Bo Bice - The Real Thing by antiGUY Man is that title misleading. Tagged as the "rocker" on American Idol last year, Bo looked like he might bring some credibility to the pop show but then Clive Davis got a hold of him and this lame mass-focused "pop" album is the result. At his best moments here, Bo comes across as a piss-poor Nickelback knock-off. At his worst moments, Bo comes across as a piss-poor Nickelback knock-off. Remember when Bo brought the house down with his version of "Sweet Home Alabama"? Don't hold your breath for anything close to a repeat of that here, instead we get homogenized radio friendly throw away tracks like the title track and "You're Everything". This is what you would expect from that other so-called Idol "rocker," Constanqueen. "U Make Me Better" starts out promising with some cool guitar work but then quickly turns in to a Clive Davis ass-flavored power ballad. Yes, I cannot say it enough, Clive Davis has ruined more careers than he has made with his "vision". Retire already you dinosaur! Remember when Clive told Bo that he couldn't wait to get him into the studio and castrate him? Well he kept his promise. (ok, Clive didn't say castrate but that's what I read between the lines and he delivered). The sad truth is that Clay Aikens rocks harder than most of the schmaltzy pop crap on this disc. I'd continue but my lunch is coming back up. I can't say I'm surprised as "rock stars" are not made on TV, but I held out a little hope that Bo would put his vocal talent to good use. If you're a top 40, TRL watchin, trend monger without discerning taste, you might like this CD as it was obviously made with you in mind. If you're a rocker and want a rock CD, stay far far far far away from this piece of s***!
