The Rakes Breakup
PR reports: The Rakes have announced they are to split with immediate effect. The band who formed in 2002, came together as a foursome of childhood friends and kindred sprits and went on to release three critically acclaimed albums; the first Capture/Release in 2005, followed by Ten New Messages in 2007 and Klang (2009). Both the October UK tour and American dates are cancelled and full refunds will be given to ticket holders.

A statement from the band reads: "The Rakes have always been very adamant and proud of the fact that we give 100% to every gig we've ever played. If we can't give it everything then we won't do it. That was the rule we set ourselves from day one.

After much deliberation we have come to the shared conclusion that we can't give it 100% anymore and regret to announce that The Rakes are calling it a day. We are sorry to let down all the people who were coming to see us on the UK & US tours. Writing your own obituary is a surreal thing to do but we want to give particular thanks to our much-loved fans, all the great people we've worked with over the years, our management and loyal record label. We feel privileged to have had the opportunity to write music together and perform around the world. Genuinely, thanks for the good times.... That was one hell of a party! But now, we really must get some sleep. - more on this story

PR reports: Municipal Waste have announced that The Accused will not be taking part in the Waste The World Tour 2009 as their singer Brad Mowen has to have emergency surgery. Not to worry though the Waste have announced a replacement for The Accused. Minneapolis' Off With Their Heads will join the tour on November 18th December 2nd and will be providing direct support for Municipal Waste.

Singer Tony Foresta had the following to say about the line-up change for the tour, "We're pretty bummed about the Accused canceling I really hope Brad gets better. But now The WASTE is really excited to announce our newest addition to our North American tour, Off With Their Heads. These guys are one of my personal favorites and I feel are one of the best punk bands to come out of the states for a long while. We've been listening to these guys in the WASTE van for some time and we are really glad they agreed to "stick out like a sore thumb" on our metal tour. It should be a lot of fun!

Following their round of European festival appearances and their Massive Aggressive European tour this September, Municipal Waste will be seeing out the year with a North American trek, then having a few weeks rest before kicking off the European leg of their tour in mid-January. Support on the North American leg of the tour will come from Goatwhore (11/06 TO 11/16), Off With Their Heads (11/18 To 12/02), Brutal Truth (12/4 To 12/11), Phobia & Cauldron, with Victims and Reproach supporting the band in Europe.

Brimstone Howl Announce Album Release With Free MP3
PR reports: Brimstone Howl To Release Fourth Full-Length Big Deal. What's He Done Lately? November 24th On Alive Records. This time the gang went to Costa Mesa, CA, to record Big Deal. What's He Done Lately? (the title references a quote from Johnny Ramone about Phil Spector) at The Distillery under the guidance of engineer/producer Mike McHugh (known to produce some of the most heinous, blown-out sounds this side of the galaxy, including Black Lips, Jon Spencer and Andre Williams). The result is considerably more fuzzed than their previous work with Detroit producer Jim Diamond but still pummels.

Frontman John Ziegler admits that Big Deal is thematically "a little brighter" than previous efforts, but also explains, "While our last record We Came In Peace sounded 'big,' the main characteristic of this album is its heat. Analog from start to finish. Recorded to tape. Mixed to tape. And from tape the wax was cut. This record sounds 'hot'."

The new album - Brimstone Howl's third for Alive Records - finds a couple of older songs (such as "Elation" and "M60" rerecorded from their debut album and first 45) riding shotgun with newer explosive tracks such as "Last Time," "Everybody Else Is Having Fun," "Iota Man" and "Suicide Blues." "Musically, our instincts remain the same as always," Ziegler states, "but we do more pop sounding things at times, with as much drama as we can fit into our rock'n'roll template. I get the feeling that's out of style or going out, even within our own little community of garage folks, but we're from the Midwest and we can't f**k around and waste our time singing songs that aren't fully sincere. We've been doing music for it's own sake for a long time now, none of us have made rent money from this, for whatever that's worth. We have music in our hearts, goddamn it, and we always will. That will always remain the most important thing in this industry, and whatever corner of it we inhabit."

Prosthetic Ink Mantric
PR reports: Prosthetic Records is proud to announce the signing of Mantric to the label for a worldwide, multi-album deal. Formed in 2007 in Oslo, Norway from the ashes of metal pioneers Extol, Mantric takes the visionary songwriting approach of its founding members to new, epic heights.

Commenting on the signing, Mantric said in a joint statement: "We are truly satisfied to end up signing with Prosthetic! Art Vs Science Want To Melt Your Mind With Free MP3
PR reports: Art vs Science isn't here to get a haircut. They're here to melt your mind! They're also here to remind us that creating dance music is not just about bass-blowing electro-rock anthems (of which they have many); rather it's about taking those songs and in a live forum setting everyone's fire-retardant dancing kicks ablaze. If you walk away from an Art vs Science live show without an altered gait and/ or state-of-mind, you were clearly not paying attention.

Art vs Science's self-titled EP will core-drill itself into you mind and possess it with its hooky take on rock-infused, French electronica.

In their native country of Australia, the EP has already garnered them a 2009 ARIA Award (think Grammy) nomination in the Breakthrough Artist category. The first of the EP's singles to be offered up as a FREE MP3 download is the criminally infectious, Parlez-Vous Francais? - available here:
