Zappa Plays Zappa Tour
PR reports: Zappa Plays Zappa, the concert experience that brings the music of the late Frank Zappa to the stage, under the direction of Dweezil Zappa, will this summer again embark on a North American tour. The tour starts July 18 at Winnipeg's Centennial Hall with a total of 30 performance dates set for the tour's first leg which concludes in Los Angeles at the end of August. Following a break, Zappa Plays Zappa embarks on a 17 city European tour including dates in the UK, Netherlands, Switzerland, Germany, France, Belgium, Denmark, Norway and Sweden.

In concept and performance, Zappa Plays Zappa offers audiences an opportunity to spend an evening with Frank Zappa's music, performed meticulously by a group of top flight musicians who have been schooled in its subtleties. Far from a "tribute band," Zappa Plays Zappa is more of a vehicle that underscores the compositional genius of Frank Zappa much as a symphony orchestra would perform pieces by a master composer. Nate Chenen, writing about Zappa Plays Zappa in the New York Times recognized this when he wrote that the show fully realized Dweezil's intent for it to be "an argument for Frank Zappa's legitimacy as a composer."[see full story for band line up info and dates]- Click Here for the Full Story

The Swear Recruit Fugazi Producer
PR reports: This June, Atlanta's The Swear will record with legendary producer Ted Niceley. Ted's work with Fugazi rocketed him to prominence in the late '80s/early '90s and helped launch the alternative rock revolution as well as lay the groundwork for today's emo/hardcore scene. His status as a seminal figure was solidified with productions for artists such as Jawbox, Shudder to Think and Quicksand. His production of the Future Kings of Spain won the 2004 Meteor Prize. Ted has also produced Girls Against Boys, Sparklehorse, Tracy Bonham, Frente!, Dead Milkmen and Tripping Daisy. These new recordings will be a part of The Swear's second album, set for release in fall 2007. The band has already tracked three songs for the record with producer Jeff Tomei (Smashing Pumpkins, Jerry Cantrell).

The album will be mixed by Girls Against Boys' Eli Janney, known for his recent work on albums by Garbage and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah!. Listen online at http://www.myspace.com/theswear. Preview tracks from the Niceley recordings will be available in July.- Click Here for the Full Story

Laurie Anderson Reissue
PR reports: In the early 1980s Laurie Anderson was already respected as a conceptual artist and composer and as a familiar figure in the cross-pollinating, Lower Manhattan music-visual art-performance circles from which Philip Glass and David Byrne also emerged. At the time of its original release, the NME wrote of Big Science, "There's a dream-like, subconscious quality about her song which helps them work at deeper, secret levels of the psyche." With instrumentation ranging from tape loops to found sounds to bag pipes, Big Science anticipated the tech-savvy beats, anything-goes instrumentation and sample-based nature of much of the contemporary electronic and dance music that followed over the past 25 years.

The re-mastered 25th anniversary enhanced edition includes liner notes written by Anderson, the classic video for the surprise 1981 hit single "O Superman", and the original B-side track "Walk the Dog". It will hit stores on July 17th[see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Gwar's Summer Plans
PR reports: With theatrical rock decidedly back en vogue (just check Headbanger's Ball' and metal publications for the proof), it's fitting that this year's edition of the Sounds of the Underground Tour will feature one of metal's all-time most over-the-top theatrical bands, Gwar. Having already performed as part of the tour on two previous editions, this year's SOTU line-up sees the masked monsters headlining the entire festival resulting in the full-on Gwar experience.

"Gwar will be playing in the dark which is great, we'll have the full light show, a longer set, and close the day's festivities," explains Gwar frontman, Oderus Urungus. "This year, we've been playing almost exclusively songs from the new album, and for the Sounds of the Underground Tour, we're going to go back into our catalog a bit play some of the stuff from the earlier albums. It'll be the ultimate Gwar show everything's that's cool about what Gwar is doing nowadays, but also taking elements out of our past. If you've never seen Gwar before, you'll be able to walk away from the show pretty much understanding what the deal is."[see full story for more including dates]- Click Here for the Full Story

Danny Ross Release Party
PR reports: It was just another Monday night for Danny Ross. Happily crooning Beatles-like melodies, arranging electric guitars with piano, and locking in the drums and bass, Ross was preparing his band for a summer tour of beer-drenched music clubs across New York City. By the time he left the sweaty rehearsal space in Brooklyn, his voice was shot and ears were ringing. Still, back in his downtown apartment, Ross planned to blog on his website, run piano scales and jot down lyric ideas before calling it a night.

But from nine to five, Danny Ross lives a very different life. As a staffer for United States Congressman Jerrold Nadler, you would hardly recognize the twenty-two year old singer-songwriter from Long Island. Sorting through invitations, maintaining the Representative's schedule and coordinating the office operations in a clean shirt and tie, Danny Ross is your tax money at work.

Ross describes his music as "piano-pop rocked out. Think Ben Folds meets rock n roll." Self-taught on piano, he's also an expressive singer, guitarist and disciplined songwriter. With more than 10,000 MySpace plays, and on the verge of releasing his first album, Introducing Danny Ross!, the young musician plans to celebrate with a Record Release Show on Saturday, June 30 th 8PM at The Bitter End in Manhattan's West Village. You'll be sure to find congressional staffers singing along. - Click Here for the Full Story
