antiGuy's Top 5
This Weeks | Previous
antiGUY gives his top 5 list of music stuff. Could be songs, people, a stupid trend... nothing is sacred to antiGUY

This Weeks Top 5
The Top 5 this time deals with over rated artist. I'm not saying that these guys and gals are all bad, it's just that they are not great. I know many will disagree with this list, so be it. You can argue all you want in the Your Turn section below. I just think that these "artist" have gotten a lot more credit and recognition than they deserve.

Top 5 most over rated artist of all time.

5. Hootie and the Blowfish ( Come on anyone can sing a bunch of cheesy pop songs in a monotone voice.)
4. The Who. These guys are ok, but nowhere near as good as other bands of their day.  Can you compare Pinball Wizard to Hey Jude or Stairway to Heaven?
3.  Anyone on the VH1 Diva's list... if I was middle aged or a transvestite maybe I would understand why they love these chics so much.
2. Garth Brooks - he is to country what Michael Bolton is to Pop. A mediocre artist who got lucky. Hank Williams Jr. is much better.

and number one

Bruce Springsteen - If this guys is the boss, than I want a new job.

Your turn, what do you think? Do you agree with antiGUY or think he's an idiot?

hootie and the blowfish is overated and so are the who, VH1's divas list for sure. however, Garth Brooks is undoubtably the king of contemporary country music and Bruce Sprinsteen IS the boss, you obviously aren't from Jersey cause if you were you'd know that Pauly Tony and Vinny would kick your ass for talking that way about him

Posted by DNS:
Many of you should stop hatting and start listening. Theirs been many singers that I have heard that have outstanding voices. Some have really low ranges and some have really high ranges. I'v learned to love music. all types. I'm not stuck on one type of music and wouldnt give a damn about the others. You people need to open your eyes, because what ever goes around comes back around. I've read half of your messages, and you all have seem to down celebraties. Eventually you'll get your turn! people will talk about you soon, and then will see how much you can mend!!

Posted by smithjones:
great site. most overrated is Sheryl Tone-deaf crow

Posted by Herby:
Elton John, the Beetles, Sting, Bruce Springsteen....what do they all have in common? O ya, they suck and have sold millions of records. How the hell did they lure society into buying this crap they promote as music?

Posted by ME:
Can we please use our words to express ourselves? Profanity is unnecessary and distracts from some good points that you may have. Not the point, let's move on. The Beatles created the pop music scene as we know it. They also defined a generation. They deserve some credit. Jimi Hendrix, as said by any self-respecting guitarist, changed the way the guitar is played. He deserves some credit. The Who, Led Zepplin, the Rolling Stones and Bruce Sprinsteen can really strip it down can give you some good old fashion Rock and Roll. Some of those bands experimental phases should be applauded not bashed. Artist should express themselves in any direction they seem fit and it should not be held against them. Nirvana gave agnst a new definition and influenced another generation of musicans, and ushered in a new era of music. The Seattle changed the musical landscape and made us think. Nirvana and the other Seattle bands desere some credit. I don't agree that all the singers on the Diva's list are worthy of the title, but lay off of Aretha Franklin. She can sing circles around many of he pop 'singers' we hear today. As far as the list is concerened, I wish I had half the talent, overrated as they maybe, than any of them. Then maybe I wouldn't be wasting my precious time on this site.

Posted by Mr. huh? saying, "My Generation Sucks!":
Anyone who considers Elton John to be overrated deserves to be forced to listen to albums like Madman Across the Water, The One, Honkey Chateau, etc.

Posted by lwp:
Mate, the most overated band in the world is the Red Hot Chili Peppers

Posted by Druid:
Widespread Panic. These clowns are looked upon as Godz by the leftover Dead Heads. I find their song-writing skills a little lacking myself, although they are good musicians.l

Posted by sum chick:
more than half of you people have absolutely sh*t all of an idea about lyrics and music. most of you dont understand Nirvanas lyrics because yor fu**in dumb a$$'s thier songs mean heaps they all say something and they influenced a generation how can you say they are sh*t when they have done a hell of a lot better than you lot

Posted by pete:
The Who is overrated? Have you LISTENED to Quadrophenia or Who by Numbers? You want an overrated artist, look at John Mayer.

Posted by KHisDC:
You Have got to be kidding about Garth Brooks. Comparing those two is just not right.

Posted by Dawg:
I'm not going to say who should be or shouldn't be on the list, but I will say this. You can definetly tell the young from the old in a lot of these posts...

Posted by BBB:
You should be roasted for putting "The Who" on this list. Definitely #1's gotta be Elton John

Posted by justin:
5) velvet underground-has anyone actually ever listened to this pretentious crap? 4)grateful dead- music is dreadfully boring.why do you think people started getting high while listening?they had to liven it up somehow! 3)u2-i want to deicate this song to the man living in a shanty in south africa. bono, get over yourself. it will take better music than what youve got to save the world! 2)creednickelbackdefaultsaliva(enter name of faceless, bland, useless"rocker"here!) 1)nirvana-they get the credit for disposing of all the hair fluffers. do you really thing that alice in chains and soundgarden couldnt have taken care of that little problem for us? honorable mention-pearl jam-why are you still making albums? your career ended in 1994 mushmouth! p.s. lay off the who.

Posted by Holden Johnson:
5 - The Doors 4 - Avril or is it Advil 3 - Michael Jackson 2 - M&M :) 1 - Pink Floyd 2 -

Posted by fleshwound:
5 - The Doors (they really aren't that good) 4 - jimmy hendrix (f!@# him.. he sucks arse.. and so does his music) 3 - micheal jackson (his music wasn't that good. he's a circus freak now.) 2 - the sexy pistols (they have NO decent songs. total crap) 1 - The Beatles (yeah.. if you make that many damn songs you're bound to have a few good ones. but c'mon.. for the most part they sucked

I was.....majorly ashamed to admitt this a fan on Creed! But then i heard some of pearl jams stuff and it's truely amazing how alike they sound! and i think we can all guess what band was around first!

Posted by musicman:
the who is one of the greatest of all time

Posted by yomamasofat:
5. Creed 4. Korn 3. Pearl Jam 2. Staind 1. Disturbed

Posted by Mr. huh?:
Most people on this list are idiots. Bruce Springsteen wrote storyteller type lyrics. The Who could play their instruments and write good songs. Nirvana was a bit overrated, but Kurt could write some intelligent lyrics (listen to "Serve the Serphents"). Some people say they didn't make sense. I say you don't think enough. Barenaked Ladies? Why is it that everyone here hates them. They make comical music with intelligent, yet comical lyrics. Learn to have some fun. Matchbox 20 make good use of imagery in their music and storytelling in their music as well. Hootie and the Blowfish? Listen to more than what you hear on the radio, and you'll find something genuinely optimistic. Really the only people that truly belong on this list are any teen pop acts and maybe KISS

Posted by Pyramid2112:
my top 5 list: 5. KISS, c'mon anyone can dress in make up and sing about partying. 4. Creed, yep.. the ultimate Pearl Jam imitator. 3.The Eagles. I dunno why people like them so much 2. AC/DC, Back In Black and Highway To Hell were awesome records, but they get very monotonous after a while, and they haven't really progressed after 30 years. My #1 pick is METALLICA! They're called the Gods of Metal, but all they really did was make speed metal accessible to the public. Though they did release a few great records, they wore out their welcome in my opinion, and they're very overrated

Posted by Ivoric:
4) Ringo Starr 3) George Harrison 2) Paul Mcartney 1) John Lennon

Posted by some dude:
I agree with most of the list but springsteen and the who are too influential. here s my list. 5.Creed-I have never seen a band get so much praise by ripping off Pearl Jam 4. Led Zeppelin-I am really sick of people calling them the fathers of metal That Title belongs to Black Sabbath 3.Prince-he made a movie and shows his @$$ Big F'n deal 2.Blink 182-total phonies any band who is on MTV as much as they are is not a punk band. True punk died with Joey Ramone. 1. Matchbox 20-Just another soft pop"hit" machine. Also alot of people have been saying KISS is overrated. Maybe the original lineup is a smidge overrated, but u have to look at the non-makeup years. Eric Carr Eric Singer,Vinnie Vincent and Bruce Kulick are some of the finest Hard rock musicians the world has ever known. Antiguy-Do a list of overrated albums next lots of candidates there.

Posted by iamsocool:
Bruce Springsteen? thats the best you can come up with? what about KISS, the Rolling Stones, or Van Halen?

Posted by SocialAnxietyMan:
I think Eve sucks, Eminem who is just white trash with bad grammar skills, and Madonna .Nuff said

Posted by GSPOT:
Pearl Jam, Metallica, KISS, The Grateful Dead, and Phish... all lick donkey balls.

Posted by Mr. Gone:
Oh, and I almost forgot. You know Princess Daina? she's dead. Let it go. Your re-released "Candle in the wind" does nothing for me. I don't exactly like ALL the Who's music, but I can dfinately rack Baba O'Riely higher than a middle aged gay man who pretends to be Buddy Holly.

Posted by Mr. Gone:
Divas? Wasn't "Sir" Elton John on that list? It's very sad when your music is so pathetic that you are compared to ugly old women who try to be sexy and can't sing.

Posted by Gaah:
I think it's obvious that you haven't listened to much of the Who's music. Pinball Wizard was probably their worst song, geez. They weren't as good as the Beatles, but they were definitely more talented than Led Zeppelin. Just listen to more of their stuff. Quadrophenia, Who's Next, Live at Leeds. Really really GOOD!

Posted by Hecksin:
Hey hottie, you my be beautiful but don't you think personality counts? I do, unless I'm going to have a one night stand or somee thing. but what ever flies your kyte eh?

JONNY
O.K.

POO
POO

rsilverman@hentaiseeker.com
Bruce Springsteen? When, maybe he at least deserves harsh rebuking for 'Jesse's Girl' :) ...Anyway, I think Metallica is one of the more overrated bands. Maybe I'm just repulsed by their admitted desire to make money over music, and also their militant anti-Napster stance. ("Our music should be sold for the art it is, not given away free like a commodity." Riiight.)

ELLY
Does anyone know what the hell is written on Fred Durst's shirt in the clip for "My Generation"? Stupid censorship.

c*nt face
that he is a f$cking retard from another f*cking world on a stick

JNO
I tihnk that you guys don't really know what you're talking about. Sure, you may not like a certain artists music, but that doesn't give you any right to say things like they don't deserve it or they are vastly overrated. I mean, can you do the things they do? Night after night, traveling every day and playing in a new city every week? I don't think that I could. And until you all go out there and prove that you can do it better than they can, I don't feel that you have any room to talk.

BUTCH
By far, the most overrated band of all time is the Beatles. They were just a pop band that got into drugs and the stupid culture of the 60's. John Lennon was a fool. "Imagine", the song credited as lennon's best, sounds like the musical version of the communist manifesto. It is a song that cries antifreedom and bland sameness of everything. Truly, a low point in music "nothing to live or die for". I don't consider that mentality a great contrabution. I consider it mewling!

NJM
I can't stand to listen to the Beatles. Overrated to hell! Weak-a$$ lyrics, boring, sleepy pop music. Whether it's the early stuff or their later stuff, it's just weak to me. They make me gag. My brother-in-law loves 'em, I can't understand why. I'm the metal dude. From Motorhead to Maiden to Ozzy/Sabbath to MegaDeth to Metallica, and even bands like AC/DC, Motley Crue, Guns N' Roses, Skynyrd, Blue Oyster Cult, Zeppelin, and KISS. I like KISS' harder/heavier stuff like "Unholy" and the CREATURES OF THE NIGHT album. Love Gene's ugly vocals. Also, "Stairway to Heaven" is overrated. Yeah, it was probably good back in the 70's, but as time goes on, you hear better stuff that surpasses STAIRWAY in other ways. To me, it's just another song. Oh, and I also listen to a little Pantera, too. Alice Cooper is some pretty damn good $#!%, too. I also listen to other stuff ranging from Ted Nugent to Deep Purple to Hendrix to more current stuff like Buckcherry, Bush, and even 80's stuff like Def Leppard & Bon Jovi. Basically, I can't stand much of anything before the 70's (Hendrix being the exception). Anyway, the Beatles are WAAY too damn overrated, they were better afterwards (Lennon & McCartney apart were better than when they were together). Also, I've turned off to some of The Who's stuff from all the commercials it's been featured in recently. I like Van Halen, too, but they seem to get more airplay than they should (especially the Sammy Hagar-era stuff). Like Metallica, Van Halen was truly better musically in their earlier days. I mean, for Metallica, which is better? "Holier Than Thou" or "Leper Messiah"? Although, for the guy who said Kirk's stuff is easy to play, try playing the solos to "The Outlaw Torn" or the end solo to "The Four Horsemen". Now, I don't play guitar, but that end solo is gotta be the fastest solo I've ever heard. Also, I've never heard anything like the "Outlaw Torn" solo, very bizarre-sounding. Also, if we're talking mainstream here, then, Metallica ISN'T overrated. They're UNDERrated. The mainstream only looks on the Black Album and afterwards. If they listened to something like the MASTER OF PUPPETS or ...AND JUSTICE FOR ALL albums, they'd see how underrated they are. Yes, the production on JUSTICE was cr@p, but the meaning is still there. The lyrics on JUSTICE are they're most evolved, most mature stuff to-date. The mainstream only knows "Enter Sandman", and nothing more. Thus, making "Enter Sandman" overrated, but not Metallica, not in the mainstream at least. -NJM

Whoa, whoa, whoa! Take it easy on The Who! While I admit that they aren't as good as Led Zeppelin or Pink Floyd, they do deserve a place next to them in the Greatest Rock Band of All Time List. My pick for overrated bands-N'SYNC and The Backstreet Boys. They're just puppets. They play no instruments and write no music. Plus, those harmonies that they do are produced with the aid of studio magic. Normal human beings can't get their voices that, um, in sync. Plus, they all suck. Also, Kid Rock, who, if he wasn't famous, would be sitting in his trailer, in his underwear, watching WWF and getting drunk. He's just white trash that got lucky. Also, KISS. Okay, KISS is cool, but you gotta admit, if not for the makeup and the fire-breathing, and the blood-hocking, they wouldn't be famous. Listen to their music. It's just plain old heavy metal. If it wasn't for the makeup, you wouldn't listen to them, either!

blackadder44

the who dont come close to being able to be in the presence as bands such as the beatles and led zeppilen, the beatles are the best band of all time

Harried Howie
Hootie and the Blowfish make me want to "go postal." As for the Divas, maybe they can really sing, but they are misusing their talents with the garbage they caterwaul. I don't know if Britney can sing. Certainly her producers aren't letting her try. I like looking at her, though. Which makes me feel like a dirty old man because she's a bit younger than my own kids.

kelleybean
Well everybody else has an opinion, so I may as well throw mine up here. Ahem. The Grateful Dead, anyone? For such a "classic" band, I have heard maybe 3 of their songs...and those are pretty good, but what's all the hype about? And as for all the Nirvana mudslinging that's going on here, well, it's a GREAT band...now. Let's face it, even thought I love them, would they have really been soooo popular if he hadn't killed himself? No. They would have faded into Seattle band obscurity.

shadow
Backstreet boys are way over rated they don't even play their own instruments.

ash
britney spears. i mean seriously... i can put on a tube top and pleather pants and hair extensions and look pretty too. but does that mean i'm a pop star?

marguerite
Hes an idiot

hey HELL i think your just a sh*ty little a*s hole and you shouldn't be dissing on JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE because he's a lot better than you. so you should just shut the HELL up.

Thunderfingers
Heavy metal was born out of The Who's Live At Leeds. Granted, Tommy was an overly pretentious album, but Quadrophenia and Who's Next are two of the best albums ever recorded. If you want to talk overrated bands, look at KISS (what a joke), Nirvana (sucked), Metallica (post-black album). These bands contributed nothing to improve the music scene. The Who, however, helped to create and define hard rock and heavy metal.

Musicgod
I hate to disappoint everyone, but it’s all old.

*concurs wholeheartedly with SpAZ!!!* And ever listen to Nirvana's first album, Bleach? Pure, non-MTV-tarred genius.

SpAZ!!!
I think the "Wanker" kid who said that Beethoven is overrated is quite a retard. Beethoven was a composer in the 1800's. He didn't paly guitar because her was a classical music composer. My opinion of the most overrated is any boy band who can't play an instrument and has someone else write the music they sing for them...They are just preety boys picked up off of the streets and made to dance for money.

Will Smith is the most overated rapper of all time

nicki
i think all boybands are also overrated!!

gut
I do agree with antiGUY. And the rest of you r right as well. Nirvana is my favorite band but they werent the greatest. MTV did make Kurt Cobain look like a f*ck*n god. He was just a guy. I hate when MTV overblows artist like Limp Bizkit and Korn. As for Kurts whining, who doesn't do that. AC/ DC, Megadeth, you name it , they all have their own way of b*tch*n' to the world. Stop giving kurt a bad rap, it's the industry that blew him over and made him WAAAAY more than he really was. I dont really think that they influenced a generation they were just there at the right place at the right time. As far as the previously mentioned AC/DC, Metallica, etc, they may have influenced harder rock, but they're old now. Let other new bands have their hayday.

Whatever
I can't respect any band that doesn't right at least some of their own music. If over half the of a bands material has been written by some studio writer than the band is overrated. Example- On Brittany Spears new album she co-wrote one song. Thats sad. No band can be considered overrated if they at least wrote a decent amount of their music. I may not like Garth Brooks or some other bands that much but I respect them cause they write their own stuff.

BUFF
ALL THE BOY BANDS ARE GAY.

The Great Big O
Bruce Springsteen is God and he hates you.. the rest is right.

LA FEE VERTE
NIRVANA DEFINED A MUSIC MOVEMENT??? I THINK NOT,GRUNGE WAS A WORD MADE BY RECORED EXECS.KURT AND CO.WERE A MISGUIDED WANNABE PSUDEO PUNK BAND.NO INTELLIGENT LYRICS FROM THAT SMACK FIENDS MOUTH.AS FOR ALL THIS JIBBA JABBA ABOUT NIRVANA INFLUENCING BANDS,FOO FIGHTERS DONT COUNT,THE SINGER WAS NIRVANAS DRUMMER,AND BLINK 182 IS WELL THEY SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES I CANT EEN THINK OF AN INSULT THAT WOULD BE FITTING.GO FIND SOME REAL MUSIC LIKE DEAD KENNEDYS,THOSE ARE SOME LYRICS,IRONIC REBELLIOUS INTELLIGENT.SOMETHING MOST PUNK BANDS WILL NEVER BE.GREENDAY TAKE NOTICE.OH YEAH AND THIS SLIPNOT BAND IS WAAAAAAAAAAY OVERRATED

LiquidPulse
Won't Get Fooled Again and Baba O'Riley are better songs than Hey Jude or Stairway to Heaven. Their also revolutuionary in the use of synth in rock music. No Quarter is the best Led Zeppelin song yet it seems to have been forgotten.

Hell
First of all: Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake, because when they sing they both sound like frogs( no wonder, they f*ck each other). And of course Christina Aguilera: she's a skinny ugly b*tch who considers herself to be sexy-->WHICH SHE IS NOT, she makes me puke, she looks like a porn actress(bet she f*cked her way up)

Verc
Metallica's overarted. Kirk's stuff is easy to play and james cant sing anymore

LoDave
Nirvana is without a doubt the most overrated ever. Whining into a microphone is not brilliance. It's just whining. It's the artists like AC/DC or Tom Petty who play out of a genuine love of rock and roll that last for 25 or 30 years.

Gman
Any "overrated" list HAS to include Nirvana

Chook
Your a fu@@ing idiot Nirvana Crusher you cant knock a band that inspired a new generation of music (grunge) if they didnt come along we wouldnt get bands like Foo Fighters or Blink 182

Just me
ICED EARTH rules!!!!!!amen people!

Nirvana Crusher!
Without A Doubt-Nirvana!!!!!!!!-they had like maybe 5 or 6 good songs at the most, most of it was all cheesy a$$ riffs and stupid no-sense makin lyrics!

Michael
KI$$ way the F*** overrated, dont get me wrong I like them ,but they recieved too much credit for basically nothing!!!!!!

santa
your list is almost right, just remove bruce da boss from there

Crakula
antiGuy is a f**kin' idiot!

DIRTPUNK
KISS IS THE MOST OVERRATED BAND EVER,BESIDES FOR NIRVANA.NIRVANA WASNT THAT GOOD,THIS OH KURTS LYRICS WERE SOOOO DEEP.IS A IMAGE MADE BY RECORED EXECS TO MILK YOU OF YOUR MONEY.ANYONE CAN SHOOT UP SOME SMACK AND WRITE GIBBERISH..WAKE UP BUCKOS!!!!

Shorty the Rock Star
I think that that's totally right on. It's unbelievable that such whack acts get the most recognition. But I think that the list could be better. My top five would be: Brittany Spears, Backstreet Boys, Smash Mouth, Christina Aguilera, and Ricky Martin

RandyRhoads
I must agree that Nirvana is up there as one of the most over rated bands. First of all, the lyrics of their songs are jibberish. Three chords symbolizes their technical difficulty, and influencing the Foo Fighters hardly reveals credibility. Also, let's talk about responsibility. Kurt blew his brains out leaving a wife and child. Boy, now there is someone I want to exalt as a rock icon.

the seeker
Add the Dead, any "rap-metal" (the term is itself a contradiction) and almost all Seattle bands (except Soundgarden and maybe Pearl Jam), as well as noise metal like Static-X, Staind, and System of a Down. Oh yeah, also "modern rock" like Live and Oasis. Ugh. Gotta go puke. Later.

the seeker
I agree w/all of these, except The Who, and not just because my name (seeker)comes from a Who song. Listen to the Who's Next album. 'Won't Get Fooled Again' (along w/ Stairway, Paranoid, and Smoke on the Water) defined 70s hard rock.

THE SOUL ASSASIN
I THINK THE SPICE GIRLS ARE THE MOST OVERRATED B#TCH#S I HAVE EVER SEEN

timmjo
the rolling bones are the most over rated ever

dr fever
hey jello....F*(# YOU MAN!!! nirvana is and will for ever will be the most influential artists to come out of the 90's man!! Kurt was one of the best songwriter ever...you could FEEL his pain in this lyrics.....obviously you have the intelligence of a retarded monkey or you'd realize this...fade away??? no way...no way in hell!!! good god, nirvana is still influencing music today.....listen to foo fighters (obvious reasons), local h, verbena, or even Ash and you'll hear...wake the f*(K up and take a listen to some music, you might just learn somthing!!!

Adam
Cream. eric clapton may have been a very talented, influential guitarist, but these three guys routinely attempted to play instruments they couldn't, remake songs that were already damn good (and subsuquently ruin them, has anybody here ever heard a Robert Johnson original), and they tried to be a little too creative, which they just weren't very good at (i think they got a little too caught up in 60's psychedelia). besides all this, they really didn't work that well together. they were talented musicians, great live, and they could really play, but they had no clue about making albums. they recieve way too many accolades for a band that never really accomplished much more than popularity.

JELLO
I THINK KISS AND ALL THE OTHER C0CK ROCK LIKE VAN HALEN ARE HUGELY OVERRATED . ALSO NIRVANA ,IF KURT WOULD HAVE NEVER BLEW HIS HEAD OFF,HE WOULD HAVE FADED AWAY

riffman
AAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH I can't believe someone actually said led zeppelin and stairway to heaven were over rated. Go buy Led Zeppelin Remasters and listen to it all the way through and tell me they didnt have any talent. They influenced so many artists, rock or not, because they combined elements from so many different genres. They pulled it all together. Rock, jazz, classical, blues, and probably whatever else you can probably think of. They even made a semi-reggae song for gods sake! I dont know how anyone could ever say that stairway is overrated. That is the most beautifully composed piece of rock music i have ever heard. I agree about springsteen, but thats just my opinion; its not my bag baby. The Who, however, could have been better replaced with britney spears (even if she is stacked, and i would probably act totally different if i met her in person). Somebody has to take responsibility for the bubble gum big chested pre pubescent girl singer invasion. I also think america should nuke the united kingdom. They used to give us good bands like led zeppelin, the Who (i dont care what you say, they were one of the first hard rock bands) and thats where jimi hendrix made a name for himself. But now what? The Spice Girls?! Nuke 'em.

Katie
Ok, I totally agree with four out of your top five, especially Garth Brooks--I can't stand that egotistical whiner. BUT, I love Bruce!! His music speaks to your heart and soul, and I think his lyrics are like poetry. I think I'd replace his name on your list with Celine Dion. Now SHE is definitely overrated!!

eXc
Anyone who gets air time on "big-time" radio and calls themselves "hardcore" (i.c. Korn, Limp, Deftones, etc.). They are not. They are hard rock with a heavy rap influence. Real hardcore is derived from punk. You want hardcore, buy an Earth Crisis or Strife c.d.. Or maybe even a Minor Threat c.d.. The most overrated band of all time is the Sex Pistols. Produced pseudo punk. Disgusting.

Shy
I don't think it

Joe
I think Yngwie Malmsteen deserved the title of "best guitarist in the world," though Eric Clapton is the better musician. On another note, I don't believe Marilyn Manson is overrated, not with the reaction to their album, "Mechanical Animals.".

Geezer
Oh by the way Teresa I'm mad at myself for not saying Curt cocaine first GOOD Choice

Geezer
OK OK Why when you compare groups of the past to the metal of today does nobody mention UFO,Moxy, or even Frank Zappa? I hear direct rip-offs of their guitar riffs especially in KORN and Limp B---. In addition Bruce Springsteen's initials is a hint to his nauseating style.. Go back to the farm and play in it B.S. fans!!!

I agree that The Who are overrated, however, Hey Jude and Stairway to Heaven are completely overrated.

Helmet
All the boy bands!!! N' Sync, 98 degrees, Backstreet Boys....all those pretty boy bands can get lost in the middle of the Sahara for all I care. Custom made pop is recycled garbage made by greedy so called music executive's who know that they can make a big buck from screaming teenage girls. That these groups (I will not honor them by calling them a band) may be able to sing and play musical instruments, the amount of corporate packaging is sickening. Trash Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera (even if she is a babe) in that list too.

smut
Biohazard kicks! so does our lady peace, and sublime, and oleander! britney and christina s*ck, and limp bizkit is such a wannabe korn its not funny

Billy Rock
Um you skipped one, I think that Britney Spears needs to be on that list because the only thing she has in the way of talent (besides that she can dance) are her fake boobs!

[]D [] [\/] []D
I agree, Hootie and the Blowfish are just another 3 chord whiny pop band who's singer doesnt even have a 2 octive vocal range

TommyD
Simon, the fact that you have an opinion on Limp Bizkit pretty much tells sums it up! Turn off MTV and quit listening to your Ricky Martin CD! Don't worry Simon, your musical taste might change once puberty is over.Rock on you geek!

Simon
Tommy D is a jerk off. The who blows. the only thing I would change would be to add limp bizkit and korn

flip
i agree,but nirvana rules!!!!!

huskermould
The Doors and Led Zeppelin. Enough said!

King
I agree the Who is over rated. we hear so much about these guys but nothing about bands like the Moody Blues who made a lot better music than pin ball wizard.

Tommy D
The Who is over rated?? Peewee, pull out mommy and daddys albums and listen to more than one song!! Try listening to Live At Leeds(One of greatest live albums ever!) and then give an educated opinion.

Blister
Metallica and Elvis are over rated.

MEGADED
AS FOR NEW BANDS AL THOESE STUPID WIGGER WANNABE RAPPERS AND FALSE PUNK BANDS LIKE GREEN DAY CAN SUK MY MOTHERF****IN YOU GET THE PICTURE

MEGADED
FOR THE MOST PART YES,BUT THE BEATLES ARE NO GOOD THEY ARENT A ROCK N' ROLL BAND. YES BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN IS ALSO OVERRATED. EVERYONE IN YOUR LIST IS OVERRATED INDEED (EXCEPT FOR THE WHO). BASICALLY ALL I LISTEN TO IS METAL AND HARDCORE, AND MORE METAL. THE WHO, ALONG WITH BLACK SABBATH, DEEP PURPLE, AEROSMITH, MC5, THE STOOGES, AND LED ZEPPELIN ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL FORMS OF HEAVY MUSIC. IF IT WASNT FOR BANDS LIKE THEM I KNOW WE PROBabLY NOT HAVE SUCH GREAT BANDS AS METALLICA, MEGADETH, PANTERA, TOOL , SLAYER, ECT. BECAUSE THEY WERE INFLUENCED BY THOSE EARLY HARD ROCK BANDS OF THE 70S. AND ONE MUST RESPECT THAT

metal missionary
yeah doodoobag, not only does ungh sound like master p is constipated and trying to force one out, it's also the sound you'll hear after someone with taste hears that music and they start puking.

DooDooBag
Master P: Makes everyone sy 'unghh' after listening to the most trite, disgusting abominations to true HipHop.

Snow®
Way to go, Kylie !!! Enuff said ...........

Tonic
Yo musicgeek bruce is not blue collar he is almost as rich as God.

musicgeek
Bruce and the Who are NOT overrated. Too much influence on others. Townshend's & Bruce's intelligent lyrics and crafty melodies and arrangements with a positive and realistic attitude. Not over-rated. Over-playde in some areas perhaps. My vote is for Master P and related rap. How well rememberd and respcted will that stuff be in, like, a year? How embarassing.

musicgeek
Bruce is NOT overrated. He's the king of the blue-collar/middle class rock with intelligent lyrics and a positive attitude. Not over-rated. My vote is for Master P. How embarassing.

Kylie
AND ALL COUNTRY IS OVER RATED. SUX

Kylie
I think you should have N-Sync, Backstreet Boys, Barenaked Ladies, Blink 182, Ricky Martin and all the other gay music bands that go along with them. Why do people like those girly boy bands? STUPID

BNL Assassin
Each member of the Barenaked Ladies should be stalked and killed execution style.

BNL Assassin
Each member of the Barenaked Ladies should be stalked and killed execution style.

Mowgli
Though you hit the mark on the other 4 overrated choices (screw anyone who says differently), you're way off on The Who. Sure, some of the popular stuff is pretty much pop fluff, but can you really knock My Generation? Aside from the stuff that actually gets play, there's a real interesting mix of stuff that makes it ont o their albums: cynical, subversive, or just plain goofy. Yes, The Who is overrated, but they are not a worthless band at all, and so should not be mentioned as one of the MOST overrated.

DJ
Randy May, I can't see how you think Eric Clapton is overrated. I'm going with Big N. on this one. Clapton is probably the best guitarist in the world! How can you say he's phony when he wrote songs like "Tears in Heaven?"

The Man
Marilyn Manson s*cks my wanker big time. Put Backstreet Boys, Ricky Martin, N-Sync, LFO and all the other hip-hop wannabes on that list too. In fact, put most of the other recent black hip-hop acts on the list too. Good hip-hop (i.e. Public Enemy, Ice Cube, Tribe Called Quest) almost disappeared about 2-3 years ago as soon as the greedy record exec's got the idea they could get rich off of it.. Also add Bon Jovi, Poison, Motley Crue and all the rest of those pretty-boy metal bands. God I despised that stuff back in the 80's.. Oh yeah, Mariah Carey s*cks major shlong.

Bubba
to hey you. your right it is all about taste. people like antiGUY who have it and people like you who don't. you forgot led zeppelin

hey you
Pretty pointless subject. it all comes down to taste...

Bob Hope
Britney Spears missed her calling, she should have been a porn star instead (and still could be!).

Critic
I totally agree with you. I have one more to add; Ricky Martin. I think he is one of the most over rated artist right now. I can't stand that shmuck!!

Ripcord
I don't really agree with The Who as they were pretty influential. I agree with the rest though but I can think of some better ones like the Spice Girls. I have yet to see any talent from any of them. And that person that said Pink Floyd should be in the list needs to have their head checked. PF isn't good anymore but they were one of the best bands at trying new instruments/sounds and thus were quite talented.

Bummy
O.K. that was five words.

Bummy
The definition of over rated? I can sum it up in four words -- white guys playing the blues

Alyssa
LMAO.....you go!!

Gandolph67
I agree 100%

Fraggle
Not to say that radio play music is all trash, some really deep inspired music gets played on the radio, for some this is great ,however, music doen't have to be deep ( Lyricaly ) to have an audience, some people just thrive on the energy and not the meaning. IMHO

Fraggle
Anything that the radio plays to death or gets picked up by a major sponsor usually has the characteristics of overrated.

Satan
Umm.....wheres all the pop sh*t today that requires the talent of a peice of wood to do? I think you should make a Top 100 of this category...wed have some fun with it.

Scooby Poo
Make a bigger list! Add Aerosmith, Pink Floyd, and Van Halen to the list. If you listen to any rock station, these bands are not only overrated, but overplayed!

Casey
the Grateful Dead are the most overrated band ever. Their music s*cks, there performane has zero energy. Without drugs, no one would ever like them.

OooGa!
Replace The Who with Pink Floyd and I'm in total agreement. Pink Floyd's music at best (with Roger Waters) is average. At their worst (without Waters) they are boring. They have made the most uninspiring music I have ever heard.

Timm
who about a top 5 of Jobs antiGUY used to have, I would love to see that list. i agree with this list, but you must add U2, they are way over rated.

Geezer
By the way I'm middle aged and I don't understand Vh 1's Diva's either. Also I believe that bruce's Born in the USA should be called born with a hernia

Geezer
Anti-guy I must agree with you except that the most overrated artist of all time is the sickening dribble that came from Jerry Garcia's mindless orafice people should let his music die with his death Boring and repetitive garbage

frado
Beethoven is not overrated. He is one who deserves all the praise that he gets. The man could compose one hell of a piece of music, and he was also a famous piano player until he went completely deaf. Maybe you should rent "Immortal Beloved" to gain some appreciation for one of the world's greatest composers. If he's so talentless, then why does his music live on today, 200 years after he created it? Overrated artists may be hot for awhile, but their popularity doesn't last that long just b/c of their good looks.

LBC
To the Tori-bashing Kate Bush fan....I am not obsessed with Tori and I really don't care if you don't like her music, but if you think her and Kate Bush are so much alike then why do you hate her so much? Plus, since they both got into the music business around the same time, I hardly think that Tori hired secret spies to get all of Kate's piano scores and lyrics just so she could grab all the fame. Maybe you should check the dates....

Brooke
Speaking of overrated....how about Brittney Spears and all her bubble gum popping, air-headed, choreographed, untalented, underaged cohorts? I mean, I can sing. I can also play instruments. How about that? Someone who can acutally make real music instead of paying someone else to produce it on a computer. Although I realize I'm not the one with three or four videos and a one-album wonder on sale at your local Walmart, but I feel a little frustrated seeing all these no-talent teenagers taking on thousands of fans and throwing their barely-formed breasts into the faces of people who can't face up to the responsibility of making their own choices. Instead they have to let MTV tell them what will score them popular points in a world that can't recognize real musical talent. But that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

Amber
Eric Clapton is one of the greatest guitarists ever. And I hardly think you could call him sanctimonious or pompous, but since I don't know him personally, I can't say for sure. And Tori Amos is hardly overrated, or a Kate Bush wannabe for that matter. I think the Wallflowers are horribly overrated. Just b/c the lead singer had Bob Dylan for a father doesn't mean he has talent.

ozzgnome
some people are real idiots saying beethoven is over rated because he cant play guitar and that beatles are also over rated. thanks to those idiots who waste space with dumb comments

Long John
First off, I have no clue how Daemoncraft can say that Nirvana is overrated, their songs are really deep, and Kurt Cobain is much more of a genius than he is given credit for. Second, I don't agree with the selection of The Who at all. They may not have been the most original band of their time, but it is hard to say that they are overrated, Bands that play stuff like Limp Bizkit, and people like Sheryl Crow who butcher good songs (Sweet Child of Mine) should bee much more overrated that The Who

Big N
Randy May, you are INSANE! Can you seriously say taht Eric Clapton is overrated?? You might want too look back on his days as a yardbird or as a member of Cream, he practically invented rock guitar. I'm sure most guitarists today have probably been influencded by Clapton. I guess you have never listened to a Cream cd, or else there is no way you would say that Clapton is overrated

The Opposer
What people tend to forget is that new and 'unoriginal' doesnt necessarily mean better. That's a definate trait of all artists that are overrated. New does NOT mean better

Brian Welch
I hate Iced Earth, they are so lame and unoriginal, they blow horribly!!

Katie
this is the first thing I saw on this sight, and I'll be returning for years to come. the voice of reason!

Rich
hey metal militia, you're right about one thing, Iced Earth is pretty damn good, i play them on my metal show all the time on my radio staion, stay cool man.

Wanker
I think Beethoven is overrated, his music blows and he cant play the guitar.

anti-diva
Tori Amos, or shall I say torn anus??? Talk about an unoriginal person, trying to copy off kate bush except tori is no where as good. and tori's a huge drama queen. I mean, i'd rather listen to celine dion than her. and i can't stand how she has some fake accent when she sings live. she's a drama queen! i think she has subliminal messages in her songs cuz the people who listen to her become so majorly obsessed with her, it's not even funny. and all of her fans get so upset and personally offended if you say that you're not the hugest tori fan in the world. and that picture of her breast-feeding that pig is sooooooooo nasty!!!!! everyone, stop supporting artists who are into beastiality!!!!!

cpt. wang
i fu make a most underated bands snot better be #1

skid69
I agree with a lot of those but you forgot about limp Bizkit, and all those boy bands who just appears out of no where wth a hit and then just won't go away after they are already dead!

Tony
Deamoncraft - The Beatles ? are you nuts with out them music since then would not exist as we know it. they may not have influenced your fav bands directly but I'm sure they influences their influences. I would add Elvis to this list, but he too made tremendous influence in rock.

Daemoncraft
You could have picked 5 better overrated artists.. Hootie and the Blowfish aren't even respected anymore, and at least they play their own instruments. The Who weren't bad, and I don't think they were overrated at all, considering they inspired other great bands. As for the Divas, I agree. Well, that's the end of my opinion. I would have selected Nirvana, Madonna, The Beatles, and some others, but I'm too lazy to think of them now.

Mark
My vote is for any "artist" who simply sings songs written by someone else and doesn't otherwise contribute to the music by playing an instrument, yet steals all the credit by slapping his or her name (and no one else's) on the record cover, which somehow in this screwed-up world we live in leads to critical acclaim. There are too many people that fit into this category to list here.

Simon
Blegh, who did he influence? the guy is nothing special, so many more bands out there deserver recognition, and people call this guy the boss why?

blegh
springsteen is one of the most influential artists of all time. He is hardly overrated. Shows what you know. A$$F**k.

Ennui
I think you for the so-called "boy bands" and the Rolling Stones. But otherwise, YES!

Metal Militia
I would DEFINATELY have to say the most overrated band of ALL time is Limp Bizkit, second place are their buddies in Korn. On the other side, however, the most UNDERRATED band (as of right now) is a band called Iced Earth. You want metal? Check them out

Lucifer
Yep...I shore did.

weirdo
I think you must mention those stupid boys bands...they're just too bad to be true!!!!!!!!

Amused
Lucifer the Red Neck must have missed it when his real "rock" band Metallica was still alive and kicking and got on TRL plenty of times

Baphomet
I think you forgot Korn, Manson, Limp, lol, trendy fools

Randy May
Yeah, I'm no fan of Springsteen either, but at least I think he's genuine, albeit a genuine wipe. My most overrated artist is Eric Clapton. That guy was uninteresting thirty years ago, now he's just a cranky, stupid, pompous, phony, sanctimonious, unlistenable old prostitute.

sidetrack
I know too many people with too many Jimmy Buffet CD's. It's frightning.

DreWmaN
I second the TRL thing...which boy band will be the NKOTB of the Millenium? will it be the Backdoor Boys, N Sync or 98 Degrees?

Tracy
Right on! someone who agrees that Bruce is the worst.

Lucifer
You forgot anybody who gets voted on TRL.
