobains and revealed that Love and Cobain had a nasty fight, which resulted in him calling his lawyer.
