On this day in 1954, working together for the first time in a recording studio with Scotty Moore and Bill Black, Elvis Presley fooled around during a break with an up-tempo version of "That's All Right." Producer Sam Phillips has them repeat the jam and recorded it. It became Presley's first release on Sun Records.

On this day in 1969, The Rolling Stones gave a free concert in London's Hyde Park before an audience of 250,000, as a tribute to Brian Jones who had died two days earlier. Mick Jagger read an extract from Percy Bysshe Shelley's Adonais and released 3,500 butterflie. It was also guitarist Mick Taylor's debut with the Stones. King Crimson, Family, The Third Ear Band, Screw and Alexis Korner's New Church also appeared on the day.

As usual, nothing from VH itself, as their website hasn't been updated since December of 2009. Shameful for a band of this stature to have such a poor online presence, but let's hope someone gets hired to work on the site before the new album comes out.

"We were going to play the Anti Nowhere League song So What, and I'd rehearsed it. But they changed it to Am I Evil at the last minute and I decided not to do it," Slayer axeman King explains. "I haven't thought about that songs for two months since we played it in California."

The Foos teamed up with Alice for two of his classics � "School's Out" and "I'm Eighteen" � in front of 65,000 fans at the UK venue.

Frontman John Lydon (a.k.a. Johnny Rotten of the Sex Pistols) said that PiL are in a studio that is "in the outskirts of nowhere."

On the 40th anniversary of Jim Morrison's passing, The Doors marked the occasion themselves by making their own pilgrimage to their lead singer's grave at Pere Lachaise cemetery in Paris on Sunday.

For the album, his first since 2004's I'm a Blues Man, Winter has put together quite the lineup � Sonny Landreth, Derek Trucks, Susan Tedeschi, John Medeski, Vince Gill, Warren Haynes, John Popper, Jimmy Vivino and Johnny's brother Edgar Winter contribute their talents. The album's focus is on the songs that inspired Winter in his 42-year career.

"Every song I loved � they're all big influences on me," Winter said. "It's way past time for me [to record an album like this]."

The dates are in support of their 'Best of' collection entitled 'Made in Germany' which is due for release in September.

He's also stated he plans to re-record the second Vinnie Vincent Invasion album, All Systems Go, because he always hated the version which was released.

In light of the terrible tragedies that have recently taken place in the country, Aerosmith are excited to return to play for some of their biggest and most dedicated fans. The band first toured Japan in 1977 and, this year, the Boston rockers are set to play throughout the country, including Tokyo, Osaka and Sapporo.

The project is called Onslaught: The Sanity Days and also features singer Steve Grimmett, who sang on the album, plus guitarist Alan Jordan from 2007′s Killing Peace and bassist Jase Stallard from the 1980s.

"Well there are a few huge differences [between this album and the last]," bassist Flea told Stereogum. "The number one difference is John Frusciante left the band, and he was a huge part of our creative process for a long time. I'm so grateful for him. He wrote the principal parts for many of our most popular songs, and the parts for many of our most artistically profound songs, which weren't necessarily popular. He just gave us so much as a songwriter, as a player, as a human being, and just his relationship to music, which is such a beautiful and pure and powerful one."

Cocker explained the books: "When [Pulp's lyrics] were reproduced on the record sleeves, it always used to say 'N.B. please do not read the words while listening to the recordings.' But I've accumulated a certain amount of work now and I think a lot of the appeal is that Faber have published a lot of poets I like. The idea that I could be allowed on the same shelf is very flattering. So I went back and looked at the words, and with that passage of time I realized some of them were alright."

Barker was outside Zulu Tattoo in L.A. last week ... when he told us, "Where I got burned ... I started finishing some of the tattoos that got burned off."

As TMZ reported, Barker and DJ AM were the only two survivors of the 2008 plane crash -- when a private jet they were on blew a tire while taking off, lost control and crashed into an embankment. The plane burst into flames ... and four people were killed.

Months after the crash, Barker played a show in Vegas without a shirt -- revealing serious burn scars to his entire back.

Kataklysm will make an appearance at the famous Wacken Open Air this August. The band will also perform and headline Brutal Assault festival in Czech Republic, Metal Mean Open Air in Belgium and the 20th anniversary show at the Summer Breeze Open Air in Germany to an already sold out 30,000 + fans!

In the meantime, the band will self release a new 2-song 7" record in August, in support of their European headlining tour with Make Do And Mend.

Scheduled for September 9, 2011 at the Gramercy Theatre, the show will mark the official U.S. screening/release party for DORO's 25 Years In Rock DVD, set for release in North America via Nuclear Blast on September 13.

"Late Bloomer" is one of those songs that songwriter's either say "it just hits" or "just came to them." In this case, the song came out of a music idea or riff that I had cataloged a couple years before Kane and I wrote it. The meat of the song is basically a variation of 2 chords that creates tension with the vocal melody.

When I initially came up with the music I had a sort of anthem, sing along, group chorus idea in my head (which is initially how the song begins). Kane and I wanted the focus of the song to be centered around the chorus so we decided to pretty much keep the verse and chorus structure (chord-wise) essentially the same. This is probably also one of the most minimally structured songs we've written, the simplicity of the music portion really allowed us to focus of the lyrics, melody and groove.

So the writing process that Kane and I usually do starts with a chord progression or riff that either one of us brings to the table. Sometimes it happens with a lyric or melody, but in most cases spawns from a progression or riff. The song usually starts to take shape after we've been hanging out and chatting for a while. Usually the subject of the song is a result of the conversation we were having. "Late Bloomer" came out of a conversation we were having about people we knew; friends & fellow musicians who we felt had so much talent and potential but had somehow become lost along the way. Some had realized their potential and capitalized on it, but in most cases, these people were floating around waiting for something to happen instead of taking charge. We wanted to write a song about the "late bloomer" type of person that has sat on their talent for longer than usual but finally wakes up and takes action after the "light bulb goes on." We both definitely had some previous personal experience with this subject matter, so that also helped write some of the lyrics faster.

This song literally was written in about 15 minutes. After our initial conversation (and a few glasses of wine!!!) Kane and I came up with the chorus idea. We usually start with the chorus idea so that we know that our initial focus will be for the song. The main theme of the song "oh no, alright, let go" was the anthem and sing along focus that we wanted. We chose to use that as the beginning, creating a prelude to the chorus, because once you get there (to the chorus), you get the resolution to that phrase which is "I'm a late bloomer and the moment is now, I know, I know, I know, I know." This was the light at the end of the tunnel portion of the conflict and the idea of the lost person waking up. The verses became the conflict/ tension and the chorus- the resolution and release.

I wish every song could be written in 15 minutes! When they do come (and you are pleased with the end results) you feel really lucky as a songwriter.
