Mesellalottica
antiMUSIC report: Despite some backlash from fans expecting a return to form, Metallica can be very happy with sales of their latest album "St. Anger". The disc sold over 2 million copies in the U.S. and 5 million copies worldwide.

But the band really banked it in this year with re-mastered versions of their previous albums which were released earlier this year. When the U.S. sales numbers were crunched, Metallica sold an addition six million copies of their previous releases. This bumped their overall sales numbers considerably.

U.S. Sales only (based on certifications)

Black Album - 14 Million
And Justice For All - 8 Million
Master of Puppets - 6 Million
Ride the Lightening - 5 million

Worldwide the band has sold a staggering 90 million albums. So what are they so angry about?

Jail Stripes for Jack White?
AP Reports: White Stripes lead singer Jack White was charged Monday with aggravated assault after a fight with the lead singer of another band.

White went to a police precinct early Sunday morning and gave a statement saying he struck Von Bondies lead singer Jason Stollsteimer in self-defense.

The Dec. 13 fight between White and Stollsteimer began shortly before midnight at the Majestic Theatre Center, where both men were in the audience for another concert.

Stollsteimer, 25, told police that White had punched him seven times in the face. Police said Stollsteimer's right eye was bruised and swollen and he was bleeding from his nose. He was taken to Detroit Receiving Hospital, where he was treated and released.

White, 28, faces anywhere from no jail time to a maximum of one year in prison if convicted.

White Stripes spokeswoman Chloe Walsh declined to comment on the fight or the charges.

Wayne County Prosecutor Mike Duggan said Monday that the two had an ongoing disagreement that began after Stollsteimer criticized White's role in producing the Von Bondies' first album.

"It seems that far too often celebrities think that the law does not apply to them," Duggan said at a Monday news conference.

Bachelor Not Allowed To Rock
MTV reports: Someone's after Bob the Bachelor's money, and no, it's not Estella.

Bob Guiney, the fourth-season star of ABC's "The Bachelor," has been sued by the program's producers for promoting his album, 3 Sides. The breach-of-contract suit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court Friday, also names Wind-Up Records.

And Syndicated Productions Inc., a division of Telepictures, claims Guiney violated the exclusivity clause embedded in his contract by promoting another product without the company's approval. ASP wants Guiney to halt all forms of promotion for 3 Sides, which came out November 25, and its single, "Girlfriend." It also seeks unspecified monetary damages. According to the lawsuit, Guiney had asked for permission to promote his LP and was denied.

Every candidate on "The Bachelor" or its sister program, "The Bachelorette," has the same exclusivity clause in their contract.

ASP representatives could not be reached for comment, and a Wind-Up Records spokesperson said company policy prohibits the public discussion of pending litigation. .Click Here for the Full Story

Big Sell Out
The Age reports: The first Sydney date for the Big Day Out on Friday January 23 has completely sold out.

Event organizers said it was the earliest sell-out in the event's history.

However, Sydneysiders have another chance this year, with a second date the following day on January 24.

Event producer Ken West announced the second Sydney show earlier this month, citing unprecedented demand.

"Even though it seems like a big call to stage a second show in Sydney it was ultimately the only logical step," he said in a media release.

The Big Day Out line-up for 2004 features Metallica, The Strokes, The Flaming Lips, The Mars Volta, The Dandy Warhols, Aphex Twin, Basement Jaxx, Black Eyed Peas, Peaches, Luke Vibert, The Hoodoo Gurus, Something For Kate, Trey, Downsyde, Gerling, Jet, The Butterfly Effect, Magic Dirt, The Datsuns, Muse, Kings Of Leon, The Darkness, Felix Da Housecat, Audio Bullys, David Holmes, Lostprophets, Thursday, Poison The Well, DJ Afrika Bambaataa, Salmonella Dub, Sonicanimation, The Sleepy  Jackson, King Kapisi, P-Money and Scribe, Friendly, Skulker, PNAU, 1200 Techniques, Peewee Ferris, Blood Duster and yes Kamahl.

Jimmy Eat Producer
Aversion reports: Jimmy Eat World has parted ways with the producer in charge of its past two records.

The split from the man at the controls, Mark Trombino, for the band's 2001 self-titled breakout album sounds amicable -- the band even hopes to work with him in the future -- although the act is now hunting for a new producer for its next effort.

"For the remainder of this record Mark will not be working with us," reported bassist Zach Lind on the band's message board. "As a band, we are still working on the record and writing songs in order to do more recording in the new year. We are also taking this time to see what's out there in the way of other producers. We love Mark and are very appreciative of the time he has spent with us over the years. We still wish to work with him again, but for this project we are just moving on to a new direction in terms of who we choose to work with." .-Click Here for the Full Story

Zakk Wylde Goes Soft?
From Blabbermouth: BLACK LABEL SOCIETY guitarist/vocalist Zakk Wylde has told Guitar World magazine that the group's upcoming CD, "Hangover Music, Vol. 1", will feature "mainly piano and acoustic guitar. But of course there will be some electric stuff and some screaming solos in there too."

The album, which is currently being recorded at a California studio, will follow in the tradition GUNS N' ROSES' "Lies" EP and ALICE IN CHAINS' "Jar of Flies". "When you go out raising hell, you can listen to 'The Blessed Hellride', and when you wake up the next day feeling like s***, you can listen to 'Hangover Music'," Zakk explained.

"Hangover Music, Vol. 1" is due in March 2004 through Spitfire Records.

Nazi Rocker Jailed
Reuters Reports: A German court Monday found members of a neo-Nazi rock group guilty of forming a criminal association in the first case of its kind in the country.

The 38-year-old lead singer of the band Landser was sentenced to three years and four months in prison, while two other members received suspended sentences of 21 and 22 months after a trial lasting six months. The band had "massively disrupted society's cohesiveness" with its song lyrics inciting racial hatred, the court ruled.

Prosecutions have often been brought against individuals under laws banning Nazi propaganda and promotion of racial hatred, but this is the first time a collective prosecution of this kind has been brought against a musical group.. Click Here for the Full Story

All Wight
Billboard reports: The Who, David Bowie and Stereophonics are confirmed to headline the 2004 edition of the U.K.'s Isle of Wight Festival.

Stereophonics will play June 11, followed by the Who on June 12 and Bowie on June 13. Ticket information can be found on the event's official Web site (http://www.isleofwightfestival.com).

The Who are no strangers to the Isle, having played a 1970 concert there that was immortalized on the CD/home video "Live at the Isle of Wight." It is not known if the group -- which now features sole surviving members Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey  -- has further summer gigs on the horizon, but the act will play a previously announced March 29 concert at London's Royal Albert Hall. .-Click Here for the Full Story

Warren Zevon DVD
The story of Warren Zevon's last album will expand when it hits DVD in March.

A VH1 special about the making of "The Wind" that aired in August will be released by Artemis Records on DVD with extra footage, Jordan Zevon, Warren Zevon's son, told The Associated Press on Monday.

"They're all moments that are uncut," said Zevon, executive producer of the album. "They're not edits-together for the sake of time and go from bit to bit, they're actually just little moments in the making of the record."

Zevon said the DVD will include full interviews with musicians such as Bruce Springsteen that show his father's true personality.

"You got some extra questions and just got to know his sense of humor," he said. - Click Here for the full story

Elvis Still The King
AP Reports: Elvis Presley is the all-time singles king in Britain, nearly a half-century after he first crashed into the pop chart here, according to a new list published Monday.

Presley has appeared on 1,193 of the weekly charts since 1952, when British Hit Singles, a book published by Guinness World Records, began keeping records.

At No. 2 is Cliff Richard with 1,152 weeks in the charts, followed by The Shadows at 771 weeks.

The singles chart in Britain has varied in length over the years.

When Presley appeared for the first time in 1956 with "Heartbreak Hotel," the British chart listed 30 records. In 1978, the year after Presley died, the chart stabilized at its present length of the top 75 singles. -Click Here for the Full Story

X's Birthday
We have a little bit of music as our Christmas gift to you in the form of what may be considered by some an "anti-Christmas" song. There is actually a lot of truth found in the lyrics. The song is by our good friend Don Van Develde (aka Donnie Vie), frontman of Enuff Z'nuff.

Background of the song: This demo was recently uncovered by a friend of Donnie's. This one dates back to before EZN. We don't have an exact date but early to mid 80's would be about right. It's never been commercially released and it is uncertain how many copies may exist out there (can't be too many, it's not up on eBay). If you like it and would like an MP3 of the tune, Donnie is offering an exclusive download right now to members of his online club at http://www.Donnievie.com.  But Don has been kind "enuff" to allow us to offer an exclusive real audio version so you can check it out for free!

Bye Bye Holiday (demo)
By Don Van Develde
Real Audio

Lyrics:

Next year will be different / But for now this one's a drag
Cuz the money doesn't come / I've always made it through it
And I'll say it wasn't bad / But what's the point, there's none

Seems no one knows what they're for / But still look forward to more
Empty pockets everywhere / And I can't wait to say / Bye Bye Holiday

It's good to see the people / Who I love and come first / Well they come first once a year
The kids destroy the gift wraps / And our mother goes to church / Guess mom still has some fear

And I hope they like what I bought / But it's not much dough but some thought
People rush around in fear / And I can't wait to say / Bye Bye Holiday

All the signs say X-mas / So is this when X was born / The X don't mean a thing
The caroler's drive you crazy / With their hands out at my door / And most of 'em don't sing

Yeah I might sound hard on myself / But I'm just like everyone else
Pine tree needles everywhere / And I can't wait to say / Bye Bye Holiday

Rushing out to Walgreens / For a gift for Uncle Joe / While he wasn't here last year
Toys and cloths, appliances / And heads are hanging low / As Joe unwraps more beer
My car don't start, And it's cold as hell / My girl's with somebody else
Loads of fruitcake everywhere / And I can't wait to say / Bye Bye Holiday
Empty pockets everywhere / And I can't wait to say / Bye Bye Holiday
