Judas Priest Vs Lady Gaga |
The second single off Gaga's "Born This Way" was inspired by a Priest connection. "I've had lots of ex-boyfriends betray me a**holes, we all have them and in particular there was one who loved Judas Priest, loved heavy metal," Gaga told Britain's MTV.
"Originally, I began to write the song about an ex-lover, who betrayed me, who loved heavy metal music and then as I started to write the lyrics, I thought about Judas and the biblical implications and how Judas was the betrayer. So I thought of a more beautiful and liberating way to tackle the message of the song we attack the idea by saying my ex-boyfriend betrayed me and this person in my life haunts me but I forgive them and we'll move on to make room for what's good."

Motley Crue's Mick Mars To Show His Soul |
"I think that bands get tired of playing certain songs because they've played them for so long, year after year after year," Mars said. He's still enjoying that, though, with the Cre's fans choosing their current set list via an online poll. "Some of those songs we haven't played in 20 years, like "Smokin' in the Boys' Room," Mars admitted.
But Mars also has other plans. He revealed he recently jammed with jazz legend George Benson and they bonded over a common-love of Wes Montgomery. The session so affected Mars that he's now considering releasing a solo effort of R&B, soul, and blues songs. It will happen "if and when I find the right people," he said. "I found the right drummer, and I've asked Macy Gray if she'd like to guest on it," he said. "It's not going to be anything like Mtley Cre."

The Day Bob Dylan's Mr. Tambourine Man Was Born |
It's thought that Dylan began writing the song during a trip to Mardi Gras and that the colorful and often surrealistic imagery in the song ("your magic swirling ship") was directly inspired by the festivities in New Orleans. Some critics and writers have found references to the poetry of Arthur Rimbaud, while Dylan himself later said that he was influenced by Federico Fellini's La Strada when writing the song.
Many have theorized that "Mr. Tambourine Man" is about drugs specifically LSD with the title character serving as code for a drug dealer. But Dylan has denied this, largely because he hadn't even tried LSD at the time the song was written. So who is "Mr. Tambourine Man"? Some have suggested it's Bob's muse, or that it's the Pied Piper, a gospel preacher or even Jesus Christ. A more literal interpretation links the song to guitarist Bruce Langhorne, because he brought a four-inch deep Turkish frame drum similar to a tambourine to a previous Dylan recording session.

Rush's Neil Peart's Biggest Inspiration |
Peart also talked at length about his philosophy on solos. "If drummers are 'anti-solo,' that's up to them. They're musicians, and they can play whatever they want. But my inspirations early on were people like Buddy Rich, seeing him on The Tonight Show, or Gene Krupa. I think of The Gene Krupa Story movie, which opens with an overhead shot of him playing so energetically and beautifully...
"Stewart Copeland, who's a good buddy of mine, he's very anti-drum solo, too. Yet he jokes that when he was a kid, around the same era as I was, that any drummer who didn't play drum solos was 'lame.' But it can be too much of a good thing, sure. Take John Bonham, who's a drummer I greatly admire: I watch some of his performances, and they're fantastic, but you know, it gets long and self-indulgent."

Katatonia and Opeth North American Tour |
Guitarist Anders Nystrm issued the following statement in anticipation of this monumental combination of Swedish metal heavyweights:
"Both you and we know that North America damn well deserves to see more of Katatonia, right? So how could we possibly resist heading back to the states this fall when Opeth are giving us the opportunity to be their special guests? It was just a matter of time before it had to happen again. Yes we toured together in the same formation ten years ago in Europ,e and not only was that tour very well received by both bands' fans, but we also shared a great ride together as long time friends. Some people have even been calling this bill their 'dream line-up', so it's only fair that the loyal fans in North America now get their piece of the cake too! So come out and see us on this great tour and remember we're playing headlining sideshows as well! Looking forward! Cheers!"

Ozzy Osbourne Collaborator Phil Soussan Releases New Album |
Phil has played with the likes of rock legends such as Ozzy Osbourne, Vince Neil, Billy Idol, Steve Lukather, Richie Kotzen and with an early version of "The Firm", formed by legendary Led Zeppelin guitar player Jimmy Page.
"No Protection" is the culmination of 3 years' work, recording, producing and mixing a collection of 13 songs that were all written over a period of about a year. The songs are a reflection of the idea that in life, time waits for no one. "What is unique about this album is that I felt the inspiration to record an album on which I play virtually all of the instruments and perform all of the vocals." Phil said. "I had always wanted to play all the instruments on a record, ever since I saw McCartney do just that; it was a very tough and tricky thing to do but I have become a better musician for it! I am very proud of this CD"

Singled Out: Shraphead's Nothingness |
Hi there crazy metalfans! This is Jo Johnsrud, guitar/singer in Shraphead.
We have just released our debut album. The song I am gonna talk about is "Nothingness". This is a very dark and emotional song for me. And I tend to get my anger and frustration out in the music.
That way I feel the music get's more value.. for me anyway.. The worst thing i know is music that is completely dead, and one dimensional. Anyway.. the song began to take form when i was at friends house, Andr and Kim. We were sitting and watching something on tv, and me as always with the guitar on my lap. Suddenly, the verse riff came to my mind, and we all loved it instantly. It was natural to give it a dark theme feel. Because right then I had
a very difficult time in my life. And it felt like after we made the song, I could move on, and that helped me a lot.
It also sets a perspective on how much energy the song contains. The song is about how people in the society, have to add up to the expectations from the mainstream crowd with the "pop culture" attitude.. and if you for example are sitting alone over a period of time in your life, and maybe are afraid to step out, because of the cruel welcoming you know your gonna get. Well I can't blame them. I sing in the song: "Bringin on the storm just to be alone."
And i think that explains it all.
Where the influences comes from I have no clue.. probably from some of my old favorites like Metallica and Machine Head which I keep dear to my heart. But i think it would be incredible naive to rule out any other possible source of influences. Hope you enjoy the song that is nr. 8 on the album Blind & Seduced. Peace
Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album
right here!
