Chat About Germs
PR reports: Stickam.com is hosting a live chat with stars of the film 'What We Do is Secret' about the punk band The Germs, today Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at 4:00pm PT.

The film chronicles the life of The Germs' frontman, Darby Crash. Crash's chaos on stage gained The Germs notoriety as they burned through the LA punk scene, but the band soon befell tragedy when Darby took his own life in 1980 at the age of 22.

Not only will lead actors Shane West (ER), Bijou Phillips (Almost Famous) and Noah Segan (Brick) be on hand, but also Don Bolles and Lorna Doom of The Germs will discuss how the film reflects their experiences in the band during a live question and answer session. Ill Bill Goes Soph
PR reports: The highly anticipated second solo album from Brooklyn's independent hip-hop kingpin Ill Bill is finally scheduled for release on the Uncle Howie/Fat Beats label [before you email us asking, they did not bother to include the actual release date in the announcement]. The former Non Phixion standout and current La Coka Nostra riot-starter has surgically crafted the very album the hip-hop world has been missing and craving for far too long.

Whether holding it down alongside iconic MCs such as Raekwon the Chef and B-Real, or with their spiritual disciples Immortal Technique, Vinnie Paz and Necro, or masterminding stellar collaborations with the likes of the legendary Bad Brains and heavy metal thrashers Killswitch Engage, Bill confidently swaggers the line between genres with fellow visionaries DJ Premier, DJ Muggs, T-Ray, DJ Lethal and others behind the boards. Also, for the first time, a bulk of the production has been propelled by Bill himself.

Along with the exactly one hour long audio disc, comes a DVD of ILL BILL annihilating punk rock mecca CBGB, live and direct from the same stage once immortalized by the likes of The Ramones, Blondie, The New York Dolls and so many others. Additionally, the artwork for The Hour of Reprisal has been created by none other than Larry Carroll; the man behind numerous controversial album covers for the mighty Slayer, including their classic Reign In Blood.

Former President of Atlantic Records Remembers Jerry Wexler
Submitted reports: Jerry Greenberg former President of Atlantic Records speaks about his Days With Jerry Wexler. "I joined Atlantic Records in 1967 as Jerry Wexler's assistant. All I can say is if you wanted to become a doctor you went to Yale, a lawyer to Harvard, the Armed Services the Marines and in the record business, join Atlantic Records.

"Working with Jerry was an incredible experience because he was truly an all around record man. During those days he would call radio stations to promote his records. He would talk to music publishers about finding songs for his artists. He would call the distribution centers to check on sales. He would still have time to do what he loved the most, produce records.

"Jerry had a fabulous right hand and left hand in the studio with Tom Dowd as his engineer and Arif Mardin as his musical arranger. However, Jerry was the producer. I remember spending months with Jerry to find songs for one of my favorite albums, Dusty in Memphis. Jerry loved working with Dusty Springfield. It was actually Dusty who told Jerry about John Paul Jones and Jimmy Page forming a new band, which Jerry signed, called Led Zeppelin.

Wintersleep Touring This Fall
PR reports: On the heels of an incredible run of US dates with Wolf Parade, Halifax band Wintersleep is traversing the country yet again.

This time, they'll be joining Portugal the Man and Earl Greyhound. One might think that the band would need a rest considering that the majority of its gear (about $10,000 worth) was stolen from its van in Baton Rouge, LA about two weeks ago...

But, the resilient five-piece is showing no signs of slowing down as its latest full-length effort Welcome To The Night Sky is picking up some major steam here in the US leading up to its October 14th release. - more on this story

Glasgow Grin To Kill Pedophiles On New CD
PR reports: Glasgow Grin has signed with Year of the Sun Records for the release of their upcoming debut album "Saints of the Greatest Sin". Glasgow Grin's debut is expected to surface in October 2008 and was recorded at Frozen Solid Studios with producer Matt Connell (Ex-Exhumed, ---- the Facts) and mixed by Jamie King (Between The Buried And Me).

"We're excited to be a part of the Year of the Sun family again. They've grown in leaps and bounds since we first signed Dear Black Diary to the label a few years back," commented Glasgow Grin frontman Jordan Shortt. "When Glasgow Grin was created, it was our goal to avoid all of the mistakes that we made while in Dear Black Diary. Essentially, DBD was a huge learning experience that allowed us to mature and grow. Glasgow Grin is a fresh start for us and with our debut full length we feel we've put together an extremely focused project that we feel reflects our growth as musicians. It was very important to us that we come out of our corner swinging this round, and "Saints of the Greatest Sin" packs a powerful punch".

Glasgow Grin has also revealed that "Saints of the Greatest Sin" will be a concept record based around a serial killer who murders pedophiles. The album artwork will be based around the concept with the liner notes containing an eight page short story.

Netherfriends EP
PR reports: Shortly after wrapping up their tour, Netherfriends are prepping for their upcoming EP release of "feathers and dots", to be released digitally on September 2nd alongside a limited run of less than 200 7" vinyl records.

Emerging from the rooftops of Chicago in 2007, Netherfriends are that bastard-psych-pop-catchy as hell band that you've been searching for. Their debut 7-inch, feathers and dots (Black and Greene Records), fuses heavily layered arrangements with group sing-a-longs, spare pianos, synths, glockenspiels and other hard to place, but familiar sounds. The three-piece psychedelic pop band LBL. Netherfriends features Shawn Rosenblatt (vocals, guitar, piano), Paul Newmann (no not that Paul Newman..drums) and Angie Kang (synth, backup vocals).

Having shared the stage with label-mates Drug Rug, and Bryan Scary & The Shredding Tears, not to mention other great acts like We Are Wolves, Division Day, and A-Sides, Netherfriends' live show is a percussive explosion of delightful and raw melodies.

Joshua Radin Simple Times
PR reports: Joshua Radin's Simple Times, due out on September 30th, will be the premiere release from mom & pop, Q Prime's new independent label. The album is the follow-up to Radin's acclaimed full-length debut, 2006's We Were Here.

Ohio-native Radin worked with producer Rob Schnapf (Beck, Elliott Smith) on Simple Times to create a sound that stays true to the integrity of his past work, but adds percussion and other instrumental elements to give the new music an edgier kick. The twist on Radin's trademark "whisper rock" is particularly apparent on the uncharacteristically up-tempo "I'd Rather Be With You," the album's first single.

Patty Griffin adds her pure vocal accompaniment to "You've Got Growing Up To Do," a track Radin notes as one of his most personal on the CD. Rising star Meiko joins him on the uplifting and charming "Sky." - more on this story

Disguised As Umbrellas, We Slept
PR reports: Her sound has been dubbed experimental, psychedelic, beautiful and jazzy; it's difficult for a single adjective to describe the music of Monika H. She continues to widen the scope further with her sophomore release, Disguised As Umbrellas, We Slept, out October 28th.

"Starting with the album title," states Monika H. (Monika Heidemann), "A lot of the music and lyrics start with dreams I have that are interesting to interpret and then develop." The cryptic title displays the mystery of a collection of tracks characterized as dreamy, psychedelic avant-rock with jazz fringes.

Monika H.'s critically acclaimed 2006 indie debut Bright was chosen one of the Top Ten Albums of the Year by the Boston Phoenix and earned her praise from many corners of the indie music community, but she has long preferred to think compositionally in forms and shapes rather than styles. She's always evolving, digging deeper into her musical upbringing that included folk and classical music. - more on this story

. Earshot - The Silver Lining
The Silver Lining picks up right where Earshot left off. They are an alternative rock/metal band with a melodic nu/metal sound. From the beginning Earshot was compared to Tool mainly because Wil Martins vocals sound a lot like Mr. Keenans. (3.5 stars) - Read the full Earshot - The Silver Lining review

. Sharon Little - Perfect Time For A Breakdown
Imagine having your life long dream dangled in front of your face... but if you accept it, it will essentially be making a deal with the devil. . Bassinvaders - Hellbassbeaters
Trying new ideas can sometimes result in golden rewards or an embarrassing episode like sh*tting your pants in public, which probably explains why an overwhelming chunk of metal bands will never dare what Markus Grosskopf's Bassinvaders have attempted - Read the full Bassinvaders - Hellbassbeaters review
