Allman Brothers Band Surprise Fans At Final Concert

(The Blues) The Allman Brothers Band ended their 45-year career this week with a 3-set show that came as a surprise to the audience. Leader Greg Allman - who's to receive this year's Living Legend Award at the Classic Rock Roll Of Honour next month - confirmed earlier this year that their October run of shows at New York's Beacon Theatre would be their last, following guitarists Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks' decision to quit.

The band hadn't advertised they'd be playing a third set, which kicked off after midnight when fans were simply expecting one final encore. Instead they were treated to five more songs, including two reprises of Mountain Jam.

Allman then led his colleagues in their first-ever bow to an audience and said: "Never did I have any idea it would come to this." They ended the show with a performance their cover of Muddy Waters' Trouble No More - the first song they'd ever played. More including the full set list here.
