Common Terminator, My SNL Jacket- King Mellencamp Musical Delay- Martha Reeves Robbed- Sellout Buzz- NKOTB- Harp Editors Return- Secret Neil Diamond Show
antiMusic reports: Welcome to morning quicks to this "hump" day. So far no teen pop stars making dirty pictures to report on but some interesting rumblings in the music world. We start with a bit of advise from MMJ's publicist: Cancel your plans or set your Tivos because My Morning Jacket is the musical guest on Saturday Night Live this Saturday, May 10th. Their new album, "Evil Urges," is out June 10th.

Billboard dropped this bomb about the new Terminator movie: "Rapper Common has been tapped to star in the upcoming fourth installment of the 'Terminator' series, 'Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins.' The Chicago MC will play a freedom fighter named Barnes who is defending the human race against a machine that aims to destroy it." Batman is going to be his sidekick. We're not kidding!

AP has a couple shocking stories: A musical by John Mellencamp and Stephen King, scheduled to be produced next season in Atlanta, has been postponed .The Alliance announced in February that "Ghost Brothers of Darkland County," with music by Mellencamp and a book by horror master Stephen King, would open in April 2009, with the object of preparing it for a Broadway run. The Alliance notified subscribers on Monday that the project has been delayed. Members of the creative team "realized the script would not be ready by spring 2009," the statement said.more

Detroit City Council member and ex-Motown star Martha Reeves says thieves broke into her childhood home and stole about $1 million worth of uninsured recording equipment.
Reeves says speakers, microphones and karaoke machines were among the items taken Sunday night. She says the backdoor of the house on Detroit's east side was kicked in.more

On the corporate front: Apparently Buzznet has gobbled up another site. That major label money is coming in real handy. So the latest site acquired is Absolutepunk.net. The founder of the site says that the new owners won't have any influence over them editorially. Guess we'll see. more

If you haven't heard, New Kids On The Block have decided to reunite. They've just released a sample of their first new single, "Summertime," which is set for a digital release on May 13th 2008. But here is a sample of the track so you can judge if they have the right stuff or should have stayed off the block.

Scott Crawford, founder of HARP, along with Managing Editor Fred Mills and Senior Editor Randy Harward, will unveil BLURT digital magazine and the accompanying BLURT-online website in June. "While the print world continues to struggle, launching a magazine in this format allows us to explore the music community just as comprehensively but without many of the handicaps that burdened HARP," says Editor-in-Chief Scott Crawford. "It's a new world out there, but creatively, I've never been more excited about the possibilities." The digi-mag will be hosted at Blurt-online.com Welcome to the 21st century.

You wouldn't think it but we apparently have a lot readers that are fans of Neil Diamond. So here is some "not so secret" news for them: Neil will perform at a special free MySpace Secret Show, Wednesday, May 7th at New York City's The Bitter End exclusively for the MySpace community. For more information about this show visit the official - MySpace Secret Shows profile

Disturbed Posers?
Rockdirt reports: A member of Dillinger Escape Plan basically says that Disturbed are posers. He's seen it with his own eyes. Rockdirt has the story: Dillinger Escape Plan guitarist Ben Weinman spoke with Australia's Beat magazine about how astonished the band was after seeing Disturbed soundchecking before a show in England.

Weinman said that the Chicago rockers were "practicing where they were going to walk and when they were going to put their leg up on the monitor and pose. That was weird for us. There are times where I don't even know where I am."

Regarding that on-stage mayhem, Weinman said, "We've always been a band that has an element of unpredictability. At the same time, there's a lot of people who think our music is just noise. But everything we do has a purpose and has a meaning." - more Rockdirt

Rant: The Best Congress That The RIAA's Money Can Buy
antiTorial reports: The U.S. faces a lot of tough problems right now: skyrocketing fuel and food prices, rampant illegal immigration, an unprecedented housing and credit crisis and a looming meltdown in Social Security and Medicare. So what do the idiots in Congress do? They focus their attention on passing a law (for their deep pocketed friends in the entertainment industry) that will create a new executive branch officer to deal with intellectual property rights issues. Not to say that IP issues aren't important, but do we need Big Brother expanding his reach on issues like this, when there are real issues to deal with? Then again, Congress seldom deals with real issues because they aren't PAID to. (see the last paragraph for more on that).

Billboard has the details in a story they posted Tuesday afternoon: "The U.S. House of Representatives has just passed, under suspension of House rules, the Prioritizing Resources and Organization for Intellectual Property (PRO IP) Act. An official quorum vote is expected on the House floor this evening. Introduced by House Judiciary Committee chairman John Conyers Jr.* last December, the Act (H.R. 4279) would create the office of a U.S. Intellectual Property Enforcement Representative in the White House to represent and advise the president on IP issues. The representative would produce a national joint strategic plan to protect and enforce IP rights, and would be responsible for seeing its implementation by various government agencies."

Incidentally, I decided to take a look at OpenSecrets.org and found that the "TV/Movies/Music" industry were the second largest industry group to make donations to Conyers. The best Congress money can buy! Conyers isn't alone, the "TV/Movies/Music" industry are the 9th biggest campaign contributors so far in the 2008 election cycle. To put that in perspective: Oil and Gas are the 16th and Pharmaceutical /Health Products are the 17th. The entertainment industry even buys more politicians than lobbyists (who are 12th.) This is why we need to vote every last incumbent out of office. Not just this year, but in every election. Party doesn't matter, get rid of them in the primaries if you have to stick to party loyalty. But this craziness needs to stop. They aren't doing the people's business, they're just doing business. Let's send real citizens to Congress and see if that works better. Yes, that's a pipe dream, but it's better than the nightmare we have now. I'm done ranting now. - Keavin - Read more about Big Brother's foray into the entertainment business with the full Billboard story.

Elvis Costello Listening Party
antiMusic reports: Need a little mid week pick me up? A dose of Elvis Costello is in order. One new song would be cool, but five is even better. First a little about where the tracks come from: Elvis Costello And The Imposters are following up the April 22nd vinyl release of their new album 'Momofuku' with the official CD issue from Lost Highway Records.

'Momofuku' was originally inspired by an invitation received by Mr. Costello to sing on Jenny Lewis's upcoming record, featuring his long-time bassist, and what followed was just one week of recording and mixing, producing a record that recalls early Costello in the best ways possible.

Preview some of the tracks, and pick it up. It hit stores yesterday: No Hiding Place - American Gangster Time - Turpentine - Flutter and Wow - Go Away
