Hall of Crock

I am beginning to agree with Henry Rollins more and more everyday. A few years ago on some lame VH1 countdown show he said the Sex Pistols were cute and he would pet Johnny Rotten like a lap dog.

The entire hubbub about the Sex Pistols snubbing the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is cute as well. Granted, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and its black tie ceremony at the Waldorf Astoria is about as rock and roll as dinner with grandma, but the importance of the Sex Pistols has nothing to do with music, as a band they are one of the most overrated ever.

Never Mind the Bullocks is the one album responsible for the cartoonish image that punk is saddled with and fills the shopping malls across America. Their bass player is the poster child for dumb junkie and the loud moth singer become a reality television star.

It's cute that Rotten would take such a defiant stance against the Hall of Fame. The quotes and one liners should boost sales for a couple weeks, while the underappreciated and truly "punk" bands will continue to live in squalor. Only dreams and bologna on hand sandwiches will be able to fill their nights when they aren't slogging away in front of 50 people in a dingy club.

Another funny foot note of the current induction ceremony was how Ozzy limped along with Black Sabbath, always a whiner about how the hall snubbed Sabbath now he is a gracious acceptor of their accolades. If the induction means nothing to you, like you have said for years, don't release a greatest hits album to coincide with the ceremony. In fact, if you wanted to do something very rock and roll, get in the studio and make a rock record. Leave the wife and kids at home and starting blowing people's minds again.

Your fans will remember a great album and tour much longer than the extended all star jam with Paul Shaffer. To quote Ozzy's arch nemesis, Ronnie James Dio. "Whatever happened to the rock and roll song; breaking your brain, making you stronger/the say you'll never hear the bullet that kills/and I don't hear a sound."
