Unwritten Law VS Interscope
punkbands reports: Unwritten Law writes this interesting story in their latest blog: Don't be confused - one of our old record companies (Interscope) knew we were putting out The Hit List so this week they rushed out a compilation of old songs and called it "20th Century Masters-The Millennium Collection." Huh? Pretty sketchy.

The Hit List, is coming out on December 26th and its the Unwritten Law authorized "best of" album. We've been in the studio most of the year re-recording all of the old songs so that they are new again. We've delayed this album a couple of times already 'cos we just wanted to get it right.[see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

The Girls of Boyskout
PR reports: Boyskout is actually a girl group. However, such juxtaposition isn't unusual for the San Francisco quartet. Its synth-laced post-punk pits the dark-tinted early-80s bounce of The Cure up against 90's-era Wedding Present & Heavenly indie-pop fetishism. And, while its forthcoming sophomore album Another Life was produced by of-the-now engineers David Schiffman (Nine Inch Nails, Johnny Cash, Red Hot Chili Peppers) and Donny Newenhouse (Film School, The Coachwhips) it sounds both timeless and futuristic, dark and danceable. This fall, Boyskout takes to the road yet again in support of Another Life.

Boyskout On Tour:
11/01 Eugene, OR Wow Hall
11/02 Salem, OR The Sip
11/04 Bend, OR The Grove

Mr Big Instructor
PR reports: The Musicians Institute (MI) is extremely proud to announce the return of GIT alumnus Paul Gilbert. During the month of October, Paul will be teaching special private lessons for GIT students, giving them a chance to jam and gain up-close instruction from one of the most influential guitarists in the world of shred. Paul's most recent appearance at MI was the release party for his new instrumental CD, Get Out of My Yard.

Paul is widely considered to be one of the finest rock guitarists of his generation. Since graduating from GIT, his highly successful career has included CDs and numerous tours with Racer X and Mr.Big as well as solo recordings and best-selling guitar instruction videos. MI Japan recognized Paul for his exceptional popularity in that country by bestowing the title of "Honorary Dean". Save The Album
PR reports: Insound.com, the premier online retailer for independent music, has launched a campaign to "Save The Album." The campaign is designed to help celebrate a format that has endured recent threats at the hands of single track sales and subscription offers. Noted and respected indie artists The Decemberists, Bloc Party, The Mountain Goats, Devendra Banhart, Pretty Girls Make Graves, The Walkmen, and Lou Barlow have recorded short video pieces celebrating their favorite albums. The "mission" and the videos can be seen at the full story link.

In support of the campaign, Insound.com, which had until now exclusively sold albums on CD and vinyl, will also be launching a new album-only, MP3-only digital store this week. All music will be available exclusively in the format in which it was designed to be released. Individual tracks will not be available for purchase. Additionally, the MP3 format will also allow consumers to easily move the music to any portable device they choose. "While the sale of individual tracks certainly makes sense technologically for pop music, it is fully not in the best interest of the independent music community. It hurts not only artists, but also labels, retailers, and distributors," said Matt Wishnow, President of Insound.

Blackmore Xmas
Kayos reports: Ritchie Blackmore has been known worldwide for his guitar shredding in Deep Purple and Rainbow. He has also shown hints of his penchant for medieval music in both of those bands. That 18th and 19th Century love, though, has only truly come to the fore within the acoustic context of his "renaissance rock" project, Blackmore's Night. The seven-piece band, featuring the airy vocals of his lovely wife, Candice Night, who has been compared to Stevie Nicks and Karen Carpenter, has been an ongoing passion of the guitarist's since 1997. On November 24th, Locomotive Records will release a very special holiday album, Winter Carols.[see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Duncan Sheik anthology
Special Ops reports: Rhino Entertainment will release the Duncan Sheik anthology Brighter/Later on October 24. Over the course of four outstanding CDs released between 1996 and 2002, Duncan Sheik established himself as one of the best singer-songwriters working today. Rhino offers a comprehensive overview of the early years of his career with Brighter/Later: A Duncan Sheik Anthology, a two-CD set that showcases the emotional highs and lows of Sheik's songs. The compilation will be available October 24 at all retail outlets and at www.rhino.com.

Its name a play on and tribute to singer-songwriter Nick Drake's second album, Brighter/Later surveys Sheik's three Atlantic Records CDs (Duncan Sheik, Humming, and Daylight) as well as the Nonesuch release Phantom Moon. Duncan Sheik says of the set's concept: "I wanted to have these two CDs where you would kind of stay in a particular mood and wouldn't be sent back and forth-where, as you listen to each CD, you could get into one headspace and stay there for a while." He selected the track list based on that idea. Disc One, "Brighter," showcases Sheik's more energetic pop-oriented songs, while Disc Two, "Later," highlights his more contemplative compositions. Joelle CD
PR reports: The way she's belted out her fiery original songs opening for Boney M, Canadian Country Artist Adam Gregory and legendary Chicago singer/keyboardist Bill Champlin these past few years, it's hard to believe that Joelle still considers herself a shy person at heart.

Fortunately for fans of edgy pop/rock in the U.S. and her native Canada alike, the Calgary bred and based singer/songwriter is no longer "Tongue Tied"-the title of the fiery opening track from Pillar of Stone, her upcoming disc on Gotcha Records, due to drop to retail and digital download outlets in early 2007.[see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Another Musical Bonham
Noble PR reports: Deborah Bonham and her band were the special guests on Paul Rodgers UK Tour for the first six dates. On her last night, before a sold out crowd in Nottingham, Rodgers invited Deborah up to sing "Can't Get Enough". He chose this song because it is the first song that Deborah remembers hearing Paul sing when she was just 12.

"Deborah has the same sweetness of spirit that her brother John possessed. Plus, "she's a fantastic singer who, like her brother, has great rhythm," said Paul Rodgers. Not many people know that John Bonham was a good singer and sang backing vocals on a number of Led Zeppelin's songs.- Click Here for the Full Story
