Steve Jobs RIP
We are sad to report that the visionary cofounder of Apple Computer, Steve Jobs, died Wednesday after a long fight against pancreatic cancer. He was 56. Here is our tribute to the man and his legacy:

Steve Jobs' impact on modern society can not be understated. He may not have invented the internet, but he helped make it possible. Jobs helped usher in the age of personal computing by first seeing the potential of his friend Steve Wozniak's homemade computer and helping to create the first mass-market personal computer with the Apple II.

It was a visit to Xerox PARC where Steve's dream of something "Insanely Great" was first sparked. It was on that visit that Jobs was exposed to three technologies which dominate computing today: object oriented programming, Ethernet and a revolutionary new way of computing... the Graphical User Interface (GUI). more on this story

Why Anthrax Ditched Their Singer
(hennemusic) In a new interview with Guitar World, Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante and guitarist Scott Ian shed some light on the abrupt 2009 resignation/firing of singer Dan Nelson, after he spent less than two years with the band. At the time, the group issued a press release stating Nelson's departure was 'due to illness', and that upcoming tour dates were cancelled.

Nelson fired back online with a statement of his own: "It was the other band members' decision to cancel the tour dates, not mine. I was ready, willing and able to do my job. After issuing the press release, the other band members decided, on their own accord, that I had 'resigned' from the band. I never resigned from the band."

Until now, Anthrax have chosen not to elaborate on what went down.... According to Ian, "(Nelson's) words were, 'I quit. I'm not doing this. Don't come to my house. Don't try and talk me out of this.' Again. Because that wasn't the first time he had quit Anthrax; it was the third time. But that was his M.O. He would quit, and then he would make a bunch of demands on us, and we would cave and he would come back."

"First show we did with him, backstage, big argument, big blowout," added Benante. "It was unbelievable. And from that moment we should have known. And all along, he just kept pulling weird s**t. Like, he would call me and not tell the other guys, or call one of them and not tell the rest of us, and just talk s**t." more on this story

Billy Corgan Refutes Smashing Pumpkins Break-Up Reports
(Banana 101.5) Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan explains an ominous statement he made last week about the band's fate being tied to the success of their new album 'Oceania'.

Most reports on the interview with Billboard cited his comments as a dark cloud over the future of the band. Corgan recently did some clarifying in an interview with Crestfallen.com:

"I would say those reports are irresponsible. We are very happy together as a band and as friends, and there are no plans to disband, nor any discussions about disbanding. My point was if Oceania is not well received, it would be time to change our focus as a band. I have plenty of projects that have been sitting on the shelf for a while that I'd be more than happy for us to get into. That said, Oceania is a record we are very proud of and we hope people feel about it as strongly as we do." more on this story

Avenged Sevenfold Was The Beginning of Portnoy's End in Dream Theater
(hennemusic) The Mike Portnoy situation is a topic Dream Theater will likely have to address for some time to come, and guitarist John Petrucci does just that in a new interview with Guitar World. One of the first signs of an issue with Portnoy was the drummer's plan to tour with Avenged Sevenfold at a time when Dream Theater were planning to record.

"Mike had played on Avenged's album ['Nightmare'] and that was fine," explains Petrucci. "We all do side projects when time permits. But touring with the band, that was a different story. That was taking significant time away from Dream Theater at a point when we were all planning to start recording. Initially, we put off recording to go on tour with Iron Maiden that was too good an opportunity for us to turn down. And then when Mike said he was going on the road with Avenged Sevenfold right after the Maiden tour, that didn't feel right."

Portnoy then asked DT to take an extended hiatus, with no timeline to regroup. "In the end, it was something we couldn't do," says John. "Mike wanted to hold all the cards. He wanted to get back together when it suited him. We couldn't abide by that. So he decided to quit. It was quite a blow. As much as we wanted to continue as a band, we didn't want Mike to leave."

Sebastian Bach Ends Feud
(hennemusic) Sebastian Bach and CBC host George Stroumboulopoulos last saw each other 11 years ago, and the interview did not end well. It ended abruptly.

A host at MuchMusic back then, Strombo was speaking with Bach about his work on Broadway, and the conversation turned to hair metal and Poison; Sebastian lost it, said "this is over, f**k this," took off his microphone and walked off, ending the session on the spot.

Fast forward to 2011: Bach has a new album to promote, "Kicking & Screaming," and Strombo now has his own show at the CBC, Canada's public broadcaster. The two hooked up recently to chat, and the episode aired Tuesday evening. Check it out
